  1. This week-end I am going to participate to that advanced course, dispensed by police motor trainers, either active or retired.

I have watched their videos and they use BMW's or Harley's.

Has anybody here done any of these exercises on Moto Guzzi and other bikes? are there any perceptible differences in terms of managing the fact the Guzzi has the cylinders hanging on each sides?

I have done some of these exercises in 2021, when I took a refresher course. But I used a very light 125cc single cylinder bike.

the "keyhole" "Double 360" "W" seem to be rather challenging.

Is there any difference in doing those with a Guzzi? I am thinking about the "tilting moment" that is experienced on a Guzzi engine. I think the key is to keep the engine revving at the same rpm throughout the exercises. A sudden throttle blip may influence your direction. Something you don't have to mitigate with on a Harley or BMW.

    Exercises:

Exercise #1 – Straight Line Cone Weave

Exercise #2 – Offset Cone Weave

    Exercise #3 – U-Turns

Exercise #4 – Right / Left Turn From A Stop

    Exercise #5 – Keyhole

    Exercise #6 – Double 360

    Exercise #7 – Intersection(Iron Cross)

    Exercise #8 – The W

Bonus Exercise – This will be several cone patterns put together

  2. Since I live here, I purchase a lot of "used" gear on eBay.

Of course, I would not purchase a preowned  helmet, but in my never ending quest to Texas acceptable riding equipment, it turns out an excellent choice. I do purchase new gear too, but I tend to give away gear that I no longer use.

Even if my main riding jacket is one that I purchased in 2003.

I also have an Alpinestars Tech-Air 5 airbag which I only wore a single time. Unfortunately the weather in Texas does not accommodate wearing an airbag underneath your riding jacket, and the airbag cannot be worn on its own.

So maybe a path to explore? selling the gear you no longer use on eBay? for garment, you just need to get them dry cleaned and sanitized. I purchased two jackets and did not get any "strange" smell.

Did enjoy the Moto 2 race to, specially last part.

It should be interesting to find out what could happen if MM93 was to change ride to KTM...

Pedro Acosta has been the coveted KTM golden boy, but if Marc Marquez was to go that route, maybe Pedro could be tempted. Isn't Honda with Red Bull too?

  4. It is not Marquez then.... it is the Honda that favors COTA; but not for everybody...

Seriously, a boring GP, starting like a demolition derby, continuing with several top riders hitting the deck.

While the final outcome was interesting, RIns and Marini...

Anyone else saw Marini's overtaking of Quartararo? in an interview, Fabio compared the Ducati to rocket ships.

Good for LCR, big relief for Honda.

I am going out on a limb here, but I think Mir and Rins could switch teams sooner than later.

Bagnaia had it in the bag, he did not need to win this one. It simply contradicts all those who said he had matured and his crash habits were a thing of the past.

Rear "HD" turn signals.  You can see where the previous owner chopped off the rotten OEM stalks, and used the special clip-in/bolt-on base to mount the replacement signals.  Even these bases are starting to disintegrate though, so I'll probably have to come up with some sort of new adapter or somehow use the internal metal of the OEM to make it work.  We'll see over time.

Hard plastic aging under UVs is relentless over the years. Especially older types. They become brittle and simply transform to dust.

The lens of my speedometer is now fissured from sun exposition.

  6. @samdroid When you look for Italian brands, such as Veglia, you need to set your location to Italy using some kind of VPN service.

It also helps if you write the search criterion in local language. I got plenty of hits, however this one is on eBay so it is easy to access.

    Here's the link.

You need to make contact with the seller, because he may refuse to ship outside of Europe. Also note that he sold 479 items, so he is not just a casual seller using eBay to get rid of some of the family jewels. Note the 95.7% feed-back, which is low.

100 EUR for this instrument is nothing! my V11 had the odometer not working, and I spent a long time looking for a replacement; all I could find were complete clusters between 500 and 1000 USD!

    Good luck!

You mean the steering head bearing? Koyo 32907JR-3. Since the same size is used in all modern Aprilias there is some choice

I meant the tapered bearing, the fulcrum of the CARC. That bearing is said to be a failure prone component since allegedly installed without lubricant during assembly.

As I am considering a Stelvio in the 30,000 miles range, I am making a shopping list of what parts I need to source.

