  1. You're welcome, Gerhard, and it was no trouble, finding a good box for it was the biggest challenge, and I had one. Now I am prepared if and when someone buys the Mistral. Next stop, eBay I live just outside of Boston, there is quite some traffic at times, so I have to pick the right time to escape -- usually I head to western Massachusetts. The New England area has been in a drought since late spring, great for riding, not so great in other respects. With regard to the plague, I have had to change my riding plans to avoid crowds, so I pack food, water, and coffee on the bike and head for some scenic and peaceful spot, or meet a friend and ride. Yesterday I rode the Multistrada about 200 miles on back roads (two-lane blacktop) -- the Duc more storage space for supplies and for clothing layers what with changing weather and temperature. Keep riding! Kurt PS -- a great resource for riding in the Northeast: https://www.newenglandriders.org/b-o-n-e/

  2. Miss Greenie is leaving the basement next weekend and moving in here. Almost every hour of my spare time since July has been laid down. Tired and satisfied. Is it worth it? I don't know. The fact I didn't make it in time saddens me. But hey! Another summer is coming for most of us. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  4. We were in Mandello a dozen or so years ago for the first time, myself on my old T5, (still going strong with ALL its original electrics, never seen the valves or the pistons after 35 years and 120000 km) and my friend on his Rosso Mandello. Just after arriving in the Abbadia Lariana campsite we sat at the bar for a beer. This young lad in Guzzi overalls arrives and ask my friend: 'You want Ohlins? 100 euros!' He went out and came back with a brand new back shock. After getting his money he said:' Want another one?' and off he went for it. Northern Italy works in marvellous and mysterious ways!...

  9. I think it's just an evolution of the design. You know they design it all tight and close fitting then realise the tolerances are too tight and modify later seats. Don't know, it's Italian could be anything behind it and logic would probably be a long way down the list. Anyway both versions fit my 2000 year model bike. I actually made a metal strap extension for my battery strap because the amount of tension on a brand new rubber battery stray is insane. I made it from the front battery tray mount so that the rubber strap with its tab now sat flat adjacent to the front edge of the battery. Look really neat and had just the right amount of tension, except the seat wouldn't fit now. The earlier seat base is a VERY tight fit around the battery and ECU. Ciao

  12. I mean, you sorta think, it's the north...maybe some kind of semblance of organisation. That's the most industrial, functional part of the country, right? Ha. Must be completely maddening for dealers.

  14. Sorry I’ve been absent from my own thread, I’ve had a significant family emergency Involving my 1 yr old son and we’ve been focused on family and his survival. I now have a moment to get back to this after seeing him smile and be playful this evening that gives me hope! I’d like to focus this thread on selling this bike, even more so now with the unknown medical costs that lay ahead. I’s like to move discussion regarding the bar ends to a separate thread. Next moment of breathing room I’ll get a thread started. yes I do have bar ends that fit a Scura, these were originally designed for a Scura I was finishing for a buddy, and designed 2 version for the early vs late model.

  16. If you read the book I've mentioned you will realise what a waste of mental effort the reasoning in this post is. As an example Richardson talks of industrial crates loads of many, many hundreds if not thousands of cast parts for bikes that never made production and were never going to. Thats right, never going too. If you think you can apply some sort of logical reasoning to how the Italians run their operations with all the intricacies of not only family connections, political connections, political back room subsidies and local politics and unions then you are misguided. It's a total waste of mental energy and the only way to even understand 20% of it is you need to have a long standing and close personal relationship within these organisations. Dont waste anymore time in thinking, just buy the book and learn a few of the machinations and then you will understand how pointless trying to apply any logic here really is. "Oh they did this so they obviously had a plan for that" Nope. Had no plan at all, period. They had their castings done locally and someone owed someone or the local government needed the casting plant to stay open because a federal subsidy to maintain local employment hinged on it, etc, etc ,etc. Pick any scenario you can think of and then see why from Australia trying to apply Anglo logic is laughable. I've known people dealing with the Italians in business for 40 years, none of it surprises me anymore. How would you like to open a container of parts you ordered from Italy, went over there and personally negotiated with them and when the container arrives 25% of the contents are stuff you didn't order and have no hope of selling. Real oddball stuff of limited if any value. How did this happen? well because when the order was fulfilled and the container loaded some of the things weren't available, no stock. So what do you do? Its all paid for? well you just supply whatever other stuff you have around at the time to the same or similar value in your eyes and send it off. There's some logic for you to apply at a corporate motorcycle industry scale. Ciao

  17. I'm glad to read Mr Roper's opinions. I tend to agree with them. it would be nice if some of the Piaggio tech would find it's way to Mandello del Lario.

  18. I notice how it takes the Dr. John Wittners, the Erik Buells, the @#$$#! Fishers of this world to think far outside the box, to make progress with exciting, desirable motorcycles, and then to fade to obscurity after the powers that be stomp them out like a brush fire.

  20. Want. This is what Guzzi should be allowed to build. Not some sclerotic, wheezing, 2V air cooled shitbox.

  21. Tighter than a camel’s ass in a sandstorm. Joking aside, got no time to miss Greenie today. 11 hours work on «Temple of the Guzzi». Timber framing and truss is finished, so a good day. Now, IPA-time. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
