  1. I heard that some of the Nortons were ridden at a "brisk" pace. And 1 or 2 needed roadside crash repairs Easily done on a metal bike. I've come across some of these guys on impromptu rides and don't let the age fool you. Of course, I'm talking about the age of the bikes
  2. and I thought it was me. I had a Triumph Sprint RS which came new with 020s. The front slid out so far on me in the rain, I had to stop and check my underwear. Was with some other guys, it was raining very hard and we were not going fast at all. Went around a very slight bend, can't even call it a corner and the front end just slid. Got off the bike and there was a mark around the right side of the whole circumference of the tire about 1 1/2 inches wide where the tire slid. No one else in the group had any problems at this bend. The rear is so-so but I would never recommend anyone use the front 020.
  3. I'm lucky enough to live fairly close to the border so getting stuff mailed to the American side cuts out a lot of the crap. If I have to return something back to the US, I just drive back into the US with all the applicable paperwork and then mail or Fed Ex it.
  4. Air tech's site says they''ll do custom work but then we're probably talking Magni prices??? I still may go with that Ducati 750 type fairing, but the lock to lock clearance of the bars worries me. The headlight shouldn't be too difficult to stick forward a few inches but then there's the wiring lengths to worry about. It would be nice to have the fairing in hand to check everything.
  5. Personally, I'd forget about Magni and go with these guys. http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/vintage/prodvintage.html Check the Ducati 750, 1972-79 I think is the model.
  6. One answer for winter on the wet coast. Dirt (or mud) riding
  7. I have to think now because the bike is in the shop The numbers are on the side, correct? My oil leak is from the generator/alternator cover on the front of the engine. Nothing major but it's still under warranty. I let the shop know about a month ago and then I was on holidays for 3 weeks so the o-ring or seal was in and the bike should be ready.
  8. Ya, both mine broke.........at different times of course No big deal. Some mechanic's wire and zap straps. One of the reasons I keep going to the same shop for my Yamahas. 88 FZR1000 alternator died. They pulled one off a showroom bike immediately I've been a regular customer since.
  9. My gearbox has been done and I really don't notice any difference. Coincidentally(?) my bike has developed an oil leak right afterwards at the front of the engine. Another strange thing has happened. The Mechanic at the shop where I took my bike to, has the identical V11 as mine, including the Mistral crossover, pipes and airfilter mod. I got him to download his map into my powercommander and then dyno'd the bike with the pc hooked up and unhooked. HP was almost identical but the bike made 2lb ft more torque without the pc hooked up It's been suggested that my pc is knackered. I know the pc is out of warranty but anyone got any ideas on how much they charge to repair one? The bike runs fine without the pc hooked up.
  10. A friend has offered me the use of his second bike, and FZ1 for the 4 days we'll be on the IOM Rest of the time, we'll be in Jockland and "OOOOOOOP NORF" of Blighty. Anyone know of some good Guzzi shops in Scotland or norther England?
  11. Aw comon Steve!! You want a nice pair of titanium mistrals
  12. I usually get the missus to do it. After she's done the ironing of course
  13. If it wasn't for the info on this forum, I would've never bought my Quota or the V11Sport. This forum provided me with a "heads up" on what to expect and it also kept any surprises from happening, like when the bike quit about 10 miles from home (relay). Instead of standing beside the road and spending hours tearing my hair out trying to figure out what was wrong, I inserted the Bosch relay I had from my Quota and.......vroooooooooom, rode to the shop to get the relays replaced under warranty. If you want to get really depressed, especially if you own a Suzuki TL1000S, go to www.micapeak.com , clik on the "registry" and check out the testimonials on there. I owned a TL1000S. 16,000 kms (400 k after a full service) the main bearing went and destroyed the engine. Sucksuki Canada was absolutely no help and even suggested the problem was from "too many wheelies". Worst bike I've ever owned. 1 problem after another with no help from Sucksuki. I know what you mean though about hearing just the bad stuff and the tongue in cheek comment hits home
  14. I really like yours jrt. I'm assuming that the plastic/transparent part of the fairing is available at plastic shops? Lexan would be nice but a bear to work with. If yours blocks a lot of the wind I may go with the Air Tech Bimmer one.
  15. I'm interested in the Diablos also. A friend in the UK who has the same model Tirumph as I do installed them and said it completely transformed the bike. Rides smoother, no more harshness in the front end, they seem to last very well for "sticky" tires. I've used Pirelli tires on dual sport to sport bikes and have nothing but good experiences with them. Now that the Diablos are being sold, I would think you may be able to get a good price on Dragons. I know a BMW 1100RS owner who wont install anything but Pirelli Dragons and has over 70,000 miles on his bike. He says that he'll sacrifice a bit of longetivity for adhesion. That's the way I feel also.
  16. I was trying to keep a "clean" old style cafe racer look to my V11 but after even limited freeway use I realize for the sake of my neck I need a windscreen. Do the stock mini-fairings actually help or am I better off going with the taller Givi screen. A friend has managed to find a painter that matched up the stock green paint perfectly on his so colour matching is not a problem now. The BMW fairing pictured elsewhere looks very nice also. Is there an aftermarket company who sells these? I'm looking for something that won't ruin the lines of the bike but deflects enough air to keep my neck from feeling like someone stepped on it and if possible, is easily removed for day to day riding. Thanks in advance!
  17. I agree. The Guzzi is so much fun to ride, I forget about fuel mileage A clear case that HP doesnt necessarily mean more fun. I think many riders these days forget that.
  18. Makes me wonder. My Sprint RS puts out way more HP than the V11, yet 50mpg on the highway is fairly easy to get with it. Is there something about a triple motor that helps it get great fuel mileage?
  19. I'd have to have a degree in physics to understand half the stuff I asked in the 2nd thread if Ram Air only works at high speed. According to Doug Meyer, it "works" (bad term, I know) at all speeds but how much it helps varies with speed. The first thread I posted gets into 3 or 4 pages of very involved testing of the Hans snorkel compared to the stock snorkel on the first year ZX-12R. Apparently Kawasaki changed the snorkel shape, position and size for the 02 model.
  20. Techlusion box is like a pc but the techlusion only adjusts fuel mixture. Thats my understanding anyway. Sort of like a Dynojet kit for FI.
  21. This thread is dealing with intake snorkels and ram air. The "Hans" is an aftermarket snorkel which is availabe for the ZX-12R. Doug Meyer builds race engines for Muzzy. http://www.bikeland.org/board/viewthread.p...=1829&set_time= http://www.bikeland.org/board/viewthread.p...=8980&set_time=
  22. You can buy sheets of adhesive film from any bike shop that sells dirt bikes. It's very sticky but wont take the paint off when removed. It also comes in different colours including transparent. I use it on my Triumph to prevent the soft bags from scratching the paint and also on the sides of the fuel tank to prevent scuffing. A cheaper alternative is to use adhesive shelf liner which is sold in just about any hardware store. This stuff is bugger to get the wrinkles and air bubbles out of but great if you are just using it for a trip and then intend to discard it.
  23. Roads around the Seattle area? Tons of them!!!! Mt. St. Helens- "Windy Ridge Road". The road from Cougar to Randle. Highway 9 to the Canadian border. Highway 20 to Winthrop. Olympic Penninsula, then Chuckanut drive to Bellingham. South Skagit Highway. It runs parallel to Highway 20 on the south side of Skagit river. Lots more on the Canadian side of the border which is only 120 miles from Seattle.
  24. Aren't Guzzis great? 2 yearish old blondes in one of those new T-Bird convertibles gave me the wave and one blew me a kiss while on the bike. I too had a dark visor on, much to the laughter of my wife