Yeah, that can happen when Germans who don't speak English on a daily basis try to do so. I think it has to do with thinking in German and translating the thoughts to English. Formulations that are perfectly acceptable in German sometimes seem blunt and/or arrogant when they are directly translated to English. :huh2:

I haven't had anything to do with the business directly, but they seem to have a fairly good reputation here.

I did not get an answer to my request for a price list; I was mainly interested in finding out the replacement cost for the tapered roller bearing of a CARC which they advertise on their web site. I was trying to find out what brand they used to replace the stock bearing.

In our battle tanks, all the roller bearings came from TIMKEN; https://catalog.timken.com/Tapered-Roller-Bearing-Catalog/C/#

Like most tuning places, "tricked up by Dynotec" doesn't have to mean they have gone the whole hog. It might just mean they have made it run the way it should as opposed to the way it left the production line. :huh2:

I did ask for their price list by email. They never replied; don't know if they just ignored me or if they have enough business to not read their electronic mail.

I was told by another member who had some dealing with them? him? that the answers to his question came out somewhat arrogant and self-entitled.

I thought Alex Marquez already had his moment to shine last weekend....

That 3rd place was like a win for him.

I think a win remains the top objective. Like Zarco and his 11th time being second since he started in MotoGP.

Now he is in for the victory, or nothing. But I don't think COTA is his playground of choice.

On the other hand, Alex may get special advice from his brother who is undeniably the master of this track. Sadly, it seems the Japanese manufacturers are in the dog house.

So who knows? Aprilia or KTM could also create a surprise. Maybe Jack Miller perhaps. Bagnaia being very sore from his misstep may also want to redeem himself.

Very nicely done...a Stelvio with lovely Norge Panniers and stickers...my kind of bike and story indeed!

I'm sure all of the folks here can relate directly to this passion and attachment...it's genuine and heartfelt.

When you think that he got into the Guzzi Stelvio only because they lent one to him while fixing his main bike. It was love at first gear change, still going strong today....

I would love to see Marc leave Honda for KTM. That would be great as a KTM fan. Not a fan of Marc, but his talent is undeniable. Not sure how well he would do on the KTM, it seems to be fairly different from the others, they have a different way of doing things. But I would think good odds he could adapt. Less likely is Marc actually leaving Honda for KTM. That seems far fetched. I have heard the rumors, just like I have heard the rumors Rossi's team will switch from Ducati to Yamaha. Both sets of rumors would seem unlikely.

To be fair, the Honda doesn't seem that far off this year. Marc was on Pole, no? It was just Marc pulling one of his classic brain farts that destroyed his weekend, he was looking good right up until then. Very curious to see how the Kalex chassis works for Honda.

Marc Marquez on the Honda did the pole; using a tow ...

His brother Alex said about the Honda: riding exactly in the same manner, with a Ducati you fight for a podium. With a Honda, you are fighting to get into the top 10 positions.

If Marc Marquez leaves for KTM, I am afraid Honda may retire. Also, remember that one KTM MotoGP spot is held for Pedro Acosta. Who knows what could happen.

  13. Unfortunately, it is in French, there are subtitles but no translation from google.

But this is the kind of "lived" story that I like. This is a passionate tell tale about a Moto Guzzi Stelvio.

The Guzzi Stelvio is going strong once he got the few early Stelvio known issues taken care of.

  14. According to an Italian media, I think it is a TV channel, the appeal court decision will not come before COTA.

Whatever the outcome, Marquez will most likely race at Austin. That, and the background noise that he could join KTM at the end of the season.

    We will see what happens.

  15. I still like to read on paper, and I am subscribed to multiple magazines;

I would like to suggest one which is exclusively dedicated to Moto Guzzi; all the articles are in both English and Italian. Published quarterly on qualitative paper.

Here's a sample for your perusal. You can subscribe directly from their website. They also publish another Magazine exclusively dedicated to Ducati.

No, he can't be judged twice for the same incident. But he can be judged for not serving the original penalty.

He was unable to serve the original sentence as ordered by the stewards, not because he did not want to, because he defaulted on personal injury. This is pretty much different.

Max Biaggi ignored a black flag and was stripped from his win at the Catalunyan GP in 1998 after he refused to serve a "Stop and Go" for overtaking during a Yellow Flag. This was a clear denial to serve a penalty.
