Chuck Posted October 11, 2011 Share Posted October 11, 2011 Cross posted from WG.. Well, I finally met up with my good friend from Maine and delivered the V50 III to him at Vintage days at Barber's. Another member here had posted about a possible good deal on a Rosso Corsa a few weeks back, and I found out it was just off I65. That would be right on my way back from Barbers, and I would have an empty trailer.. My son Brad (greenie V11S) went with me, and we had a *great* time at Barber. I'd highly recommend it. I've been looking for a Nero or a Rosso for some time, so that seemed like a match that couldn't be passed up. I knew from what he said that it was a little rough, but was sound mechanically. Took a quick look and decided she needed to go home with me, flat tire and all. She started right up, though, and sounded really good with the titanium cans. Quite a few other farkles, too. She'd had a low speed encounter with the ground, and some damage on the left side that Brad and I mostly finished up today. Strangely enough, this was the plug on the *right* side.. and it still ran fine. Unfortunately, the previous owner had decided to add a back off brake light thingy and heated grips. This was how stuff was done. None of it worked, of course. We spent the day going through this and got the brake lights, license lamp, tail lights, and turn signals working. The rear brake line had somehow come loose, laid on the crossover, and eventually melted/chafed through it. Apparently that had heated up the fluid in the system enough to hold the rear pads against the rotor, and they are toast. The rotor is seriously blue, to boot. Didn't see that. Oh well... The shifter has been welded, but not in a way I can live with, so I need one of those, too. I'd hate to make one if I can buy one. We also cleaned up some cosmetic issues today, and she's coming around. So. I need a rear brake line and shifter to start with.. any leads on that? Took a quick look on MG and didn't see anything. docc Posted October 11, 2011 Share Posted October 11, 2011 A Rosso Corsa pulled behind a Rosso MINI! What a sight! I suppose a brake lever and a brake line might be had from some of the usual suspects like MI, MPH, Harper's. Otherwise, Joe Kenny makes some nice stuff and that lever as well. Baldini Posted October 11, 2011 Share Posted October 11, 2011 Good rescue! Nasty job on the wiring - good grief... The rear brake hose is held up by a clip on inside of swingarm. It's very flimsy welded on steel piece - bends easy - hose probably not retained. There have been a few V11's with overheating rear brakes & this could be cause of some of them. Will be a nice bike! I'll have to buy him a beer if we get together some time. Ran down to Indianapolis to Gasoline alley, and Earl's made an exact copy of the brake line for 20 bux. I am always amazed at what people are willing to live with instead of spending a few more dollars and doing it correctly...I mean really, even if this worked the instant after he 'finished' the job, it probably stopped working thirty seconds after the bike started rolling. That's probably about the right time frame. The lights on the back off came on, but that was it. No tail, brake, license, or turn signals. He'd decided to take power off the head light in the same way, but it still worked. What he was doing tapping into the turn signals, we'll never know. Oh, well.. no big deal. Onward! Well done for rescuing her from a terrible fate.
