  1. No, I just have to at this point, will pass on info regarding the regs not to buy soon. Hubert is right, the things should last just do your homework before replacing. Raz is ever so right, although I pack Tequilla. Funny and sad- as I sat beside the road awaiting the service for which I pay to come retrieve me no less than 4 new types on their massive motorcycles paraded past without pause, then I heard the distinctive pop of a single approaching, an 250 enduro on which a feller in his 60's did stop and ask if all was well. Nice to see a human out here. The adventure does only commence when something goes awry. Cheers
  2. Sikaflex works wonders at keeping electrics dry Roy! Has anyone hauled apart one of the Accel regulators referred to in a related post that were for the late 80's - early 90's harleys. To have to accommodate the poor quality control associated with these replacement regulators at this point in our evolution beggars belief! My last one gave up with 4 days run on it, the replacement is still in the bike but after 3 days run, I wonder at its potential life span considering my tach jumps at the end of the day when I either work the turn signals or hit high/low on the headlight. Idle just drops away to nothing- you dont need a voltmeter with these scooters, I have found the tachometer a very useful tool for indicating charge rate! @#!#$# me, I would gladly hang a working reg off the side of the bike a la panhead if it would only do its job. 7 days - 6,000km 2nd reg about to pooch! at least have an original replacement reg to put in next- (the original lasted 74000km). Keep up the news gents, it is being read with more than just a little interest. Wonder how I would do on a tour bus?
  3. The "regulator game". I had mine pooch on me up in the Shuswap 3 weeks ago, it was new and replaced last November with the stator. I got the stator from Euro Motoelectrics in Colorada (half the price of alternator here in Canada, not to mention the local couldnt supply anything but complete alternator) and had the local shop get me a reg. That $350 reg lasted 4 days travel. So I had a Kamloops shop verify the trouble and swap reg with same unit and returned the faulty reg, local shop claims they havn't had troubles with these regulators-unit 321-1649....we'll see about that. Just thought I would mention the Colorado shop Roy as they have replacement units for the original reg for $140 and another updated one for $109. I have grounded the reg to the bell housing in addition to stock ground and installed headlight relays, my battery is about a year and a half old- Yuasa Japan. I get 13.25-13.50 volts at the battery @ 3k, considering the bike is run long trips only the battery is well charged and I wouldnt expect the 14+ volts readings others are reporting (should I?). Where would you tie in a voltguage Roy? or would it be better to install an ammeter? Just did a 700km tyre break in day and all seems happy. Havent ridden at night yet but my light looks a hell of a lot brighter reflected in the back panels of the vehicles I overtake. Thanks for your help Roy. Hope the Colorado connection works for ya.
  4. There is a small threaded lug on the front frame just behind the oil cooler left side on mine. 5mm, I use it to ground the headlight relays. I am also putting an additional ground from Reg to Bell housing (aft)
  5. Nice terrain! Great shot Guzzirider
  6. On the casing, just behind the seat release keyway. (02 Lemans)
  7. Hunt down a good artist Andy, this is the most difficult part. Draw what you want, take it in to them, if it is just a logo then that is no problem. People do ink for various reasons, doesn't (or shouldn't) matter what others think. My only question would be- why a logo? Put some thought into it. Come up with something more original.
  8. Thanks for the review (both), kindly keep us informed as to the tyre lifespan and if the performance level stays high throughout. I have been bouncing back and forth between Bridgestone 021 and Michelin Pilot Road 2 for my last few sets of rubber and would welcome a third tyre choice. Getting 12-13000km out of a set (8000-8500miles), sport touring (twisties).
