He believes it came from the factory that way as he didn't see any signs of twisting, just mis-alignment. emry Posted May 4, 2010 Share Posted May 4, 2010 I work with an individual that worked with Guzzi from around 99~04. When I told him I own an 02 Scura, he laughed and asked if I rode it. He was quite serious. During one of several trips to the factory he noted major assembly "mistakes" and he is not a very technical indivdual (although experienced) -- sales.... Perhaps the shaft was half n' halfed during assembly. Easy to do whe nyou dro pseveral.. Sangria!!! What's the football score???? Get it balanced. While 65k is very good, a balanced driveshaft is not that expensive and would only help matters (cheaper than a trans case.) I don't remember if you went to a machine shop or where? After looking back at the pictures , you need to have this problem repaired. when you talk to the right people they will explain why it needs to be perfect. A shop that specializes in off road 4x4's and extreme driveshaft angles would / should get the picture. I had already decided I was pulling it back apart after inner tonight. At least it's only the driveshaft I need to get to. I found another automotive machine shop that specializes in drivetrain work. Hopefully this one will work out better. You could ask him about the driveshaft...could be ??? cheaper than having one rewelded??? I have not idea on it; I just noticed Mark had a few parts on fleabay. Everything was working quite well. Then I went for a long ride and it busted a ring 250 miles from home Lots of smoke. Burning a quart of oil every 60 miles or so. I just picked up my new cylinder/pistons on my way into work this morning. I should have just set the thing on fire on the side of the road but I'm not smart enough for that. When He put it back together he didn't put a circlip on correctly, it broke. The shifter shaft feel out at about 70+ mph. Replace a couple of pieces to prevent a transmission lockup. I had all the springs replaced while they were in there. When I got the bike back the neutral indicator light would come on randomly. Turns out a clip had broken that holds a shifter cam onto a pressed fit shaft on the cover. While I was riding out in western MA on Tuesday I noticed transmission oil leaking from the shaft, so I kept an eye on it and headed home, stopping 5-6 times to check it. On the Mass Pike at around 75 MPH the shaft fell out of the case onto the road. I happened to look in the mirror and see smoke billowing out the back. I knew I blew a seal or something and the rear tire would be soaked with oil. I slowly pulled into the breakdown lane. I used the front brake to slow down to about 50 and downshifted, not realizing the shifter cam had fallen into the tranny. BOOM and a nice controlled rear wheel lockup for about 150 ft... Tom, nice work. It's good that happened in the western part of the state. Imagine that in the east, say on 128? I give you credit for controlling the machine.
