I did not know this would digress into a fuel conversation as I stated in one of my first post.I run one hundred octane sunoco ethanol free. When on a longer ride I run the best available. When I put the bike away I siphon the shit California gas out and put some good stuff in. I get my fuel down the street from a gas station. They sell a lot of race fuel so it is fairly fresh. 10 bucks a gallon

    Table US to EUR Ron

To make it even more confusing, my wife's V11 manual listed octane required using the Euro numbers. So that added to the confusion.

Europe uses the RON number, the US uses an average between RON and MON. That results in the European number being higher.

We discussed this in a topic related to running the V11 with regular fuel.

At the time, I took a picture of an adhesive on my rear mudguard. The recommended fuel for the V11 is 91 RON+MON/2. So in the USA, we should be using 91 Octane fuel. In Europe, the minimum Octane is 95; the equivalent of "premium gas" octane is 98.

I have run the V11 with 87 Octanes without the engine knocking. Not by choice. I was in West Texas, running low on gas, and the only station within my reach only sold regular and diesel. After a complete setup of the V11 earlier this year, my engine no longer cough at 3000, but the engine knocks if I really pull hard on it.

    Fuel 91 RON minimum

The link didn't work for me just now. The message said "connection to the server facebook.com failed". Maybe facebook was having kittens, or maybe my interwbe connection, or maybe the page has been taken down.  :huh2:

It is possible that it does not work because this is not on Facebook Marketplace, but it is within the Moto Guzzi Quota group.

While there are no restrictions to surf Facebook Marketplace, it is possible those exist for a given group. Obviously, I am a member, so I cannot verify.

I must admit that I have not had a pop back since switching to ethanol-free 92 octane. Here is a website which shows many US and Canadian locations for ethanol-fre gas.

    https://www.pure-gas.org/

Costs more but my fuel tank says it likes it.

But it brings back the discussion we had about minimum Octanes for our high compression ratio engines. The V11 is considered high compression ratio, and recommended octanes is 91 using the US calculation.

Some Ethanol free gas station sell below 91 Octane gas. Actually, in Texas, 87 seems to be the norm.

  5. We are coming to COTA, and my QUOTA is still immobilized....

What do we know new and certain?

Michelin is bringing a new compound to the track; the COTA racetrack has been resurfaced partially, however the asphalt is still imperfect with dips and bumps and ribs at certain places.

The VR46 team has declined to be equipped with Yamaha M1s.

That is all we allegedly know.

I may go to see the long race on Sunday, depending on what will happen on Saturday. I am usually able to crash the free Ducati parking lot.

  6. I particularly liked the 3D printer, and that in the future, they will also take it to the races... another very interesting information, is the metrology part of the QA/QC. I remember when I was working with machines, all the metrology controls were manual....

This video is from GPMag, a French magazine exclusively reporting on MotoGP. The magazine is translated into English by Simon Crafar who collaborates to MotoGP. GPMag is also an official Dorna media.

I am a subscriber and the Magazine contains plenty of technical and pilots' interview. It is a good magazine if you are interested in MotoGP.

  7. My Veglia instruments have been rejuvenated;

Here's the before, and after the ministration of "CasadiMoto.com" in Germany.

The Tachometer which was previously not steady is allegedly fixed. The pointers which color was washed out white were repainted orange.

Cherry on top, the Odometer shows 33160 miles instead of 33162 when it left Texas!

People are free to make their own guesses, but I would not take the risk.

    Completely concur!

My strategy is always to right whatever I find wrong, as soon as I detect it. It may not be cheap, but it could save you from a larger expenditure later.

My 911 Porsche was making that rickety noise when starting cold. The distribution chain tensioner is hydraulic. However, on cold start, when there is no pressure, the tensioner relies on a spring until the oil pressure comes up. It is a few seconds. I did not like that brief rattling noise, which did not exist before. I got both left and right bank tensioner springs replaced, even if you have to take the engine down to change a ten dollars spring.

Rather than relying on the chargers' (unknown) algorithms, try using a manual setting and monitor with a volt meter. Terminate the charge at 15.0 volts, discharge and repeat until stable (battery stays above 12.65v for days to weeks and cranks reliably when engaged).

Having worked with batteries, evolving battery chemistry since the 80's, I was never convinced about the "Battery Tender" equipment.

I agree with you that it is better to be proactive, checking and charging your battery as necessary, rather than using those trickle chargers which logic and output you have no control upon.

