  1. Ron is all set. I'm kind of surprised too. I thought I'd be living with a bag of springs for a while longer.
  2. Update... I'm down to two springs available for sale. I'm keeping one with Chuck's engineering diagram in case we need to make another batch someday.

  4. so... I just happened to find a 250-bolt kit for a 701 Husqvarna. It's by Fast Metric - you might contact the company to see if they know how to put a kit together for a V11. https://www.ebay.com/itm/250pc-HUSQVARNA-Bolt-Kit-for-701-ENDURO/152542811910?fits=Make%3AHusqvarna&hash=item2384429706:g:QesAAOSwrhBZDO2V

A later "document holder" will not fit the earlier tail section. The tail sections are totally different too - even the rear subframes that the tails (and pockets) mounts, too, are different. With the earlier tail, the pocket comes off with the tail section. With the later tail, the pocket stays on the frame and tail has to be slid over the pocket for removal or installation.
  6. ^with friends like you, who needs financial advisors? Good thing I have business travel and a family vacation that take me out of state almost the whole month... so no worries about being tempted.
  7. I'm down to one V11 and a cabinet full of parts.... Kind of regret trading my red LeMans for the Ducati ST3 sometimes... The ST3 is for sale, but I rode it 400 miles yesterday including two passes through the Santa Monica Mountains - and it is a fabulous bike. Love 'em all, can't afford to keep 'em all. I'm enjoying the Stelvio and the Husqvarna 701 the most right now since there are so many dirt-road diaries to be written. (country song reference)
  8. Dave - have you ever considered an Aprilia Tuono? They catch my eye periodically and I think the older ones are reasonably priced. Here's one near me: a 2008 for $2,750 - needs tires and battery. https://inlandempire.craigslist.org/mcy/d/wildomar-2008-aprila-tuono/6894426377.html
  9. ...and my prior Greenie is available from its current owner. This is a great bike with an Ohlins shock. I did a lot of work while I had it, including resealing the gearbox and installing the supplemental transmission brace. https://inlandempire.craigslist.org/mcy/d/murrieta-2001-moto-guzzi-v11-sport/6892875711.html
  10. Here's a red/grey 2002 LeMans with 18,000 miles with a $2,800 asking price. It's within 45 minutes of my house. https://sandiego.craigslist.org/esd/mcy/d/ramona-moto-guzzi/6919262532.html
  11. Knowing the budget is very useful for this thread so we don't tell you things like "go buy a Husqvarna 701 SuperMoto." The ST3 has a unique motor - as I understand it, it's basically the 1000DS motor with a cool 3-valve head. I think it's the only 3 valve head that Ducati has made. Mine's on Craigslist with a $3,600 asking price and no bites... Tell us more about what you want to do with the new addition. Do you want a reliable commuter... something cool and different to tinker with... what?
  12. Congratulations. I love going off road, which I why I bought the Stelvio and why my Ducati ST3 is available. I enjoyed the ST3 very much and am still riding it a bit while waiting for the right buyer. Send me a message if you're interested. I'm a motivated seller. But what should YOU do? Maybe you should take a look at the Ducati Hypermotards. It gives you the upright seating of the "SUV bikes" and similar or better performance than the Monster (since there are a lot of different Monsters). So many great deals on used bikes... so little time.
  13. I might have all that, but will need to check to be sure. I'll be home Saturday. If I do, it's all powdercoated black.

