Very good. Paul Thede's method is also used in that Sport Rider process. I think the basics are pretty straightforward, but they're lost in the confusing and contradictory detail in this thread. As a starting point, my static sag front and rear, as best as I can measure it, is 30mm both front and rear. That is in the right ballpark according to the Thede recommendations... but did I read in this thread that it's not regarded as correct for the Guzzi, at least for the V.11, for some reason?

Nice that we're doing our bit. You do know that 2008 is European Year of Intercultural Dialogue?

You got it working? Fantastic! Great news, I hope the road testing confirms that the job is done. (Almost) never give up and there's usually an answer to be prised out, somehow, somewhere. (Though sometimes you do just have to buy a new bike.)

I am looking for clear, straightforward and accurate information on setting-up front and rear suspension. I can't remember where I found the sources of info when I set-up the V.11 I've done basic stuff on the Griso but I want to go through it methodically, according to recognised procedures. Surely someone can write a simple description of the process and it can be posted in the 'How To' or the 'FAQ' Forums? This is a key topic of interest for everyone and I'm surprised to see that it's not easily found here. On a search, this thread was the main one that I found. Maybe I've missed something else that is here. I would have thought there's a case for the topic being a 'sticky'? If there already is a useful, comprehensive thread here, what about a Mod making it a sticky? What I found this time, were the Sport Rider articles, also mentioned in this thread. Are there other articles that people can recommend? Maybe the Sport Rider stuff is as good as anything else. What say you? I should have made better notes, last time.

Hmmm. Seems easy enough. So, you see where you are going wrong, Antonio?

Hoots mon, I ken aboot Greyfriars Bobby, on the westie coastie o' Scootlan'. PS Jaap looked at a satellite photo o' Scawtlan' – and discovered that it looks like a big plate of mushy peas! What sort of country is that anyway! Yees need to get the place tidied up and shipshape. Don't ye know there are touristic foreign visitors coming for a look around soon?

Bike of the month, my foot! Big B is clearly going for Rider Of The Month (or Boy Of The Month). Or does anyone else fancy that they can do better? edit: oh, I see that FC was also inspired by this subject.

Hells Angle's? They probably meant Bungle.

It's fantastic to have the sunshine at last. It's due to turn a bit at the weekend but fingers crossed that it's generally going to be sunny and warm for the next week or two.

I'm watching Outlaw Bikers on tv at the moment, about Arizona Angels and undercover infiltration operation. There are people called Bob. One is called Bad Bob. There's a Mr Big too. Don't know if he's Bob Big or Big Bob. I'm thinking I could try out a new name: BelfastBob. Then maybe I'll not get no disrespect no more.

! Re 'Anybody taken this road?' thread http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?...st&p=142669 I knew it! I was right – MacGuzzi did filch it. Thieving haggis muncher. Oh well, the Americans have got plenty more roads. Maybe they'll let the Scotties keep this one.
-
I didn't take it. I've nowhere to put something like that. My guess would be, a Scotsman. They don't like paying for their own roads so the country is all mountains and heathery bog. We'll be up that way next week so I'll keep an eye out and ask MacGuzzi some probing questions. PS If you want it back, I'm not paying the postage.

I was hoping that no-one would ask that. Now I feel obliged to do it. However there are some good modeling diagrams on the web. When I find them again I'll post a link. I think that Paul M. originally posted them? That may save my bacon, er, goose. Luhbo's pic is Vee Dub pot I think. BTW why are folk perturbed by what they're calling the 'offset'? Surely the width of the piece just allows for movement of the rocker on its shaft? It would have been a bit silly to make it exactly the same diameter as the valve stem???? -
Tonight, a hare, er... hared across the road in front of me. A couple of miles on, a cat did the same. I didn't mind the hare. At least if I'd hit it, it would have made a very fine supper. It was good to see the wild beast. I haven't seen one for a long time In fact, the last time that I saw a hare, it was in my stew pot.

MG 4V 6 cylinders
belfastguzzi replied to Anthro's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
I think that you are mistaken about 6 cylinders. I'm sure that this is Guzzi's new triple. -
Doesn't sound like a broken spring. Have you checked all the gear-shift linkage? Anything come loose? Any nuts fallen off?

any bit in particular? -
That could have been serious Gary. Animals, particularly dogs, running through hedges is one of those big scary worries out on country roads. It happens suddenly, without warning. Check your engine casing. When I got similar damage, the timing chest cracked as well, resulting in oil leak. Re Ducati parts: people usually report here that they're cheaper than the Guzzi equivalent or same part. You going to Scotland meet at Ken Bridge?

NorthWest200 road race 2008
belfastguzzi replied to belfastguzzi's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
Terrible news: and it wasn't a newcomer, inexperienced rider. It was 29 year-old Martin Finnegan, a top, experienced and exciting rider. He had earlier won the open race. He died in the accident at Marlacoo Corner during the Supersport 600 race. He was from Lusk in Co Dublin. Edit: Riders behind saw smoke burst from the back of the bike. There has been speculation that he had no brakes. Went straight up the roadside bank. -
NorthWest200 road race 2008
belfastguzzi replied to belfastguzzi's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
The trouble with road races is that people get hurt and people get killed. A racer died today and 3 spectators were injured This is the second year in a row that Tandragee has been cut short. Last year John Donnan was killed as he tried to avoid another rider who had lost control of his bike I arrived as the classic race was finishing, bought a programme and got a position in a field by the road. Actually, there would be no more racing finished today. In a while, the day's first 'proper race', Supersport 600s, got underway, though the third wave had a long delay because someone went down just after the start and took a few others with him. By the time the leaders were coming back to the start/finish, the race was over. Something else must have happened. At these events, quiet and puzzlement soon becomes worry. After an hour, it was announced that the race day would be abandoned due to a serious accident. I've just seen now that someone was killed. Think it was at one of the bad corners. The Tandragee is one of the last 'real road races', because of the nature of its jumps and high speed corners that need a lot of learning. The likes of the Dunlops, Ryan Farquar, Adrian Archibald, were in this race. I don't know who died in the accident. -
You could claim that it's the new Moto Guzzi 'Classic' model. 'Cos it's so close to what MG are producing, right? Well, even without re-badging, it sure is a gorgeous find.

There are interesting perspectives in this amateur vid of the Tandragee 100, which is on later today. Not a bad wee video -

No sport bike in Guzzi range marketing director says
belfastguzzi replied to 1100sport's topic in 24/7 V11
Yeh the lunge at higher revs caused a when it first took me by surprise. I find it hunts a little when maintaining low revs, up to about 3,500. Not snatchy, but not dead smooth. The surge from low revs is not as aggressive as I might have expected, but I'll test that again this weekend. I think the effect seems a bit soft because it's all pretty easy, there's no big deal about winding on speed and the ride and the noise are civilised. My V.11 puts out a lot more noise ('cos I want it to) when it does (used to do) the same sort of stuff. The other thing is that engine braking is nowhere near as noticeable / effective as I thought it would be. Perhaps that's 'a good thing'. It may be because of that stepper motor effect that's been discussed elsewhere. All in all, very engaging, as a MG twin should be.