After my battery exchange, I learned that battery supplies all have different requirements for minimum and maximum voltages. This is well specified for the Lithium batteries, and the up and down limits can be very different.

  10. CCTV captured the video of the guy.

He jumped a fence to get in the compound, and he is also seen dumping the bicycles he took over it. Unfortunately, we are surrounded by two Churches, and on Saturdays, nobody is there. He must have had a truck parked outside.

What I found interesting, though, is that the entire community have "Ring" doorbells, CCTV, Alarms, what not.... still, the guy managed the larceny. Sure, we have now plenty of video footage of him, while he was looking around.

All those alarms and the guy was still able to get away unscathed.

The lesson learned, is that we need to do something about fences that can be easily jumped.

As to Joe Roberts, while his results have not been that impressive, the same can be said for Fabio Quartararo.

I am in agreement with you.

Fabio had an impressive past before he joined the MotoGP. All achieved in Spain. Those successes did not seem to carry to Moto3 and Moto2 until the big reveal happened in MotoGP.

Let's see what happens, but with the Liberty Media deal, their focus on getting a better exposure in the USA, and Trackhouse ownership, I would not be surprised to see Joe Roberts promoted. He is basically the unique trump card they have to make MotoGP more visible in the USA.

Unless they want to lure back Cameron Beaubier, but it is less likely. Cameron was really adamant that the sacrifices to participate in MotoGP require him to spend too much time away from the family. Now he can maybe bought like Yamaha did with Fabio?

A spec tire will always suit some people better then it suits others.

True that. But it also has to do with the motorcycle too. Remember the days when Bridgestone had set shop inside Ducati corse? Ducati were their only customers, and the bike was literally built around the tires, the tires built to suit the bike, iteratively. It worked pretty well.

The "one size" fits all is not as efficient, and we could, can verify it with the difficulty of Yamaha with today's Michelin.

But if we take the example of Marc Marquez, using the same identical tires, he went from back rider to competitive.

In Moto2 Joe Roberts is sitting second in points two races in. That would be partly due to the lack of consistency by most everyone. For example, Lopez is 5th in points with a win and a 25th place finish. Canet is in first place in points with a win and a 10th. So consistency in the first two races hasn't really been there. Roberts in second has a 2nd and a 7th it seems. I only know all that because when I heard Roberts was second in points and rumors were swirling about him and Trackhouse I looked at the results.

I respect Joe Roberts, he works hard at it and has put in the effort. But his results have not been very good, despite being on one of the best teams in the class. He does not seem to have the natural ability that someone like Acosta seems to have. But he does make up for his lack of natural ability with hard work and commitment. So in a way I see a little of myself in him. I never felt I had that natural ability to ride motorcycles. But I was still able to do well through hard work and commitment. So I can relate to Joe in my own way.

I was reading another article about the Liberty Media take over of Dorna.

Their CEO says they are not going to apply the same changes they did to F1 to MotoGP. An example is the Umbrella girls, or Grid ladies. For the time being, they are going to continue in MotoGP.

Something he acknowledged, is the need to have more riders representing markets where they want to grow. Something that Carmelo Ezpeleta answered by stating the current MotoGP riders have the required level to be where they are.

It is going to take sometimes before they can find overseas riders that meet the criteria, and that want to go through the discipline. From what I understood, Cameron Beaubier did not continue in Moto2 because he did not want to spend too much time overseas. Exactly the same reason given by Petrucci for not staying in Moto America.

Maybe Jack Gagné could be given a shot, if he was interested? I think he is already too old.

Joe Roberts is definitively their best bet. He was offered a ride in MotoGP by Aprilia in 2021, which he declined. Let's see what he does this season.

I do absolutely love the tank scheme though, elegant and classic.

I think it takes from the Norton Commando, if I am not mistaken...

oh what weather to be on a bike! Nothing like shirtsleeve weather.

Indeed.... one of the most pleasant Texas weather I remember for this time of the year, to be on a motorcycle. Unheard of... last year, in April we were already fighting sun and humidity throughout.

Houston is really close from Austin, however I would not go against the flow of Eclipse lookers which are going to fight for space everywhere on the path...

Both the 500 H1 and 1000 CBX have already sold!

  16. It is almost like the seat was not made for that rear design?

Looking at it, battery and electronics are underneath the front of the tank? the head beam seems to be a tad too small compared with the rest of the bike...

What could possibly go wrong, I mean TWA 800 was a fluke right?

Moto Guzzi carefully crafted the system as intrinsically safe. It could never happen. Maybe the tank being in plastic helps?
