  1. Here's the one I've been looking for.. finally.. the last one. Put it on the form die.. 2016-08-31_05-14-34 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr Apply 20 tons.. 2016-08-31_05-15-37 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr Ta daa 2016-08-31_05-15-06 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr Still have to clean, bead blast, and chromate. That'll take a day at least. I've decided you guys are working me too hard so I'm taking a few days off and riding the Mighty Scura to the Ohio rally. I'll get these out next week.
  2. I *think* it's just a re balance.
  3. Alright everyone, listen up. If I've replied in an email or here and said you were in line for one, send me an email with your snail mail address. I'll give you mine and Paypal account if you want to do that. Paypal, personal check, barter for beer.. I'll send the extenders out as soon as I finish them up.
  4. Sorry, but there was an earlier email at 5:59 last night.
  5. You are in line for one from your post on page one of this thread. Oops, I have an email from you for 2, the wrong address *did* go through. Some things aren't meant to be understood.
  6. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Last time I tried to visit you -- on a Guzzi, I might add! -- at that airshow, they wouldn't let me in, so I think this is all an excuse for you and your girlfriend to have a weekend. I'm telling, too. Bill no no, Bill.. that was the National Antique airplane fly in, the week before the Midwest fly in. I could have gotten you in if I'd have known, of course.
  7. Well, when you promise to make something longer... and the effect is greater power and precision with up and down motion... and it enhances the riding experience... Not only longer for 4 hours but forever.. What was I thinking? Two left up for grabs..
  8. Looks like first class postage will be around $3 to the continental US. International somewhere between $15-20, depending on where. I can take PayPal or check. Don't send any money until you have them in your hand and we know how much it cost to ship. Back to turning the crank..
  9. Eeeks! More people want these than I expected. I scrounged around in my "good airplane junk" pile, and found enough 4130 to make 5 more. That'll be 19 total. 15 are already spoken for. I'll make them until stock runs out, but don't plan on making any more right now. It kinda reminds me of work.. I've had 60 years (!) of that, and I'm officially retired.
  10. I'd really like to attend, but it's at the same time as the Midwest Antique Airplane fly in. It's a chance for me to hang out with the Kid and play airplane. Rats. So many toys and things to do, so little time.
  11. Shirley a robot wouldn't pick up 59.Chuck at Gmail dot com? Send me your contact info and I'll get em out as soon as they come off the presses. I'll send Lucky Phil one, but it'll be red. Everyone else gets zinc chromate primer. I'll check with the post office tomorrow for US delivery charge. I have enough stock to make 14. My guess is that will be the first and probably only run of them.
  12. Ok, went for a ride. Lucky Phil was right. I don't think I've ever had a better shifting bike after doing the mods. I have 300 miles of local riding on the flat ground shifter pawl, and no hint of the lever sticking down, either. What's not to like? Unfortunately, that $50 price for the extender is as cheap as I can make them. Most of my work is machining engineering plastic and aluminum. I'd sort of forgotten how long it takes to cut 4130. If you want one, send me an email with your contact info. But wait!! There's more! For only $100, I'll send you two and won't increase the shipping and fondling. Operators are standing by.
  13. Ok, I have the first one mounted on the Mighty Scura, and it works without issue. Haven't ridden it yet, though.. the lunch whistle just went off. I know you're not going to want to hear this, but changing out the lever is greatly facilitated by removing the starter. That means gaining access to the inaccessible nut that holds the reservoir bracket. When I did this last time, I tried several ways and several wrenches to get to that sucker. This is the only way I could do it, and it's not a bad job if you do it this way. 2016-08-28_11-19-44 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr Just a plain combination wrench..turn the screw until it slides onto the nut. I'll go for a ride after lunch and see if all this has been worth it.
  14. Nice. Hammers? I gots em. Lots of em. You don't build metal airplanes without hammers.
  15. Well, I'll have one if nobody else does. The 20 ton press I have was *just* enough to do that bend. Managed to get one picture uploaded before my gerbil powered ISP started creeping along again. It'll have two holes.. same location as the top of the factory one, and one 12mm above. Still a little sweetening of the code to do. 2-003 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr Even a blind hawg finds an acorn now and then..
  16. I'll finish the tooling this afternoon. With any luck at all, I'll have the first part.. but.. when you are forming sheet metal what the math says and what actually happens isn't always the same. If it isn't it will be back to square one on the machining fixture.
  17. Ok, I'll make the form die today.
  18. I have a little spare time, and am looking into this. The easiest way is just to weld an extension on the original.. I think that's what Phil did. If there's enough interest, I'll make a form tool and new levers out of 4130 with the 12mm extension on the CNC mill. How much would I have to charge? Dunno. I guess it depends on how many I make, but it Shirley wouldn't be over $50. Reply here or send an email to 59.Chuck Gmail.com 2016-08-24_03-08-08 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr
  19. *I don't know* but I've always taken pains to not do something like that.
  20. Excellent work Chuck. Try the shift lever arm extension mod ( I mean its an hours work to a bloke with your skills and equipment) and it will be another giant leap in performance. Ciao My material supplier is not getting it here, so I'm having a look at making some of these while I'm waiting. Unfortunately, it's not just an hours work. I'll have to make a form die to put the bend in the arm. I *could* just make it out of flat stock and put a spacer between the shifter and shift arm, but that wouldn't be very elegant, would it now? I have some 1/8" 4130 just like you make airplanes with, so I have stock. I don't have a plating shop available any more.. central Indiana manufacturing went in the tank 20 some years ago. Probably just have to zinc chromate them with a rattle can and rattle can them red for Lucky Phil. Indicating the hole/slot locations and transferring them to cad.. 2016-08-24_11-26-37 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr
  21. Tough call, but it couldn't hurt to try. I'm looking at making some Lucky Phil extenders as we type. Smoothing up the shift pawl might help, too.
  22. Maybe. Ya know, it *shouldn't* be necessary to put a steenkin hose clamp on the filter. I know that UFIs had some *issues* with their gaskets (I had two when I was using up my stock) and there have been tales of UFIs leaking at the crimp. I had one of those, too.. on the Norge. So. I have been fat, dumb, and happy using the Bosch 3330 and no hose clamp. I lube the gasket, turn it as tight as I can by hand, and then use a wrench to get another 3/4 of a turn. Now, I'm a little concerned. This is the first time I've heard of any filter *other* than a UFI coming off. If I *knew* Craig didn't tighten it enough, I'd feel better.
  23. Uh oh. It'll be fine. Just use SG rated oil.
