I would say DORNA is at fault since they altered the penalty serving judgement from "2LLP at the Argentinean GP" to "2LLP at the next participating GP".

They can't rewrite the rules as they go.

Independently on how I feel about the penalty, the rules are the rules. They announced them to the pilots prior to the races; they have to stick to their own words and lick their wounds.

I personally would have picked a departure from pit lane. Or a back spot on the grid for both starts.

I wish I had a nickel for every time I forgot a sidestand. I was conflicted about removing the auto-retract feature from my 'Sport, but it's been on the ground 4 times due to the auto-retract, and zero times from hitting the stand while moving. So off it went. Starting in gear, not so common but pretty familiar also. :/

If it is going to make you feel better, the first time I hand maneuvered my Le Mans from the little ramp on my garage, I left the side stand extended as I thought it would be a safety stop. I planned it as if I lost my balance, I will push the bike and it will safe land on its stand.

I did not have enough strength to flip the bike, so it felled on me. I was lucky that none of my limbs got pinned under anything protruding. So much for taking precautions. Now I don't try to push it by myself.

I suspect Quartararo feels slighted because last year he took out Aleix Espargaro with a similar move and was rightly penalized. But to be fair, Quartararo's move was way more aggressive. He threw it in there really late and it was never going to work. I have not studied Marini's move but initially it appeared to be just a case of loosing the bike while inside another rider. Perhaps Marini should also get a penalty, but from first glance it did not look overly aggressive. But there's the rub. Judgement calls are tricky. Where is the line that, if you cross it, you get a penalty? Some moves, like Marc's, are clearly over the line. But other moves aren't. Where is the line between hard racing and dangerous riding? I am not sure there should be a penalty every time a racer hits or crashes another racer. Some incidents are racing incidents. But figuring out where the line between the two is can be tricky.

    I agree with you.

You cannot start penalizing each time a pilot attempt a pass that did not go well. It is somewhat part of the expectation and show provided by MotoGP.

But when there is a pattern, then there should be some ways to curb behaviors before someone injury.

My main grief is that the rationale behind sanctions are never made public by the stewards panel.

  4. This morning there was a clarification;

Marquez will have to do his double long lap penalty whenever he will be fit to race next.

I don't know if this is a result of the grumbling that has happened since Marc was going to get away without any penalty.

Also, there are more and more voices pointing out the opaque way the stewards are punishing or not the pilots involved in incidents. Fabio Quartararo pointed out that Luca Marini who injured Bastianini did not incur a penalty. Mir had an incident with Fabio Quartararo, crashed out, but got a long lap penalty for the next race.

The steward body does not have to explain their decision, but they are losing credibility. Fast!

That "auto-retract" feature reads as a recipe for disasters.

I do not know you, but I do not need anybody to think for me. Keeping my mind on the task at hand is good. You start losing your skills when you don't make use of them. Remember those pilots who were unable to fly their plane after the auto-pilot exited when air speed became unavailable?

Look at the other bikes in market.  No more than Harleys, Beemers, Guzzis, or Aprilias.  In the ballpark like within 15% of Japanese bikes.   Is 27k Eu the fullboat V4 multi?  An RT would run about the same.

If you're like me, look for creampuff used one, broken-in and recalls done.  I don't care for the break in riding period and that new Guzzi has a governor on it.  Who wants that?  I wanna crack the throttle and go. So many people buy bikes, like to own a bike rather than ride, pamper it and get tired of it or trade for something faster.

I am more an "older" motorcycles kind of guy. The "new/modern" stuff does not do it for me. I do not want to be surveilling a robot; I want to change my own gears, I don't need nobody between my throttle grip and the injection system.

To each its own. I think I am old, old fashioned, and don't really want to pretend the world has changed. One exception though. I have purchased an airbag jacket.

Yes, the 27,490 EUR is for the Multistrada V4 Rally; VAT included. 170 hp - 227 kg. In line with the competition since adventure bikes are those that sell the most, at least in Europe.

If I manage to solve my parking space, I will go for a Stelvio.

  7. I am dreaming of the days when I did not have to depress the clutch to start either my motorbike or my car today.

Until the Le Mans, I had never owned a bike with having the side stand deployed cut the engine if in gear.

Zero is the number of times I attempted to start my bike while in gear; including kick starter.

Zero is the number of times I forgot to fold the the side stand.

I know, suffice one time to mule over the: "how could I forget it".

I watched the first MotoGP in its new format. Saturday Sprint race and Sunday Standard race.

From my armchair, it seems that MM93 has grown desperately frantic to win one more championship. He was always an aggressive rider, but I think he has stepped up his antagonism even more.

Starting last year by injuring Takaaki Nakagami and securing an impossible come back for Fabio Quartararo in Aragon.

