  1. I went out and looked at the side cover and it looks like probably a half hour job, But I wanted to do some more evaluating first. I bought my bike from the original owner so I looked through the records I got with the bike and found the recall notice and work order for the transmission update performed back in '04. Along with the block being replaced, I assume for the black paint recall. I rode the bike some more and when down shifting it is definitely going past a gear to a neutral. So I road for about 10 miles concentrating on downshifting very lightly and it was much better but I still missed a few downshifts. I don't have any off the stock linkage, I have moto-Bits shifter. It has a couple of adjustments for leverage on the shifter. I moved it to give less leverage and drove for a while shift with authority and it worked pretty goo except about 1 time out of 4 going from 3 to 2 it wouldn't go in right away, being to short. So I doesn't seem like it's going to get any better. I'll take the side cover off and try adjusting the pawl engagement but I'm not very optimistic. What is it about the 04 shift cover that makes it so much better than the old one. The other thing is, is the later shift cover a sure cure or is it something that works for one guy but maybe not the other
  2. It doesn't take that long to remove it.I can have it off in about 15-20 mins but Ive done it several times so unfortunately ,Im an expert. The weather has taken a sharp turn for the worse this weekend . So it seems like a good time to investigate . Problem is the couple of threads I found on removing the plate seems to have lost it's pictures over time. Can anyone point me to a good thread w/pics for removing the plate and what to look at?
  3. No I haven't. Do you think there would be anything obvious to see if I pulled the cover. I really didn't want to take it apart this time of year unless I would be ready to put it back together rather quickly. I just would rather be riding than working on nice days when you get to be a certain age
  4. Well I will get up to the dealer next week and see if their computer will show whether mine was ever worked on for recall items. Meanwhile does anybody have an idea where to get a later pre selector cover? What years, what models (california Breva etc) and whats a fair price for one?
  5. Docc I know this is an old post so I'm wondering if you ever reached a definitive resolve. I was out riding today, rather aggressively and although I don't have any problems upshifting it was getting to the point where it was acting just like you described on every 5-4, 4-3 downshift. Like it was really going past the gear it was supposed to find. And I feel your whole statement about safety is exactly how I feel. I changed to the high shock Redline last fall and it made a big difference but now it feels like something has come out of adjustment. You were saying in this thread about centering something. I didn't understand what you were talking about. Did it work? are there pictures?
  6. +1 on the KTM 390 Duke. I think I gotta have one of them
  7. I've looked through 4 pages of chit chat and haven't see one picture I'd like to ad an opinion here. Make it a v11 sport of any model, LeMans, Rosso Mandello etc. Preferably an action shot similar to WASPP's avitar. Not a Moto Guzzi Emblem or eagle or V engine. They are not specific enough to the V11 sport and I, quite frankly don't like my V11 compared to a bunch of cruiser bikes. Also go for quality over the cheapest way to get it done. Like I said, just an opinion
  8. That national list is out of date in some cases and inconsistant in others where some dealers say their suppliers are sometimes reluctant to deliver on time to keep them supplied. And I agree from my experience that the 91 octane pure gas I drove 50 miles for pinged more than the local 91 octane 10% ethanol gas I usually run. My main concern was the tank swelling.
  9. Well that wouldn't be an option for me as I live in south central PA and a lot of times I end up riding in western PA W VA and VA so hunting down a place to buy ethanol free fuel would be out of the question. I did have my AMSOIL dealer drop a bottle of his moto octane booster to read the contents. A lot of octane tests, I think, are very flawed. Here's one I think is about as creditable as I've seen, and BTW the AMSOIL booster falls in the "MMT" category http://www.europeancarweb.com/tech/0503ec_octane_boosters_tested/
  10. We all know about the ethanol effects on Guzzi tanks. I found a local station (50 miles local?) that sells gas with no ethanol and so I got a few gallons to put in my tank for over the winter months. What I've found is that although this gas is rated at 91 pump octane the same as the ethanol bases gas I get at Sheetz, it pings a lot more, even on cool days. I'm looking into using some amsoil motorcycle octane booster to use even on a regular basis but I know a lot of octane boosters contain high amounts of ethanol. So I don't want to use one of them to aggravate the tank swelling problem. Can anyone tell me if Amsoil booster uses ethanol? I can't seem to find any info on the net. Eventually I'll have MYECU up and running but even with that if I have more octane I can adjust for a little more power or just have an extra safety cushion.
