  1. Maybe I should have posted the caliper picture instead of Salma... Suffice it to say it is more than a couple of millimeters off. I thought the little spacer btw wheel and rear drive was pretty funny and it is where it's supposed to be. The wheel had never been off before so all spacers and attendant hardware were in place (causing the uneven pad wear) and are once again. So if I need to shim the wheel rather than the caliper... DW
  2. I put my new tire on today and had a look at the rear brake pads. One was worn out, the other 25% gone. When I put it all back together the caliper was not centered, too much in toward the wheel, same side as the excessive wear. Horrible squealing when I moved the bike with the rear brake on. Aha! It is nice to know why the pads were wearing out so quickly. (It is hard to see the inside pad so I thought they were both worn out) It would be nicer if the caliper was biased the other way 'cause I could easily shim it. (Could I?) I don't see an easy way to fix this. What do you all think? I took a picture of the uncentered caliper but it was pretty uninteresting. In it's place is a picture of Salma Hayek in a bikini. DW
  3. 90's is old? Kids today... Those heads were intended for 1000 cc racers of the Le Mans IV era. Lumpy cam, high crown pistons. You probably want to start with one of those bikes to avoid hopeless mismatching of components. There's a guy I know... DW
  4. Thanks to all for the advice and the link. If I could get the pads and tire to wear out at the same time that would be ideal. I'm off to seach the archives about drippy transmissions... DW The rear pads are notorious for fast wear, groaning on backup, overheating, and trashing rotors due to dragging. A few thoughts on this based on my experience in the following thread: http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?...hl=brake+groan# Though I initially had very fast rear brake wear (including the backup groan), after following the routine discussed above, I haven't had a trace of rear brake problems of any kind. IIRC, I got 9K mi out of my last set of Ferodo Platinum pads. sun.gif
  5. I'm not helping here but... I have a heavy foot and my rear pads are almost toast at around 4K. I want longer life without trashing my rotor. Any suggestions? DW
  6. 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, third bench from the left. Thanks Greg, I look forward to another happy installation. DW
  7. Wow, nice site. The advent of the M3 may explain the good price on the M1. I got it for $116 at Dennis Kirk. I hope to get it by the weekend. Until then it is plug and pray! DW
  8. Mileage around 4K so the rear was halfway gone. Is this the right size? My bike is sitting in Manhattan in the rain tonight. Quote is from M.A.W. (61265) $117.95 Metzeler Sportec M1 160/60ZR17 Rear Tire Mfg.#: 1322200 (Edit) Ooops, Try again: (61260) $126.95 Metzeler Sportec M1 180/55ZR17 Rear Tire Mfg.#: 1322000 (/edit) DW
  9. A big chunk of glass found a home in my rear tire. Has anyone replaced just the rear tire and found good results. I have the stock Metzler on my '04

  11. "Got the Ti pipes, but the instructions read as," In my experience, if the bike ran O.K. before it will run O.K. after you put the cans on. Stock Guzzi Map is lean at low RPM for Euro emissions, rich at high RPM to keep the motor together during the break in. EEPROMs, Power Commanders and their ilk address this lean-to-rich variability. Take the lid off your airbox or throw on some K&Ns and all bets are off. You will really need to fix your A/F ratio. If you want a second set of hands I'll be happy to pop by. I helped LaNasa put on his Stucchi X-over and Ago cans a few months past. Email is below. DW in NYC guzziownr at yahoo dot com
  12. Hmm, I'll check the date but it is an '04 purchased in '05. Micha is one of your M.I. colleagues? I will drain the oil and pull and clean the switch. The Moto International mainframe should have me on file... DW
  13. The light works fine when grounded but the switch is not providing a good ground according to the multimeter. Any suggestions? I was thinking about changing the trans oil as it is looking quite black. DW
  14. I used the motion-pro kit (PN 01-0107 -- 50 inches) Very easy, just lay out the old cable and match the length (including the broken bit, natch). I used a chisel to cut it and a vice to crimp the top piece on, took ten minutes. I used Tri-flow cable lube (with Teflon!) and will be lubing more regularly as the last 10 inches of my broken cable were dry and rusty. Heat perhaps? Next easy project will be my intermittent neutral light. I suspect a questionable ground at the trans... DW
  15. "I've been loosely looking for a few months at these and never seen such a great deal. The only other problem is that its in NY and I don't think I could afford to have it shipped on top of the $10,500 very reasonable asking price. " Up Syracuse way is it? Happy to pick it up for you. I have a nice dry spot in my garage. No rush retrieving it, friend of the list you know, comrades in arms as it were... DW
  16. 6' 3" and loving my stock '04 Naked. They say the Corbin seat adds a bit of height. I will try that first. Maybe we should have t-shirts? DW
  17. Hey Joe, welcome to the group. This is a very balanced forum as evidenced by the fact that the Euro-Oz contingent thinks there are an awful lot of Yanks on it and vicey-versy. I am in NYC so post if you are going anywhere. Fellow listers like to meet and greet. DW Work in progress:
  18. That's a nice thought Greg, thanks. DW
  19. I was pissed off when the fuel light came on at 88 miles. What kind of horrible milage is THAT! I kept looking at the light and willing it to go back off again when I noticed that the odo was stuck on 88 and that needle thingy stayed at zero at different speeds. I guess I don't look at the speedo much... Anybody have the P/N for my busted speedo cable? U.S. source? DW P.S. Office wanking video,

Is that all one piece? The, um, Auspuffanlage, looks a bit unhandy to ship DW
  22. Let me know when you go -- I like to watch! In response to Mr. Laing: I got my bike from Moto International and it was very nicely set up. It ran fine with the stock map, if a little hot. Not all bikes get their initial setup from the firm of Field and Richardson The PC III was an improvement but that could be wishful thinking as I did not dyno before and after. Since I plan to do pipes and airbox in the future the PC III was a logical first step. I have had the bike for a year and a little over 3.5K so it is still in break-in. DW
  23. Why do we keep switching channels with the remote? Because we can! With a stock bike the PC III is a novelty and dyno tuning a luxury. When you start derestricting your exhaust and airbox, being able to alter your fuel map is a necessity. DW Stock bike with PC III