Now, he not only injured himself but also Jorge Martin, taking out Oliveira for good measure. According to what I read, since he is not going to participate in the Argentinean GP, his double lap penalty is not carried to Texas.

I am wondering if the fire that burns in him will only be quenched once he manages to equal or surpass VR46s stats...

Anyway, MotoGP needs Marc Marquez, so I don't suppose DORNA is going to do much about tempering his thirst.

    Erratum:

Only 4 pilots out for the Argentinean GP; Jorge Martin will be participating his injury is benign.

It looks like we're going to be down 3 riders at COTA?  I plan to be there if the weather cooperates.  They were falling like flies.

MM#93 used to own the place.  First time I went to COTA, first ever MGP practice session, I walk in the gate into the turns behind thea paddock and he goes rag doll in the little chute before the left hander.  He gets right up.   WOW.   That little chute used crash quite a few riders, medium sharp right (T18)- short chute- medium sharp left (T19).  I've seen them crash at both turns and in the chute between them.

Oliveira is out for Argentina, so with Marc Marquez out, they have 5 less pilots. Taking into account they already started with less bikes this season, with the departure of Suzuki, it is not good...

And because they can't replace any of the missing pilots. Rules say you have to have one GP before you can find a substitute, but the main reason is the fact they can't find substitute pilots given the complexity of the MotoGP nowadays. The only possible candidate for KTM would be Pedrosa, but he does not want to. He will only make an exception for the Spanish GP.

Let's hope nothing bad happens this week-end.

Correct, but your wiring harness gives you both a left, and separate right, turn signal indicators (instead of the Battery/Charging Light) !  <  . . . . >

I am wondering what was the rationale for having a turn signal indicator repetition instead of a much more useful Battery/Charging light...

When you think about it, on a motorcycle, turn indicators are ever more optional than with a car.

  12. https://www.motociclismo.it/10-moto-piu-vendute-febbraio-2023-82299#

Report came in on Motociclismo.it, February sales data for Italy.

The V100 is not inside the top 10.

    The top 10 are all adventure bikes, the Honda Africa Twin trusting the 1st place. Then Yamaha Tracer 9, Benelli TRK, BMW GS, Ducati Multistrada, Yamaha Ténéré, BMW GS Adventure, Honda NC750X;

It makes sense that Piaggio wants an adventure bike using the new V100.

I spoke to some friends about the V100 and they all are curious but would not purchase one, at least just not yet. Mainly because of the lack of dealerships, also they don't trust the brand to properly stick by the warranty rules.

I guess Moto Guzzi has that reputation of not honoring their obligations. MPH did tell me they opted out because of "issues". Also the Triumph / Royal Enfield dealership which I ask if they could add Moto Guzzi told me Piaggio said they had to take Aprilia too to get Guzzi.

  13. The newest cars have a feature that vibrates and firms the steering wheel if you attempt to change lane when the adjacent lane is not clear and you omitted to check your mirrors, or the other vehicle is in your blind spot.

When I took my car driving test, forgetting to use your turn indicator only once implied a retest.

Here in Texas, I understand why drivers don't use it; If you indicate your intention to change lane, the driver in the destination lane will accelerate to close the gap in order to impede the maneuver. It makes sense to hide your intentions to prevent any negative reaction.

I had once a driver on my left, who was in the "continue straight" lane, rolling down his window to politely ask if I could let him pass in front of me, in the right turn only lane. I answered you just had to put on your turn indicator, and I would have let you. His answer was: oh! I see; you are not from Texas then....

When my V11 refused to crank, I purchased a Motobatt from www.motobatt.com

with it, you can run a few tests:

Battery state of charge, which you can usually do using a voltmeter

Battery cranking ability, which requires testing the battery under load, but in this case the tester does it itself.

    Charging system voltage ouput.

    Starter motor test.

    The Part# is MBT.

The tester costs peanuts, and in 5 minutes, you will be able to verify what could be wrong...

  15. I am glad this came up; not the "no crank" V11 issue, but the fact that finding information buried in multiple posts in a thread is often difficult.

I have the idea to coalesce the information into one single ePub embedable short story write up including photos.

Sort of a single read instead of multiple posts, multiple threads.

RadGuzzi is proving that it is not easy to understand the root cause and the ways to mitigate the problem. Not for all the topics though.

But the V11 cranking problem is a really puzzling one. There are various opinions on how to solve it.

That was 250 Kays, which I take as 250 Kilometers. Or in American, 156 miles.

Good catch! to me Kays, sounding like Keys in my mind meant kilograms. I did not immediately compute...

The greatest distance I dared going so far was 226 miles; not because I was pushing it, but I did not find any gas station before.
