  1. I didn't manage to get a Ram clutch-I ordered one early May. I've got a second hand twin plate flywheel and pressure plate on the way. The rest will be new. It's been a very long wait.   3. I'm switching from a single plate clutch on a Le Mans Tenni to a twin plate clutch. Can anyone tell me if they use the same clutch push rod? The part number for the twin plate clutch push rod is 010 08 57 30. I haven't come across a number for the existing single plate clutch push rod. My current push rod is 8mm in diameter at the clutch end and 203mm in length. On the gearbox side the push rod has a shoulder 5mm from the end and the diameter at the gearbox end is 6mm. I've read a couple of old posts, but there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer. Thanks Simon
  4. Hi Steve, I share your reservations about breaking a good bike, but they are certainly worth more in parts. A couple of months ago there was a very nice Ballabio in the North West on Ebay with less than 20 000 miles that went for around £2700. Breaking it would have brought a whole lot more. I bid, but missed out on, a complete V11 clutch on German Ebay that went for around £300. I did manage to get a new clutch centre from Italy for the 2 plate clutch. I paid a supplier for the Ram clutch back in May so I've been tied to waiting for this up to now. I've been waiting a long time. Do let me know if you decide to break your bike. Cheers Simon
  5. Hi, that link is a complete replacement kit, if you can get one. The alternative is a second hand V11 2 plate clutch or new 2 plate clutch (pricey at around £1500 for the parts needed). As far as I know replacement plates and clutch centres are 'available' for the Ram kits if these wear. I'm not sure 'how' available they are. My, so far fruitless, search has done wonders for my language skills. I know the word for clutch in several languages from repeated Ebay searches. There are lots of threads on this site that I have found useful. Probably easier to search through Google. Simon
  6. I'm carrying my spring with a rabbit's foot, a horseshoe, and a four-leaf clover. Seriously, I'm hoping it lasts a bit longer so I can do a pre-emptive spring repair while I replace the flywheel and do the engine paint (due to bubbling). That's the Scura trifecta... Of course, the trifecta only pays out if you guess the order. Engine paint has already crossed the line... spring and flywheel are running neck-and-neck. Did you manage to lay your hands on a Ram replacement clutch kit? My supplier's estimate of 5 weeks was optimistic. If the rest of the bike is fine and in good condition, might it be worth seeing if you can pick up some second hand parts from a breaker or Ebay? 100 000 isn't a lot of miles for a BMW like this. They made quite a few of those bikes so parts should be relatively easy to come across. Imagine the sense of satisfaction of bringing something dead back to life.

  10. Not sure to be honest. Gutsibits and parts diagram suggested there should be gaskets, but header flanges appear to be nicely machined flat and there was no sign of any 'blowing' without gaskets. I got some, but maybe they're not essential.
  11. I took my header pipes off recently (Le Mans Tenni) There weren't any gaskets in there either. Doesn't help you much with your splutter though. I had a major splutter when I picked it up. Throttle cable had come off the rounded cam on the left. Rode home 150 miles with the throttle operated by the TPS. It was a relief to spot something so simple.   12. While the flywheel is the main problem, the reality is that you can't get your clutch operating without a complete Ram unit or a set of replacement parts for a twin plate. Either option is expensive Even if you had faith with your alloy freewheel, you couldn't buy a friction plate for it. Guzzi should be making replacement parts-they made and sold the bikes, they should give customers back up with parts. Clutches are consumables and you cannot replace like for like as things stand. The flywheel is a very simple part. It would take someone at Guzzi an afternoon to design and make a replacement part, from steel if necessary. It really isn't good enough that basic parts are not available at a reasonable cost.
  13. I've been told that the correct Ram clutch can be sourced, but again it involves a wait of around 5 weeks. It's a bit frustrating, especially given the fact that I've only ridden around 1000 miles on the bike. Whether you go for the Ram unit or the twin plate option, it really shouldn't be this difficult or expensive to source a clutch on what is a relatively recent bike (2002-2003). Clutches are consumables. Guzzi should be making a like for like replacement for the single clutch. I've had less trouble getting parts for my 1973 Ducati single than for this. I'll keep you updated with any progress.
  14. Do a search on tank swelling. Mine has done the same. I've currently got it empty and ventilated in the hope that it will shrink a little while I'm waiting for a new clutch.
  15. An artwork might be a more fitting purpose. It isn't very good as a fly wheel. I may well end up with a twin plate. I was told about the Ram unit-it seemed the closest match to the original and the cost was probably less than sourcing the parts for a twin plate. I like your rabbit phrase. I don't want to do that...
  16. Well, that was a false dawn. It would appear that I've been sent the wrong clutch. The clutch centre has a finer spline-maybe from a 5 speed? Also, the diameter of the cup for the pushrod is too narrow to accomodate the pushrod. Not sure which model it is for. I did clean up the old clutch and the alloy flywheel does appear to have a fine crack or maybe two starting to appear, which may be a worry for Tenni and Scura owners. The bike has only done a verifiable 15 000 miles.
  17. Got the new Ram clutch in the post. New one is heavier than the original. 4.8 kg compared to 4.17kg. Alloy flywheel looks smaller, but the starter ring and the pressure plate seem more substantial. Hopefully get the engine back in over the next few days.
  18. I'm still waiting for the clutch to arrive, but I've got the socket to remove the clutch spline. Am I right in thinking that putting the gearbox in gear, and some weight over the rear wheel, and loosening it that way is ok?
  19. I've ordered the RAM unit myself. I'll hopefully receive it shortly. From what I was told, the company that make them rely on Moto Guzzi to manufacture some of the parts. Not sure which parts, but it would explain the limited availability. I got myself a 2008 BMW F800S locally so that I'd still have a bike on the road while waiting to do the clutch, so at least I can enjoy the improving weather.
  20. I'm awaiting delivery of a replacement, but I did think of this. You don't hear about it much with regard to motorcycle clutches. It's normal to replace the pressure plate and spring, but these must still be serviceable after so few miles. The alloy flywheel looks unmarked, though I haven't had it tested in any way.
  21. I replaced the breather recently on my Le Mans Tenni. I did have to remove/loosen some wiring and electrics to get the hose connected at the front as space is pretty tight. It's probably quicker and easier to take things off and refit rather than struggle. I struggled first, then removed stuff.
