  1. maybe it's a good thing that others aren't thinking along the same lines !
  2. I knew it! Dave Laing!
  3. But, I thought you liked that sort of thing?!?!
  4. It's all completely different, with custom made tank and bodywork, all a different shape to the original – and narrower.
  5. Ok. Own up. Who was driving the giant SUV?
  6. Paranoid – moi? That's what he said! He said parking-lot! That's what he said!
  7. No I don't like the paint design either. I was referring to the parts mods because there has been some talk over the past year about whether clip-ons would work ok on this bike. For aesthetics, Barbacane's fabulous Zero set the aspirational bar (no pun intended): though who knows how it handles? I haven't checked again – the race Grisos must have clip-ons, but that's different from lugging the thing around in variable road conditions. Something like the Zero is out of reach as it's so heavily (i.e. expensively) modded. This EZ bike doesn't appear to have any body mods up front, so it's interesting that it has the clip-ons. And a couple of views of the Zero again:
  8. I emailed yesterday to ask for more info on their bars. The small web pictures don't show clear detail. However I've also found Barracuda and Rizoma risers on the web now, which, if they are exactly the right size, would be a better bet to try out.
  9. and an exhaust without the stock u-bend / sharp kinks Unlike the Zero, something like this version could be achievable.
  10. Thanks very much Pete, for the great offer. I've emailed the dealer about the recall work, to see when it can be done, and I'll have them do the map upgrade at the same time. If there's a big delay or other problems, I'll get back to you to enquire about the swap.
  11. well, in fact, JR, that's one of the characteristics that is already present and I hope can be 'improved' on. With the open pipe fitted, the low speed drivability of the motor took a big hit. At first I considered it dangerous, as the bike would surge, hiccough and stall when pulling out of junctions or going through roundabouts. Opening the throttle slowed the bike down and often killed it, with accompanying bangs and backfires like a gunfight at OK Corral. The situation has improved. That's partly because I drive it differently to compensate: but it has also been said that the O2 sensor – ECU learns over time and adjusts itself. I find it hard to believe that it does learn over a lengthy period and so improves over weeks. Is it true? I would think that the electronic brain-box 'just works' and does what it does instantaneously. Does it really learn?
  12. No. I enquired with someone in case there would be a possibility, but time didn't allow. Have you been to the museum / factory? In the couple of visits that I've had to the city, I have seen few motorbikes on the road there... but hundreds and hundreds of scooters buzzing around and parked in packs.
  13. Hey Ant... I was in Italia (Bologna) but it rained and rained and was cold , cold , cold ,
  14. Good day folks. I've been away since last week and just arrived back in the early hours of this morning. I see that Jaap has put the Moderator thing in place now, so after I go and do some actual housekeeping, I'll return to this place and attend to the virtual housekeeping. Any Daytonas found parking here-abouts will be confiscated!
  15. It's a Woodpecker, I tell you. You're thinking of having a Schwinn between your legs (150valvole – impressive, I grant you.)
  16. You'll find quite a few posts on the 8V motor around here. In particular, you can look at the Forum that's been added on down the Board here: http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showforum=36 There are a few pics and video here: http://www.v11lemans.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=14386 (So now I'm doing the CARC Moderator's job! I thought you were paying someone for this Jaap? )
  17. It IS wrong. And the more you know about Howard, the more wrong it is. Be grateful that you know no more. If it was Iggy, it would be so right, in a very wrong kind of way.
  18. Judging by your two posts here, I'd say that you're fluent in Ullans, or Ulster Scots, too. Can you come over here to the meeting in May to fulfill the post of Rally Translator And Right Thran Skitter? It would be a great service to the English and other foreign gentlemen attending. To be sure that you are capable, let me know your score: http://www.ulsterscotslanguage.com/en/texts/test/ Ah, here's one just for Jaap dake dyke: the low bank of earth, stones, etc., usually planted with hawthorn, which bounds roads and borders fields. as thick as a dake – having an extremely surly temperament. dake-bak – the side of a dyke (esp. that away from the road). lake snow aff a dake – (going) rapidly and without trace (e.g. of money during a time of high inflation). stane dake – a dry stone wall. (Also dyke.) Useful phrase in motorcycling company: 'bejabbers boys, he flu lak a Dutch Gutsy doon a dake'
  19. When I saw the photo of Paul's new bars, I wondered if those were the standard risers on the Sport and if they would fit the Griso. They looked short. ?
  20. I think that they will make one for anything. But as I found out, there are problems in being the guinea-pig for prototypes. I had / have both fitting and performance 'issues'. Best wait until a few have been made and hopefully the problems get sorted.
  21. I've looked around for options (on the web). I'd like to try lower, straightforward risers, if I could find the right size. That would be an easier first step than changing the complete bars. It's hard to know. General opinion I've seen, not just about Griso, is that highish, wide bars are a good thing on a big bulky bike like this. I won't know 'til I try something else, but obviously the stock set-up does give more control than something lower, narrower. I've easily recovered from front and rear wheel slides and always wondered what would have happened with a different set-up giving less leverage. For example, on the 2nd Portaferry video, the road out of town was all fresh, loose gravel. On a couple of different tight corners the front went away on the gravel. When riding those sorts of roads, I really don't want to lose the whole plot, so keeping the stock set-up makes sense. The time that I really wanted a lower set-up was riding with Baldini and Martin in Scotland. It was continuously, head-down fast and I was always being blown back with those bars and no screen. In practical (and comfort) terms the V.11 was the faster bike for sustained speed. But that sort of riding with others only happens once a year – at most.
  22. Haggis, of course! You guys have to bring a supply over!
  23. No, not that sort of tank, this sort: Wow! watch out for the underground tank and the jet-propelled tank! Oh, the life of a Russian tester is a jolly one. Or not.
  24. Links to video of the exhaust that I fitted to the Griso 8V have been posted elsewhere. This is really the proper place, so I'll put a link here. Others may want to add to the thread with pics, video, charts etc. Video of GT Rx open pipe. Reverse megaphone. There is a short clip and a couple of runs: with open pipe and with pipe-end db killer insert. Good quality vids here Youtube
  25. Sporty. Looks neat, clean and it all works well as a package. Good job. Can you add a link to the thread where you described what all you did?
