  1. My PCIII works great and my custom map was $180.00. I gather that some people have luck with the downloadable maps, but I didn't. My guess is that the Guzzi is simply not a hyper-precision machine that would allow for maps from one bike to work perfectly on another. But I suppose they can get you in the ballpark. No bigee. I say go custom. It's worth it.
  2. Don't call me a sissy until you've read John Fante!
  3. Shucks. And I was savin' up all my lunch money! I'm up to seventeen bucks already. Oh well. You, uh, probably made the right decision.
  4. Such is life. We did get along, but as we spent more time together, his anti-Semitic rants became more pronounced and I got sick of it. I tried to talk with him about it in a reasonable manner, but no luck. I don't want to go into the guy's personal business, so I'll just leave it at that. That being said, I definitely appreciate V11 Forum and Wildguzzi, which both have good moderators and keep things civil. Don't get me wrong. I like a good debate as much as anyone, but some people just don't seem capable of it. Antonio, I am not sure what you mean by this, but I'm guessing you're asking if I'm making a joke. No, I'm afraid I'm not. Cheers.
  5. Happy New Years from your token cruiser, MM.
  6. Not kidding. After listening to his racism for a year I finally called him on it pretty hard. I figured that if he felt free to say all that stuff (over and over again) then I should be free to challenge it. Evidently not. He banished me from his site. So that is that. I used to give him the benefit of the doubt, now I just doubt the benefit.
  7. Speaking of free speech, I am actually banned from Enzo's forum. I cannot view or post. I challenged his racism and evidently this was crossing the line. Oh well. I guess some types of free speech are more free than others.
  8. I've alway enjoyed Asimov's robot novels: Caves of Steel; The Naked Sun; Robots of Dawn. I wish they had actually filmed these instead of the recent I Robot.
  9. This may be only a rumor, but last I heard, she got rid of the Guzzi and bought a horse.
  10. I was told that they were so low for old people in old cars. I know from, uh, experience that an MC rider can comfortably take corners at double the posted speed limit.
  11. I only practice them because I had an uncle whose clutch cable snapped while riding on the freeway. He managed to get off the road by yanking the cable to shift, but it still put the fear of god into him.
  12. This is how I do it: Quickly decrease the throttle to take the load off the gears, when the weight has shifted forward a bit, click into the next gear and re-accelerate. I don't do this much, as my 5-speed Stone box has a wider gear range than the V11 Sport and this makes it difficult to have smooth transitions. But I do like to practice incase my clutch cable ever snaps.
  13. Ouch, Dave, sorry to hear that. And sorry to hear that you've decided to get rid of the Guzzi. I wish I had the money to buy it. Oh well.
  14. Ray, I took a ride this weekend with the new PC III map and here are my mpg results. I got around 35.7 mpg, which is up from the 32-33 mpg I was getting. Not bad. I was actually worried for a while after the trip odo hit 140. My fuel light usually comes on at about 120, so I wondered if it was burned out. I knew I could at least get to 150 miles with the old map, so at 140 I was sure hoping I was getting better mileage.
  15. I got my dyno last night. I didn't get a print-out because George shut everything down while I was on my test ride. So, I don't have exact numbers. But I watched the whole time, and if memory serves, I peaked at 70hp and 65 torque -- I don't know at what rpm's though. Not bad for a bike like mine.
  16. Have y'all seen these? http://www.mphcycles.com/Mirrors-MGoodies.htm
  17. I have an appt. with Dean on 10-22. He's a good guy. A racing bike guru.
  18. Seattle is a great town to own a Guzzi in. We have Montointernational, with Dave Richards -- who wrote the book on Guzzi. We also have Greg Fields -- who, uh, also wrote the book on Guzzi. We have Bob Nolan, who has had a lifetime of Guzzi adventures and even fabricated a snazzy 3 wheeler out of one. And finally, we have the world infamous Guzzi satyr, Enzo.
  19. Now I'm really confused. If you pull in the clutch, you disengage the engine -- and this makes the bike move? I'm not trying to be an ass, but my bike doesn't have this and I'm trying to figure this out.
  20. Forgive my ignorance, but, what the heck are y'all talking about. There is a clutch cut off switch? How does it work, or not work?
  21. I will be getting a dyno within the next week or two, depending on when my dyno guy gets his soundproof room finished. I'll post the results and we can see how well a modified cruiser compares with a sport.
  22. Have you considered sanding out the scratches yourself and then powdercoating the covers?
  23. I like the Throttle Boss, even more than the Throttle Rocker. It works great for cruising -- effortless. I just rest my palm on it and stretch my fingers.
