Isn't the R/R isolated when the ignition is off? We are dealing with Mandello electrics, so at some level, all bets are off.

The charging wire to the battery positive from the regulator, through our nefarious 30 amp Fuse #3, is continuous and not switched. Neither is the grounding side switched, not the weedy factory ground through the harness nor any (recommended) additional ground from the regulator case to the timing chest/engine.

  2. There has been some extensive discussion of this matter here. At one time, there was an opinion from one of the regulator/rectifier suppliers to disconnect the battery when charging from an external source.

    IMG_4356.jpg

Subsequent discussion from some knowledgeable members refuted this based upon the presence of diodes in the regulator/rectifier stating that it is fine to charge the battery without disconnecting.

Since I have a "service switch" as part of the 30 amp circuit breaker set-up, I always disconnect when charging because 1) it's easy for me, and 2) isn't it the diodes that are at risk of damage in the R/R to begin with?

Could the red frame be the last developed Guzzi model before Aprilia, Piaggio ownership?

    Yes.

Aprilia owned Guzzi from 2000 on, and was bought by Piaggio in 2004.

The V11 started about 1998, didn't it? So that could be right.

The V11 Sport, in black, was shown at EICMA November 1997 with first production late 1999 while Moto Guzzi was still under ownership of the Trident Rowan Group (reportedly 1996-1999, yet some sources say Finprogetti took over ownership from DeTomaso as early as 1994). Very interesting to note the original V11 Sport was "drawn in one night" by one designer, Luciano Marabese, who had a close relationship with Ivano Beggio. It is conjecture, only, that Beggio may have influenced the adoption of the V11 Sport original design (1999-2001) before taking ownership in ~2000.

Did you realize this was going to become such a part of you when you purchased this ?

Haha! Love is like that, isn't it?

The experience of being part of the community that has grown out of these loves reminds of this quote by John Ruskin:

"The highest reward for a man's toil

is not what he gets for it,

but what he becomes by it. "

EDIT: for example, look at what the forum software does with d  ick.

    @#$$#!

That this is a common nickname for people whose name is Richard doesn't come into it. It "knows" that is a "bad word" and censors it. Admittedly a very primitive form of AI, but still, it demonstrates what I mean. :huh2:

Maybe this technology is, at best, "Artificial Decision" (AD) with "intelligence" being a long way off, and likely a perpetual misnomer.

AI does good at simple mimicry.  But is it ready for productivity and quality?

Odd this popped up.  I wrote a bit about AI today in Adv Rider.  The set up was regarding govt spending cuts and inserting AI replacing, rather than assisting, subject matter specialists.

(For govt screening AI) has been tried before and it's failed. Sorta like that AI voice to the local pharmacy or Walmart directing the caller to the right dept in the store determining whether grandma needs her meals of wheels, home nursing, or medicare. When I wrote fail, I mean catastrophic: no one heard from granny, the social worker goes into the the house finds her soiled and on the floor. (Note: just heard this example on NPR a couple of days ago)

The dirty secret about AI is that it takes AI upon AI for many layers until it works from a general application to have specific benefits. And it will take many layers of quality checks and time to determine whether the scheme actually works for each application. Given so many links in the chain, one link can have catastrophic effects. For now we only have human quality checks for each link until accuracy can be determined over time. Further, each link needs to be checked not only for the logic algorithm for the specific application but also each bit of data that feeds the model.

The geeks here can set me straight. I'd like to read the counter to what I've written.

Pretty sure I'm not Geek Qualified, but agreed. The distinction I would make between AI (artificial intelligence) and CG (computer generated) is decision making.  Trusting a vehicle's sensors and interpretive systems to operate the vehicle is "AI", IMO.

Generating an image, video, or voice narration digitally remains CG/computer generated as the software behind the generation is still built by human software engineers and is not making any decisions for us.

To anchor this back to this music thread, it reminds me of my drummer friend's opinion about drum machines. He said something like, "Yeah, they keep perfect time, but they've got no soul."

Real drummers make decisions. The hallmark of "intelligence." :nerd:

"The [drummers] here can set me straight." :sun:  ;)

I have two of the diagrams "blown up" to about 14X24 and laminated in plastic. I can use erasable markers on them. Also , I HAD at one time all of Kiwi_Roy's diagrams printed off . They are in color w/footnotes  along w/V readings where needed. I could NOT find the headlight diagrams . I remember having them because there are two "styles" , earlyish and lateish ! There is a difference in them n I can't remember . It was silly whatever it was .

I am going to have to search my folders here and find them or search this forum again and find them .  He is offline here and has been for sometime. I reached out to him and never got a response . I wish him well !

BTW , I leave German automobile wiring diagrams alone . I last tried one on a M/B retractable hardtop. Got an American version and was able to understand it w/o any troubles.

@Weegie to the rescue with links to both @Kiwi_Roy's diagrams and @callison's content (hosted on Gregory Bender's thisoldtractor ),  as well as linking to @stewgnu's diagrams for the later V11:

    Thank's @docc

Good with me and if it helps the forum or other members then all the better.

Do I need to do anything, let me know?

I'll just keep the diagrams in my Dropbox, don't anticipate any problems with them residing there as it isn't something I use much anyway. Should you want to rehouse them that's also fine.

Just your consent to move these wiring diagram posts/links to their own thread.

    :nerd:

  11. Wow, @Weegie, what a great resource putting that all together!

I suggest we put that post in "How To" as a reference, if you are up for that?

edit: There are also @stewgnu's wiring diagrams for the 2002 and later V11 wiring including one showing the additional to address "Startus Interuptus" . . .

I donc think this is coming from this forum; I looked up his messaging activity, and did not see a request for Daytona RS parts.

Wiring money in a bank to bank transfer is safe, buyer's account to seller's account. This is because it is impossible to open a bank account without the necessary credential. Especially now. To open a bank account, you need government identification, a verified address; in the USA, you need a social security number too.

Scams are easier using those new methods of payments, even if they are some security checks, such as PayPal requesting a bank account backup. But PayPal is not as secure as a bank account.

I know this is just a matter of semantics and terminology, but to clarify:

When a member uses "Message" on this platform (within the forum structure), no one else can see the content besides the participants. This is also referred to as "PM" (Personal Messenger or Private Message) and sometimes "DM" (Direct Message). Even as a Moderator, I cannot see this content.

What we can all see is each member's topics, posting, and replies. An unwelcome, registered member may (likely) have seen @HadaDaytona's "Wanted" topic ( . . ."Just bought a front fairing for a 1997 Daytona RS" . . .) and two other inquiries seeking parts on Classifieds. In this case, the unwanted user likely "Messaged" our member with the external email contact information. Again, this is strictly a Red Flag and should be reported by clicking the "Report" button on the message.

Also, for clarification, please know that your email address is only seen by the Admin and the Moderator.  No member can see another's email unless a member posts it here. Further, please know that software developers can parse our paltry attempts to veil our email or phone numbers when we post something like "bobseven- at_geewhiz-mail-" or whatever. Or phone numbers mixed with words and numerals: seven 5 one two 3 4 eight nine 7 6 (for example).

A senior software engineer once looked at me quizzically and said, "You don't think we can figure that out ?"
