  1. Still enjoying my Guzzi also, but recently sold its Japanese garage mate (Kawasaki Z1000) and am in the process of buying a new Speed Triple 1050. My first motorcycle was an old Bonneville, and the Triumph marque has always lifted my emotions since. I'd certainly vote Triumph over Suzuki, as I believe it to be more of a keeper.

    Duck, Duck or Goose!

What Jaap said about the Speed Triple. I just sold one of my bikes (not the Guzzi) and for it's replacement I'm looking at the Ducati Multistrada 1000, Aprilia Tuono and the new 1050 Speed Triple. The 1050 will, in all likelihood, be my new bike, as the maintenance on the MTS is too frequent and too much money, and the parts availability on the Tuono will be as unobtanium as the Guzzi, and I don't need two bikes like that (although both are very reliable and don't seem to require much). Anyway, if you haven't ridden the Sport or any of the others, make sure you do prior to buying.

    Tank Bags

Marsee 19 liter tank bag - reasonably compact, and also expandable. Great quality.
  4. It may have been me. I was out riding my red/gray LeMans on Saturday, and I live in Pasadena. It certainly would look wine-colored from the front or the back.
  5. How did you like the Metzlers? I just ordered a pair yesterday and will put them on next week. Haven't tried those before.

    RKA Luggage - pics

They look very nice, and don't appear to stick out nearly as far as the Tekno bags I used to have.
  7. More kudos from here, as Michelle was really helpful in getting my engine cases replaced under warranty due to the bubbling paint. She seems to be the one good thing about MGNA.
  8. That's how I got my original filter out prior to changing over to Amsoil filters and having the correct filter wrench for those. Whatever works, eh?
  9. I found it was the connectors in the relay box. Just try to shove them on real tight and that may solve your problem.
  10. Sorry, but after reading this post, I immediately went to the DMV and got a personalized license plate that reads, "I'm a complete wanker". So now that plate is no longer available to anyone in California
  11. Hard to tell from the picture, but those cases look similar to the replacement cases I got on my LeMans. They're not the wrinkle finish, but they're also not the smooth finish I've seen on other models.
  12. I have to agree with you (although any whining may be misplaced). You've done your bike up beautifully. If my bike were a naked instead of a LeMans, I'd probably be coming to you for styling advice.
  13. Mine are not TOO badly cracked - even here in sunny SoCal, although my bikes are in the garage when not being used. I did have one of the boots disconnect slightly some time back, though, and the bike ran like shite, as you can imagine. So having a spare pair around is probably a great idea, but I too would be very interested in knowing a proper automotive replacement part as $70 for a pair of rubber boots seems a bit excessive to me. Someone's making Way too much money
  14. I bought this bike new and expect my motorcycles to stay as close to new as possible within reason, excepting anything I might do to them either intentionally or not. The bubbling paint on the cases irritated me to no end, and there was no way I could let this otherwise beautiful bike look like that as long as I had other options, so I had the cases replaced under warranty. The dealer had my bike for a month, and fortunately I have a second bike to ride so I didn't miss it too much. The cases now look the way they're supposed to, and I (personally) can't imagine accepting any substitute. But that's just me.
  15. I feel your pain, JimBob. I moved back to the States from Alberta 10 years ago, and haven't looked back.
  16. I too had the same problem last year, with the bike cutting out between 5-6000 rpm, and it turned out to be a loose connector to the fuel pump relay. As Carl suggests, pull the harness below the relays and check the connectors carefully.
  17. Sorry to hear of your misfortune, Gil. A very reputable Guzzi mechanic once disconnected my sidestand switch in order to prevent a possible future starting problem, and I immediately had him reconnect it. I can be as absentminded as the next old guy, and didn't want to take the chance of a similar mishap.
  18. I'm with Richard on this one. Along with my LeMans, I have a Kawasaki Z1000 in my garage. They really are apples and oranges, and I really enjoy having the choice whenever I go riding. A Japanese sport bike (or so-called Hooligan bike in the case of my Z) feels more nimble and certainly quicker than does the Guzzi, and I appreciate it for that. But when I'm riding the Guzzi, it's long legs, thoaty sound and great looks make up for less turning quickness and relative lack of horsepower. I think the RC51 is a great garage-mate for the Guzzi for the same reasons. I personally always enjoyed having one character-laden Italian motorcycle in my garage along with a Japanese rice rocket just for the diversity. BTW, Enzo, I think your Guzzi looks bitchin'.
  19. I agree with this method, as my pipes were getting stained/discolored and I used the Simichrome and applied with a Scotchbrite pad and the pipes kept the satin finish and took all the ugly stuff off (I'm sure this added at least $500 to the value of my bike )
  20. Two friends of mine with Scuras encountered the same problem. The question I have is this: If the fuzzy cases have been exchanged, does that significantly reduce the chances of this problem ever occurring?
  21. From the time I filed the claim until the time the work was completed, the process took just a touch over one year. I had the work done locally in the L.A. area, and was very satisfied with the result. The bike seems better sorted than when it was put together in Italy.
  22. Shortly after I purchased my '02 LeMans I noticed that one of the cans was turning purple, so I told the dealer and he got me new ones under warranty. I took them off a little while later to install my Mistrals, so now my perfectly matched stock cans sit on a shelf in the garage.
  23. I too was going to start this as a new topic when I spotted this thread. Truely, for those of you who didn't see this display, it was (or at least should have been) embarassing for Moto Guzzi. Rather than have a few dirty bikes on display, they should have just foregone the whole deal and had no display at all. As Droydx stated, not only were the display bikes shabby, but the representatives really looked as if they couldn't be bothered with questions or discussion. Now maybe that wasn't actually the case, but it certainly appeared that way to me and various friends who visited the booth. One of my buddies commented that the only display that was marginally worse was that of MZ; but at least their bikes were clean.

    2002 LeMans

This bike is in wonderful condition with only 9xxx miles. I bought it new, had it serviced at regular intervals, and it comes with Mistral canisters, PC III, workshop manual, and Moto Guzzi tank bag from Marsee. The engine cases were replaced under warranty several months ago. Located in the Los Angeles area. Pictures available on request. $7200 firm.

    Corban Seat !

I saw one of the Corbin 3-wheelers on the road for the first time last week. Very bizarre looking, but it did attract a lot of attention, which, for the L.A. area, is really saying something.
