  1. Well, this popped up recently on ADVRider https://advrider.com/f/threads/2001-moto-guzzi-v11-sport-rosso-mandello-excellent-condition-tons-of-parts-oakland-ca.1400058/
  2. Love the tail tidy and brake light, but unless my eyes deceive me someone has bedazzled that tank! I had hoped the Bedazzler epidemic was officially contained in the US, but apparently security in the 80's was a bit lax ..........
  3. Purloined's prose is worthy of greater readership than this modest forum offers, for sure. I'll follow this thread to the end just to read each unfolding chapter and bone up on my working vocabulary. I have SAFECO and while I could arguably return to USAA and get a slightly better deal, I exercise the benefit of the personal relationship I have with my broker. Said broker happens to be a fraternity brother with a history of moral terpitude who since recovered, repented, married, has built a very succesful business by increasing my rates and those of my fraternity brothers, at a metronomic pace. As we are quite close and share many things, among them a history of moral terpitude, he goes to the mat for me with SAFECO whenever needed. Thankfully, those efforts have never been required insofar as bikes are concerned, but his relationship with SAFECO and his book of business gives him some clout when he chooses to exercise it. I hope this works out in your favor and someone sees their way to take good care of you as a customer.
  4. Essentially new. I guess I had an Imelda Marcos moment years ago and got these along with a work boot purchase. Size 12 fits more like a 12.5 (I wear 47 Sidi's and 13 street shoes w/ a narrow foot). Buttery soft oiled leather only worn twice in warm, dry weather. These are pretty badass and if I had an old R20 or something vintage I'd hold onto them for rare occasions. You can still find these in sizes 6-7 tiny, but no longer available in manly sizes.
  5. Any feedback on how this performs? $50 vs $350 for a JW Speaker brand is compelling, but the price delta is so great that it would scare me off from a quality perspective.
  6. Up on ADVRider: https://advrider.com/f/threads/2000-moto-guzzi-v1100-sport.1385390/
  7. That woulda been fruity. We barely know each other. šŸ˜‚
  8. What? Like "Uggh! Why did you post that?" Or, "Uggh! That's the ugliest thing I've ever seen and I wouldn't dig a plugged nickel out of the sofa cushions for it!"
  9. Hey, thanks for posting those pics and why didn't we line them all up together? Dude at a gas station on the way home said, "Das a nice Motor Geezy, right der." Enjoyed the walkabout and chance to meet a few new faces. Have to bring my truck next year as there were a couple of Honda CL's that may not have survived the day had I not been riding. Didn't know that there was a German made Triumph, but indeed one was there in little 'ol Corvallis. Ran over on campus to have coffee with my daughter before heading home in the rain. A man can stretch his legs out around Kings Valley, for sure. My personal favorite -
  10. This one popped up recently: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/mcy/d/san-francisco-2002-moto-guzzi-v11-sport/6892767726.html #600 of 700? What's the general consensus on the numerical liberties taken by the Moto Guzzi marketing team back in the day?
  11. I have to go look and see where the bolts for the gas cap are. I might be able to get away with three. Thanks for the link, too.
  12. Yes, the tank top / cover. Scud is correct in that anything can be McGyvered. My aluminum spacers were just too thin, so I had to stack them. I'll try again at some point. Plus, the Amazon sourced part from China is a little janky.
  13. This is always a great topic, both for reinforcement of simply wearing good gear and ideas, thoughts, and feedback for new purchases. Type of riding for me depends on what I wear which I know is probably not hardcore ATGATT, but ......... Scura - Arai Signet or Arai Ram-X / Shoei / Bell Star, leather or textile jacket (Vanson MK2 perf, Revit, AStars w/ armor and back protector), some sort of reinforced kevlar jean, but I do confess to wearing plain old denim without my Bohn armor, AStars SMX boots, Sidi Doha, or other 3/4 boot with heel and ankle protection, good gloves . I'll wear the full on Vanson MK2 + pants if it's a multi-day trip. I picked up a Joe Rocket Survivor Suit years ago to commute in and use it depending on weather conditions and lower temps. It leaks like a sieve through the crotch, so fair warning you'll have a soggy taint upon arrival at your desk. Africa Twin - Depends on temps and ride type. If I commute it's some sort of combo above or Klim Traverse jacket / pants, Sidi Crossfire's, Shoei Hornet. Track Day - Haven't been out since early last year, but Pilot leathers have treated me well. I'm a tall, skinny guy so getting race leathers fitted properly is important and worth the extra $$. You don't want to go down in a saggy, ill fitting sack. I think more bits get hurt when you're moving around inside the suit as the suit is sliding and flailing all over the asphalt. I will happily report that I've never been struck by a vehicle on the highway. I have been down many times at the track over the years and recognize that wearing the best gear you can afford at all times is key. It's unsettling enough to lowside or get ass packed at the track when you don't expect it. Can't imagine compounding that by placing the scenario into a busy intersection or highway.
  14. A speed freak's sneek peek @ Bald Peak?
  15. I'd be half tempted to buy that, wrap it, and recover the seat. I know what you mean, though. It's the best looking Griso. Also, someone piped up at the Saturday breakfast meeting about a local T3 that is for sale. Suppose I could get some more info on it, but the "wise men" all nodded in approval when the news was shared.
