  1. Hi - Did you ever find the paint for the grey tail sections? I also have a Rosso Mandello and due to transport damage will be painting the tank and tail. I secured the red/orange color including the silver basecoat from RS Bike Paint in Great Britain (looks to be very close) but I have yet to find the grey. Also, the RM decals are still available in short supply from a few European sellers. They are not cheap. Best wishes, Mike I haven't gotten around to paint yet. Maybe next year
  2. Well guys thanks for all the advice. I sent the shock out to race tech today. When they get it they'll look it over and call me and make some recommendations and we'll go from there. I'd love to have one of those good Ohlins but I'd have to park the bike the rest of the year to get one of them. I'll let ya'll know what Race-Tech says
  3. What I meant by "between the adjuster rings" should have been between the spring seats, top one being the adjustable ring and the bottom one being the none adjustable seat at the bottom of the shock
  4. Checked my sag this evening and with spring set at 152MM between the adjuster rings I have about 25-26 mm sag. So I think that spring should be pretty close yes? I'm thinking a simple rebuild should do. Maybe some slight revalving. The shaft seal is replaceable isn't it?
  5. Yea I know but could you really tell the difference if you hadn't googled her?
  6. BTW, how do you like the Fiat ? Do you drive in-house like Charlie Sheen ? Love the Fiat. Haven't had this much fun on 4 wheels in over 20 yrs. Not interested in driving it in the house but I did want to bring that Italian model home but the wife said no-no
  7. OK My shock is exactly like yours so it is a Sachs. I will get a friend over this evening to check the sag. A good Penske or Ohlins is completely out of the question as I have three bikes, I'm on Soc sec, this is the bike I use the least, and I work part time just to keep these in shape. The thing that concerns me right now is that in reading some previous posts on this subject there seems to be a problem with availability on seals for this shock. Is that still true or was that a situation from a couple of years ago?
  8. I've been sorting a 01 Rosso Mandello for the last couple months since I brought it. One of the last things I worked on is the rear shock. I found that the PO installed it upside down (spring pre-load adjusters at the bottom) I put it back on right and took it for a test ride and it seemed much more compliant. However when I rode it over to the local cycle shop to get DMV inspection I noticed the shock leaking badly...So it's a white power shock and my options are to send it to Race Tech for a rebuild back to original condition. rebuild it with upgrades or replace it. The problem is that I haven't gotten enough miles on it yet to tell what I want or how good it works at like new stock spec. FYI I'm 200 lb (is the stock spring heavy enough)and my riding on this bike will be mostly weekend canyon carving.
  9. So I'm ready to put my tank back on. Fuel lines are no problem. However there are 2 vent fittings under the tank. I assume I can T them and run them to the ground. I have a hose under the tank that goes to ground but I'm not sure what it's supposed to do. It is the picture enclosed. Last thing is where does the small hose (tank pressure?) go from the regulator
  10. I just took my tank off to put my shock on right as someone previously had installed it upside down. Anyway my stock air filter is pretty dirty so it's time to replace it. I have the factory Ti exhaust and MG off road ecu. I'd really like to go with the pods just to unclutter everything but would consider a K&N w/o box top on my box. Can I get away with either one of these without having to get a PCIII ?
  11. Drats, that's what I thought. My shock is on upside down, backwards, wrong, whatever. So now I have to take the tank off and change it and I don't think the tank is going to come off too easily as I think it's out of shape. I guess I should drain it so it doesn't get further out of shape.
  12. I just went to adjust my rear suspension because it seems very jaring over these back roads. Anyway I'm kinda confused because my owners manual seems to be totally out in left field as far as clicks go. I assume I have a white power suspension (white spring blue adjusters. However in the quote from Buzzard here it says "The knurled ring just above the lower shock eye". My knurled shock adjuster is what I would call the top shock eye, up under the tank and the spring preload is toward the back of the bike. Is that the way it should be or did someone put it on wrong??
  13. I'd love to join you guys but I just got my RM and I haven't adjusted everything to my liking yet. I spent the last couple of years with a weekend in the Marlinton area with Ducati sport touring riders. I love the area and the great roads I already have it on the calender for next year.
  14. So If my tank shows no signs of distortion now it may never go bad. Is that the way it usually works? I'm not an ethanol hater either but I hate half baked attempts at doing things. I think if they want to use ethanol then use a lot of it, say over 50%, sell it for half the price and have 14:1 cr motors to get the proper potential out of it. It's kinda like everybody says you should never run anything but hi-test (sorry, showing my age) Premium or 93 octane gas in a V11. That was fine when it was $.10 a gallon more than 87 but now it's $.40 some places so why not just put the 11:1 pistons in and hopefully get some more gas mileage for that extra money? What do ya think?
  15. This may have been covered and I see some blogs that touch on it like dis figured tanks etc. But talking to a friend tonight who has a couple of late model Ducatis including a Multistrada, he says he uses aproduct made by Sta-bil specifically for ethynol gas for Marine use. Lucas makes a similar product and my friend claims he's never had any tank bulging issues. Has anybody on this list used a similar product? And do they stop or reverse the tank distortion caused by the ethynol? Is there a product out there like this that also acts like an octane booster?