Yeah, I got the Forma's, size 10. They were huge on me so I returned them. Otherwise they look like great boots. I might try a 9, but I have a very narrow foot and I don't think the 9 will be much narrower than the 10. So I might try a similar style by Klim - the Outlander GTX. I have also worn regular hiking boots on adventure rides, which are comfortable, but don't offer much in the way of impact protection. Ya gotta tuck the laces in so as to not get caught up on the footpegs and fall down... voice of experience.
  15. I looked longingly at my Scura while I cleaned up the dirt bikes. She's been idle too long and I need to devote some time to learning electricity stuff.
  16. Caught some snow on Monday (Memorial Day Weekend) in the Eastern Sierra Nevadas. Even managed to catch an 18-inch rainbow trout... and some quality time with my youngest daughter. She and my wife both want to learn to ride now, so I think I might be looking for a small dual sport like a Yamaha TW200 or XT225.
  17. I just organized the garage a bit today... to respond to some of the above questions: Fairing is gone. I still have the forks - will connect via email per above. I suppose I should make a list of what's still in the pile (actually file cabinet at this point). As far a "desirable bits" go... I have a front wheel with new bearings, a swingarm with new bearings, a front fender, rear hugger (no end-caps). I do have the pork-chops and all the other stuff I had powder-coated candy-apple red. I'm sort of thinking to hold on to those for some future project... but would sell all the candy-apple stuff as a set.
  18. Hey, don't give up. Longer bolts and some spacers would make that work over the tank pad. @ Rotbox - Your mix of 3 bikes is very similar to mine. Very different purposes for each. Please "prattle on" about the Africa Twin in the above referenced thread. I've been "prattling on" about my Husqvarna 701 Enduro and my Stelvio for a while.
  19. I would assume you bypass the clutch switch... but pray tell: why were you using a screwdriver to start the bike?
  20. Could be an FAQ: WTF is the deal with Single Plate Clutches? The search functions, with AND (all caps) between words are quite helpful to find old, relevant posts. If I recall correctly, I searched "ram AND weight AND aluminum". I knew I had posted a picture of all three clutch possibilities sitting on a scale.
  21. I would not drill the steel RAM flywheel. I think it behaves basically the same as the aluminum one that I removed from my Scura. While the new RAM unit weighs a bit more, the mass is more centralized as it has three spokes, not a full circle. And it only weighs about 1 pound more (not 1 kilo). Here is a link to a post I made a while back comparing the three clutches: back
  22. The original view of Neanderthals was that they were inferior to homo sapiens, but of course, that idea was created by homo sapiens. Neaderthals actually had larger brains (along with stockier builds) than homo sapiens. The DNA report indicated that my two strongest Neanderthal genetic markers show that I have LESS back hair than most people, and that I am less likely to sneeze after eating dark chocolate. Both true. I am not particularly hirsute, nor I do ever recall sneezing after eating dark chocolate - didn't even know that was a "thing," Despite the research and emerging story that Neanderthals were skilled, social humans who were in many ways the equal of Homo Sapiens, I am still using it as an excuse to go to the snowy mountains as much as possible.
  23. I did the 23andMe DNA test and it mostly confirmed stuff I knew, because my family had kept good records going back to people who came to the US from England in the 1600s. But the big (and fun) surprise was that my quantity of Neanderthal DNA markers is in the top 2% of all people tested. I am totally using this as an excuse to go to the mountains any time I want. It's in my nature... have to get back to my roots... a cave-man has to build a fire... etc. On the intellectual side. I find it fascinating that my body contains evidence of interbreeding of two human species 40,000 years ago - which is one of the more important scientific findings in recent years (at least in the field of human evolution). Have any of you done a DNA test and did you learn anything surprising?

Jaap - how are those low boots for walking/hiking? After my recent trip to Utah, where I wore high motorcycle boots and packed hiking boots, I am seriously thinking about the Forma Adventure Low boots. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DW4SGQK?pf_rd_p=f3acc539-5d5f-49a3-89ea-768a917d5900&pf_rd_r=4QBRYD6EWZ36T7S69RWQ&th=1 One less pair of boots on a trip makes a big difference in the saddlebags...

Vanson leather jacket - with perforations and zip-up windblockers. Vanson leather roadrace pants - typically only for sporting rides, not commuting. I just sent my jacket back to Vanson for a zipper repair, which they did for free. They cleaned it and conditioned it too (also free). What a great company. Dianese - boots and gloves. Arai for helmets - they are usually the best fit for me. Totally different stuff for off-road riding. I wear a full impact rig and just got some Bohn padded pants to go under my Klim Dakar suit.