  16. This one popped up on my FB feed today. $4k seems like I need to go to the ā€œGreat Big Book of Excuses and Otherwise Fabricated Justificationsā€ for guidance.
  17. Yessir ........ had my first flicker recently under WOT acceleration. Plus, it'll give me something to do when I do the OAF. PM coming.
  18. And ....... the ring doesn't have enough vertical clearance for the CF air box cover. I fiddled with some spacers I had lying around from another project, but didn't like the result. If anyone would like it it's your for the cost of freight. I'll go back to a RAM mount off the steering stem.
  19. I took that same picture in January!! Excellent ......... Around the corner and down river a little bit is a beautiful little ranch house looking across at the glacier. One of the many, "Holy crap. What a place!" moments of our trip.
  20. Love it w/ full disclosure that I'm no Chris Birch. Yes, some smokin' deals out there. I was an early adopter and enthusiastic farkler, so I try not to pay close attention to current prices. I will say that I'll appreciate my 10k miles worth of riding since new and call that good ROI. Purchased with intent to ride as much challenging terrain as I am capable. To date, some tight "double track" in OR & WA Coast Range / Cascades with some long roadies into ID, WY, MO, and Canada. Have experienced "fork gate" - bushing wear on internals causing undue stiction, erosion of internal fork leg anodizing, etc. Honda famously won't warranty the problem, so consider that if you buy. If you do, just enjoy the lower MSRP and swap it all for Ohlins. I'm waiting for the next rebuild cycle on mine to perhaps get the bigger 43mm fork tubes off the ATAS and then rework suspension bits from there. Happy to prattle on if you want more info ..........
  21. Timely post. I was thinking about messing with the cap and stem again using my big 'ol box of RAM parts, but after reading through the link to previous discussions I just bought that tank adapter and will see how we get along.

  23. Replaced the stock clutch and brake master reservoirs with black Rizoma Wave billet models, and got the Motobits rearsets (if they can really be called rearsets) installed with help from my local shop whose tech was rewarded with a little aged brown water for his efforts. The levers are eccentric, but there remains no way to move the pegs themselves. The Knight Designs pegs were ok, but I'll likely sell them now. I did order and receive another brand of eccentric pegs and offset brackets (docc recommendation), but they arrived after these were installed, so into the big bin o' spares they go for the future. Ohlins fork springs 1.05 were pulled out and K-Tech .095's were put back in. The front end now has some compliance and feel. Ghezzi-Brian CF chin spoiler arrived and that went on, too. 24k service coming up and then this winter perhaps the clutch and a re-anodize / re- powdercoat of the pork chops when everything is pulled apart.
  24. I'm the third owner of #603.
  25. WOOT! Apparently the background check was reviewed, approved and I'm in. Must have been the substitute admin working that day. Picked up a two owner 2002 Scura out of the L.A. area in April and have been busy Googling about for the knowledge ever since. Had eyeballs on a number of Guzzi's over the last few years and came quite close to a California Custom, but decided to quickly scoop this one up when it was posted. Also, my first Italian mistress. Not that I didn't pine, nor have I stopped pining, for many over the years. Save for the KTM woods bike I've always flown the Japanese flag, but hope this new relationship gels quickly, and doesn't end up in rehab when I find out she likes really expensive shoes, demands First Class airfare, and has a rabid coke habit. Previous owner (maybe had been on this forum?) curiously put stiffer springs in the Ohlins up front which upon delivery proved to ride like a skateboard. I think they're 1.05's and I'll drop it back to .095 (close as I can remember). Odd in that he was far smaller than I am and reported that it was too soft. Heck, I'm easily 225 with gear and the Scura rides tighter than my CBR track bike with built KTech suspension. Have many questions of which some have already been answered through searches, but look forward to future conversations. So far have picked up some rear sets from Motobits, had the Knight pegs (also the adjustable Monster pegs coming Friday) and will likely keep the Motobits after install and some test rides. Controls are just a different feel than my Hondas, but riding different bikes and adapting to their styles is the joy of it all. Clutch has just a whisker of friction zone (which some say is normal) making rev matching downshifts more challenging to get smoothly completed. The front brake lever position / master cylinder feels a little wooden with a hinky little angle in it (clip on?) that make me tend to reach too far inboard as I roll off throttle and get on the brake. CRG's helped some, but will be looking at a Brembo or Galespeed soon. Clutch is the original, so there's that boogie man. Have a little head gasket leak from the cylinder on the stand side of the bike, probably from removing and replacing the head crash protection "slider". Replaced the old yellow plug wires with new, red NGK bits and ordered the CF belly pan from Ghezzi Brian. Seat will go in for upholstery in August and likely some Alcantara type suede with a diamond stitch and some red accents. Have to learn more about maintenance as all the mechanics of this bike are just different than chain drive I4's, but that was part of the decision to buy it. Pure sex and a new project. Anyway, my name's Gavin and I'm in Portland for anyone that would like to meet up for a coffee. I connected with the local club / shop a few Sunday's ago and will keep in touch there.
