    I have been waiting for that black angled speedo joint where it enters the case for a 2001 V11 for 6 months....funny, i miss the odometer more than the speedo now.

  6. yes - a new forum on riding tips/safety is most welcome. I learn new staff all the time - most trivial - but it is good to share. here's one: if you need to have access to a ticket or peice of paper for a few moments - say you have to surrender your ticket as you board a ferryboat, just tuck it under the fuel filler lip for ez access Bob

  10. Don't forget the ever humble but 3 podium placements in a row guy - Nicky Hayden. I had dinner next to him at Laguna Seca and he is a very nice and down to earth fellow. Consistency is a major key to success and he is learning fast. Not really in the same league as Rossi though....
  11. If you mean, "how are the K&N pods installed?" the answer is they simply bolt on to the throttle bodies in seconds. And the map I got with my PC-III incorporated the fact that I have pods. I should also note that there is a noticeable and throaty intake sound from the pods as would be expected. As for rain issues, I live in Seattle and ride year round but store the bike inside a garage and have never experienced any problems but the pods are in such a location where a stationary bike at least could get rain on the pods as mounted. I have elected to keep the pods on the bike as shown in the photo above (not use the rubber intakes in the other photo). For lurkers, it should be noted that K&N pods are a very common addition to this bike and my configuration is not in any way unique.
  12. Thanks for the advice, I made the fix and everything is back to normal . In fact, it was all good in that I noticed my front tire is in need of replacing during the adjustment. Thanks to all for the excellent advice. By the way and for completeness of the thread, the main triple clamp bolt also needed to be loosened during the procedure. Bob
  13. I applied the front brake on a mud patch and had a 1/8 MPH drop of the V11 to the right. No damage as the entire bike seemed to fall on the right hand bar end and the cylinder guard. Trouble is now I feel like the steering head/triple clamp is ever so slightly rotated to the right. That old feeling I used to get after dropping a dirt bike.... My question is how best to fix? I have attached an image of the stock front end. It happens to be of the left side of the bike (driver's perspective) even though my problem is the bike is easier to turn to the right. I have labelled 3 key areas (A,B and C on image) of the bike in case someone wishes to refer to these various places on the bike where the forks are held and or the clip-ons attach. Thanks
  14. Some pictures here as requested of the K&N Pods attached directly to throttle bodies and the rubber air houses that formerly connected into the airbox (seprate images).
  15. Was just over at MotoI in Seattle and they noted I had attached my K&N pods directly to the TB's. They helpfully suggested my re-installing them with the rubber intakes on the original airbox to improve venturi flow. I like the looks of the pods as they are now on my V11. I searched this site and saw no clear concensus on whether direct attachment to the throttle bodies is ill advised. the bike runs cleanly except for some sputtering around 3800RPM which i feel is a small map problem. If i do re-install, should I trim the diameter of the rubber intakes slightly for a smoother fit - looks like it would be very tight. Thanks and sorry for the repeat topic.
  16. Back to the original posted question: No, I have never noticed the V11 pulling to the right in the 'hands not on handlebars' mode - and I do it fairly often to rest my arms/wrists for 5 seconds or so. The bike is extremely stable in fact. Bob
  17. Same experience here with the BT20's on my V11. I sometimes do it for practice (hit the brakes in the rain to induce an instant slide). Worse, I feel them "give" on turns when I go over a low friction area like a metal joint in an onramp. This thread has convinced me to get new tires ASAP (thanks all).
  18. The first thing to do is to re-caulk around the shower drain and of course clean out the drain - then let it dry for a week and test. These are 2 essential steps before tearing into the ceiling.... Also look for holes in the caulk and re-seal... Surely your brother can do that! Bob
  19. You are really just beginning to "know" your bike and you may feel differently about the ergos as you become more conditioned and alter your riding position slightly on this "new to you" bike. I would give it some time. The bar position and vibration factor is not a factor to me - I have standard bars and some bar ends on my 2001 V11. I do not really even think about it. I have a stutter in the 3800-4K RPM range and have noted that others have rough spots in other places - generally below 5000RPM. I suspect this could be removed if I found a good Dyno shop that could alter the map of the PC-III but the stutter is small enough that I just generally ignore it or alter my throttle or gear position. You may want to purchase a Power Commander as they are a great way to get the most from your machine. Congrats on getting a LeMans

  21. Gee, I haven't had the same experience up here in Washington State but I do not usually drive in the Southern part of the State. I drive mainly up in the Cascades or in the foothills thereof. Never gotten a ticket on my V11. I only "go for it" in situations where cops/hazards are likely to not be encountered. Sometimes just a short blast on the throttle is all that is needed to satisfy (maybe 30 seconds). I generally ride on the weekdays, which may help. I would avoid long straightaways etc. where they can "see you" from a distance. I am not aware that there are more cops up here and I do ride quite a bit.
