  1. The tappet is case hardened. That means it is hardened only a few thousandths of an inch deep. Once worn through that layer (for whatever reason) wear accelerates geometrically. At any rate, this is calling for new cam, lifters, a look at the oil pump, cleaning the galleries, the whole enchilada. Not fun, but necessary, or you'll be doing it again...
  2. By the time you do it again you will have forgotten how well the secret for me was to have it on a work stand. When it was sitting on the wheels, the u joint closed up just enough to keep the nozzle from going in.
  3. Me, too. I also *love* the "driftless region". Some of my best days on a motorcycle have been spent there. Now, all you need is a "project" to keep you interested during the winter, and your assimilation will be complete. Eat more cheese..
  4. According to a couple of guys that have "seen behind the curtain" at Guzzi days, new and exciting stuff *is* on the horizon. I'm happy with Rosie, though..
  5. Give Todd a ping or call at MPH. They have a plug and play fix for around 20bux. Cheap, easy.
  6. I lost mine a few years ago, the screw is left hand thread, IIRC, Can't say I've had any internal fuel line popping off on the Nero, are you refering to the one that attaches to the filter/pump body? Yeah, the fuel line comes off the nipple on the Norge and Cal Vin. If it's not an issue with the V11S, maybe that's why I haven't found any threads on it here.. Thanks, guys..
  7. Thanks for that, Mike. It looks like there is a very small Phillips way down there after cleaning all the detritus out of it. I'll probably get one chance at it. Is *this* screw LH or RH? I'll squirt some AeroKroil down in there and wait until tomorrow. Now. About the internal fuel line. Problem or no on the LeMans?
  8. Hi Chuck, Your know that trip odometer unscrews clockwise? Bob Right. It won't unscrew. I'm guessing that the DPO put some lock tite, JB weld, or something like that on it. He tended to bodge things.. So. Does the hose clamp and fuel line on the fuel pump need to be addressed like on the other internal fuel pump bikes like the Cal Vin, Norge, etc?
  9. the Rosso Corsa.. Her Speedometer is showing 12xxx miles, and is a replacement, according to the original owners (RIP)son. I was going to do a preemptive strike, burn a couple of holes in the case, and grease it. However, the trip reset knob won't unscrew. Am I screwed? Just wait until it fails and replace it with a VDO or something? I've searched here, and can't find a thread on whether the V11S internal fuel pump hose pops off like the Cal Vin, etc. Is it not a problem? TIA.
  10. Why? If I want to go somewhere, I'll take the LeMans. I've said before that I've had 2 Beemers, but I'm a slow learner. That's why they make all kinds, of course, but *in my opinion* BMWs, especially airheads are about as much fun as watching grass grow. No offense intended.. no offense taken. what i said is *need* to go somewhere. my RS will go 275 miles before needing fuel. it has large hard luggage & i can load it down like a packhorse.(good alternative to taking the car) i live where it rains. a LOT. it has a great fairing. and it is very comfortable for traveling long distances at a high rate of speed. and it is very reliable. and i agree, it can be quite boring. that's why i have the Le Mans. most of my riding is for fun, i'll ALWAYS take the LeMans for that. and i've done much more riding since i've owned it. i hope i've answered the question. sorry about hijacking the thread. regards, stef Completely understood, Stef.. in my advancing years, I can't sit on a bike for more than 2 hours at a stretch, so the Rosso has plenty of range for me. Thats why they make all kinds. I sold the Norge that was a *great* all weather mile eater because I wasn't having fun with it..
  11. Now THATS what we're talking about..

  13. First.. you say that when you take the jumpers off the bike dies. That *probably* means that the battery in the bike is completely toast. Now. Don't do that again. If the bike's battery can't absorb the spike in voltage that the alternator puts out, it can smoke the ecu. (computer) Expen$ive. The battery in a VllS will not be cheap. Because it has to lay down, it needs to be a gel or AGM. If OC in your address means Orange County, Kalifornia.. you're in luck. There are many knowledgeable dealers and riders in SoCal. I'll be out in South LA in a couple of weeks..
  14. Thanks. That's where I'm leaning. I was concerned about the paint, too. I've read the issues but can't tell how significant they are. One year newer and 20K fewer miles makes sense to me but I wanted to make sure I'm not missing something special about the LM (vis a vis a BMW R90S much more sought after than R90 or R100). Ride a LeMans and a R90S back to back, and you'll throw rocks at the Beemer. Well, I would, anyway. I have a hot rodded 02 Scura and an 03 Rosso Corsa, and can say that the only difference between the two is the weather protection. If you like the weather protection on the R90S, you'll love the LeMans. Depends on what you want to do with it.
  15. When I first came on here and used the search it seemed to give me 200 unrelated posts. Finally realized you needed to use relevance on the search..
  16. The only problem I had on Rosie was getting one of those electrical connectors apart. Apparently,it had never been unhooked, and it gave me a battle.
  17. Ahhh, you saw through my plan..
  18. I fell in love with the Greenie when I first saw one. My son has one, it has cans, crossover, PC3, and brass temp sensor holder. Runs really well.
  19. Well, it certainly *could* be. You can see that the short one is either cut or broken on one end. From a production standpoint, a defective shift drum is more unlikely.. So. Have you tried the longer spring? If it shifts fine on the bench, it'll shift even better when installed..