  11. I really like the last couple sets of Michelin Pilots I've had. 2ct's and 3's. I just installed a Pilot road 3 on the back and a pilot 3 sport on the front. My No#1 priority for tires on my bike is wet weather performance and I like a softer front tire. I figure I can handle the back coming out on me but losing the front is scarey. The fronts don't quite wear out when the back does but I replace them as a pair anyway. I've been getting about 6~6500 miles on the Pilots on my Ducati but don't know what I'll get on the V11 yet. BTW the front pilot 3 sport is about $40 cheaper than the pilot 3 road at Motorcycle super store.
  12. Ican't help you but I didn't know Magni made a fairing for a v11 sport. Post a picture when you get it done please
  13. I just sold a Morini 501 Camel to a guy in Mich. I think Yipselanti. Maybe you'll run into him
  14. Well I found my problem. Someone had this cap off before and put the gasket on upside down so the bolt holes lined up but the vent holes were block. Another prior mechanic puzzle solved. I've certainly had my share of them on this bike.
  15. I checked my tank today and it seems to be clogged also. I removed the tank and emptied it. I took the nipples and hoses off the bottum of the tank and they are clear but there still is a restriction in the tank. Is there any kind of one way valve or reducer valve in there? If not I should be able to go down through there with mechanics wire and clean it out right? How unrestricted should it be? I would have thought that water should run through it pretty easy. Is there any convoluted angles in there that could restrict it? TIA
  16. Thanks guys for all the prayers and well wishes. This is actually my 3rd bout with cancer. 2001; Kidney removed for stage 3b cancer. 2010 lobe of lung removed for lung cancer and now lymph node chance. just proves God blesses me in spite of myself. One event I do want to make this year is some kind of Guzzi meet at Pipestem Nat'l Park in WV Does anyone have any info on whether it is planned for 2013. Also is there any spine frame or sporting Guzzi's show up for this. I've been in the Marlinton WV area a couple of years w/duc sport touring bikes and I think these are some of the best roads in the country to ride and I'd love to do it again
  17. Went to my oncologist the other day and after 35 radiation treatments and 7 Chemo treatments he says my Cancer is in remission. Sooo... gotta get these projects moving for another season of riding
  18. No V11 sport t-shirts?....Anybody?....Bueller?.... Bueller?
  19. With all the beautiful Guzzi cafe racers and variatiions of v11 sports around I can't believe nobody has made a V11 sport or cafe racer type t-shirt
  20. Like fotoguzzi said, all LeMans models are long-frame [black]. The color of the frame isn't the key, as Rosso Mandellos had black frames w/ that lovely red finish on the rest of the bike, but they were short-frame models. First V11LM is officially a '02 model, regardless of whether produced/sold in '01 [Dumb motorsports manfs. w/ their model years starting in September... ] It was interesting looking at the changes ofver the years. One thing I'm having trouble finding is the specs on the different models with the long and short WB. Can someone tell what lenth the long WB is and what the short WB is? It tells me in the updates which ones were which but it doesn't give any lengths
  21. I have #101 here in York PA. bought it from some girl in South(I think) Carolina

    Nice job Dave
  23. I just had my RM rear shock done by Race Tech this summer and am very happy with it. Take it off send it to them along with info for your weight and riding style. They will rebuild it, revalve it, and install a custom spring for you. About $500 and two weeks. I may get a kit from them this winter for the front forks. Meanwhile I have the damping cranked the whole way in on both forks and the steering damper cranked 3/4 way in and it works pretty good for me YMMV
  24. Duh, That's where they were. Thanks. In my defense I did feel under neath but at the switch area not the lever clamp.