  9. Sounds good or does it? In the first position the bearing made it 65k, now that you've reduced the disparity in Trunnion alignment it may go even further. The fact that there still is disparity means a lateral load will be produced and that must be taken up somewhere- (the bearing in the transmission). We use the same initial drive principal on one of the boats I run, had a tremor I could only feel from the wheelhouse, not aft and not in the engine room. True the shafts, dynamically balance the props 48" diameter 4 blade, Trunnion alignment is spot on between engine and transmission. Still this tremor persisted, last fall on drydock we checked alignment betwixt transmission and final shaft. Bingo one was out .017". Not a lot? Close enough? Its a $60k transmission a tow bill might cost $250k. If someone happens to be standing near when it goes-definite injury. We raise the gear, hog out titanium bed plates and get within .004" each side. Tremor gone. Think of your bike transmission, a delicate instrument in comparison but the theory has to apply here as well even more so. Those Trunnions should match perfectly, not closely. You are transmitting power, causes of excess load have to be eliminated. Don't mean to spook you dude but I too have brought motorcylces sliding to a stop on the roadside myself due to transmission lock (not guzzi) and as you know you are stuck within the laws of physics and can pretty much only go in your current trajectory. If that happens on the Ridge run tween Alices restaurant and Los Gatos you don't get much time to decide whether or not it can be ridden out or if its time to step off. Its such an easy fix, do it right, don't ride in trepidation or on the advice "close enough". No reason to fear the machine, just ensure it is correct 100%, then ride it like ya stole it. Cheers
  10. Battery charge typically more fundamental-ensure operation of Stator and Regulator.
  11. Now thats a story, where the hell are the rest of you? Think back, something should tick. Cant let this idea fall, it is too good, especially with the access of this medium. Turkish/Syrian border; "How do I look?" this from a 5 foot human who is 4 feet wide! Uh, too fat I say, remove the top 3 layers and declare those. I'm on a bus with the locals crossing. Every one including the driver is smuggling, all Syrians, we spend 6 hours at the border with at least 3 people in identical horizontal striped yellow and blue sweaters ballooning about like the start of some sailing race. The officials have had their fill as of Wednesday and go through the process with bovine acceptance. Later we reel out of the rest stop, having relieved ourselves in a dark pit where the first solid encumbrance is human waste-squat here. The bus driver is busy putting out the engine room fire thanks to his loading of nasty acrylic blankets about the mill and is intent on saving what he can. It aint bike, I know, but it is on the road. Cheers
  12. Two tricks would be the gixxer stayin out of the ditch and the Aprillia not self immoliating! Have fun man
  13. Fenda Extenda for the 99-02 Suzuki SV 650 was the closest I found, Depends on how flush you want the fit. I suspect the 500 (Kawi?) JRT is referring to snugs up better to the stock fender But I left a little gap (a recess in the plane really, as you have a lot to play with) matched around the circumference and it flows well with the rest of the front end, not like the actual SV itself,(my wife has one) where it looks like a cheap matt black addition cause it fits so exactly. All up to personal preference, just dont go for the FJ Yamaha one, that didnt match at all, couldnt make it work for love nor money, I gave it away. I think those were the only 3 referred to in that thread. Dale Walker at Holeshot has em, Happy drilling! Why the hell dont modern motorcycles come equipped to handle rain? You can't find a sport bike today that can keep itself dry, pathetic!
  14. Alfies my 'ero, cause 'ees so brave and strong! Damn funny Hubert!
  15. Hmmm subtle chops and wheels (nice colour choice Jaap those gold wheels were hideous) I'll bet the bodywork colour is gonna be loud, orange, red or yellow LOUD!
  16. Alive and Well|!

  17. 4th gear at 100-120km/h gets me 350-370km per tank. 6th gear at 100-120km/h gets me 240-260km per tank, ergo 4500-5500=happy cruise. Around town if no throttle required I sit at 3000-3500. Don't lug yer baby, it just shakes and gargles fuel. (I have often wondered if that shake factor due to lugging is an aid to the loosening of the oil filter that some have suffered)
  18. Mike Arman sold loads of paperback guides in the 70's and 80's dealing primarily with the Harley and its modifications. I know the target market was much larger but after reading Pete's review of the V11 bevel box with "Colin the Chook", I wouldnt hesitate to purchase a book or guide written by the man. Maybe a technical aide, hop up hints, experiences from Loop thru CARC. Not another Guzziology but more performance oriented, with some of his witicisms interspersed. That would be a fine addition to the Guzzi library.
  19. Once, after an incredible journey with a deep woman in the shallows, or was it a shallow woman in the depths. I trout I was invincible and dreamed of a life on land.
  20. Nice trout! although I have to admit, woman do taste better
  21. Did the fuel elbow crack again? Or is it time for a new engine configuration?