  16. Just sharing some of my pain here... I'd check the swing arm bearings - they seem to start notching after an unfeasibly small number of miles. IMHO: I suspect a design compromise that forces the use of double row angular contact ball bearings rather than taper roller which you can't manage the thrust on in the V11 - any enlightenment from engineers out there? It's the double row bearing thing that causes the grief - they're really wide and almost impossible to remove without application of heat, and even then they're a bugger... this means you'll wreck whatever coating you have. So get the bearings out, sort the hugger screw bushes, then sort the coating. Because I had replaced the swing arm and bearings and also took the pork chops off to paint them, I felt it best to re-set the swing arm pins myself from scratch rather than using depth measurements (as above) from before - not rocket science but not done in a hurry either. Andy H I guess I need a little more info. I have the hugger off and I know how to remove the rear wheel. After that what's the procedure for removing the driveshaft? Andy, If I were to start from scratch on the depth measurements, what am I shooting for? I ask because not knowing the history of the bike I don't know if someone put it together right when/if it was apart before.
  17. I want to remove my swing arm and clean it and repaint it. Anything special I should know about removing it and driveshaft. I searched this forum but couldn't any articles on that. Any particular paint to use that's glossy black that will hold up well?
  18. Howdy! Figured I would introduce myself here. I'll be picking up a 2001 V11 Sport on Friday. This will be the 4th Guzzi that I have owned. I currently have a 2009 V7C and in the past had a 1980 V50 and a 2007 Griso 1100. I really can't wait to pick it up since I've been looking for one for a few years now. Here's a pic of the bike I'll be getting. Ken Nice looking bike. I know the feeling of leaving for a while but the lure keeps dragging you back
  19. I seem to have found the cause of the bogging and stopping problem - I discovered that the RH silencer wasn't properly tightened on the crossover after the missus said I had a rattle on that side during a run. I tightened up and it's behaving so much better now. Hasn't cut out once. So you might check your exhaust system for leaks I guess if stalling's a problem (exhaust gasket ring, clamps on crossover etc.). Just a thought. AndyH I never realized that an exhaust leak like that would cause a drivability problem. But then I learned recently on another forum I'm on that a Morini with a loose rubber between the carb and the air filter can cause irratic running. Never too old to learn
  20. I recently got a Rosso Mandello with 45k miles on it and it looks like it. so it's going to need some refurbishing particularly around the back half. Questions I have are; Is there a color reference for Dupont or other manufacturer of paint in the US for the tank and for the greay tail section? Are the Rosso Mandello decals on the tail section still available? Are the valve covers supposed to match the tank? If not is there a paint code or number available for them also? I guess that's enough to keep me busy for about a week
  21. Hello Pete I am interested in purchasing one of your plates if you end up having time to get one ready to ship. Just purchased a 2001 rosso mandello. Thanks Randy Ditto what he said
  22. I'm interested in getting a roperplate but I'm having trouble contacting Pete Roper. Anybody have any current contact info? Also I aminterested in buying or getting info on some plastic bites that used to be made buy the forum handle "EDGE" if anybody has any around they didn't use or want to sell I'd be interested. If nobody has any does anyone know what material was used. I found some stuff called Cydex that looks good but not easy to get. Any other suggestions?
  23. Idle speed dropping is also the 1st sign of time to adjust the valves... I just replaced my air filter and the idle speed dropped a bit, so clogged air filter, I think not necessarily. Oh and I did my valve clearances recently. They say do them cold - it was minus 6C. Now mine's occasionally bogging and stopping at tickover when I stop at lights or at a junction after an open run. Around town it's fine. That's why I'm reading this topic. A That's why I want to set mine up a little. Mine stalled at an intersection while I was waiting for oncoming traffic so I could turn and it can be quite dangerous.
  24. Want a used pit stand for V11 sport
  25. Well since Jaap is doing such a great job keeping this site going I thought the least I could do is take a little time to do this intro. I think I’ve been on this forum before back about 04 when I had a V11 LeMans. Anyway I’m a few months shy of 70. Still like my sport touring bikes although I do most of my long trips on my Scarabeo 500 scooter. I’ve had quite a few bikes, mostly Italian, More Ducatis than Guzzi’s. I’ve has Sp1000, V50, Breva 1100 and 02 LeMans. Now I have a Rossa Mandello along with my Moto Morini Camel and my Scarabeo500. My Rosso has Guzzi Ti exhaust and ECU, heated grips, Sargent seat and some other mods. I don’t have any immediate changes planned for it other than to do something about that rear hugger. I’m not a putter, I still like to do some canyon carving. I used to do some track days but wrecked one of my Ducatis At Summit Point in 02 and my wife said “no more racing without a rollcage around you”. My wife and I took my Piaggio X9500 across the USA e few years ago out to the Pacific coast hiway, 7006 miles from door to door. I used to race SCCA for about 20 years but I don’t have much interest in cars anymore. However I do have a new Fiat 500 Abarth arriving in a couple of weeks. That’s because it’s 50th anniversary car for me. 50 years ago I brought my first new car. The first Mini Cooper imported into Germany (Iwas in the Army over there then) So this will be my last new car and I wanted it to be a fun car like the first one. Physically I’m pretty healthy for an old man although too fat and/or too short 5’8” 200lb. I’m a 2 time Cancer survivor. Took a kidney 12 years ago and a lung 2 years ago but I still ride bicycle every other day at least 10 miles in this hilly area. Other interests are being a Christ follower, my wife of 23 years and music, anything but rap. Well now you know probably a lot more about me than you ever wanted. Hope to meet some of you guys sometime.
