  1. I am sorry, but I have to say it: US Postal Services are really subpar! What is the point of providing tracking, if you can't get the basics right... the package was scheduled to be delivered on Saturday 27th. Then Friday, and now Monday. Even Amazon, that used to be fairly reliable, is now bombarding you with texts of changing delivery times, dates.
  2. This is a rare find; this is a cc from the Facebook Quota page. The lady is asking opinions about an ask price. The Quota maybe an odd choice for a side-car, but why not?
  3. After my night at "El Cosmico" in Marfa in 2023, I am apparently ready for just about anything.... Kidding aside, I also had a bed bugs experience in 2022 in a shabby motel around Coleman, where my neighbor had a fight with his fiancée in the middle of the night, threw her out of the bedroom, and she kept banging on his door for a long time after that.... I learned a few explicit words which I had never heard before. I think I am properly prepared to face the dreadful Cedar Vale lodge if it comes to that.
  4. I don't know if I proposed this one before, but it sure feels familiar...
  5. I am checking the Price Tower stay in availability as I type.
  6. I pencil this one too; also because I want to drop by Bartlesville OK, to visit REDA Pumps. https://www.slb.com/resource-library/article/2021/celebrating-90-years-since-the-creation-of-the-reda-pump-company-in-bartlesville-ok In 2000, I was assigned to the Esso Chad project, where oil extraction had to rely on down hole pumps from REDA. I got to interact with personnel from Bartlesville, some of them young enough to maybe still be there. Going quickly through their website, I can see the Electrical Submersible Pumps is no longer their core business, even if you can still find ESP products if you look: https://www.slb.com/products-and-services/innovating-in-oil-and-gas/completions/artificial-lift/electrical-submersible-pumps/agile-esp If my Quota is ready, and if the planets align, I would be interested, camping excepted. There is a "Cedar Creek Lodge" in the vicinity.
  7. This weekend, we have the Spanish Grand-Prix at Jerez. Many pundits, including the grand guru Jorge Lorenzo, have predicted that Pedro Acosta should get his first win. This would rob Marc Marquez of his title of the youngest's MogoGP winner ever. Me think that Marc is probably planning to not lose that benchmark. It will also be interesting to see how Francesco Bagnaia is going to perform, as he is now in a pickle in regard to his principal GP24 rivals. Last but not least, Maverick Viñales will probably need to confirm that his COTA performance was not an isolated effort.
  8. I don't know about the Englishman's pedantic narration. I like the well composed diction. I am unable to listen to anything when people try to squeeze as many words per minute as they can; maybe this is what they are trying to avoid? boring their audience? in my case, it has the opposite effect. That, the talking heads, don't forget to like and subscribe, my name is Gontrand. I am guessing that by now, the people watching YouTube understand the subscription and like button. In many cases, they forget that a video is to convey a message using images. Otherwise, it should be a podcast. My favorite, so far, are the guys "reacting" to a song, or a video, an event. It seems to be successful, because we have more and more of those too.
  9. When I was 16, with my motorcycle driver's license in my pocket, earned on a Honda CB350, came the tedious choice of picking a first motorcycle. When you are 16 your budget is obviously limited. There was that super large dealership, multi-brands, named Robo from the owner's name, Jean Robo; there, was one of the MV Agusta 750 S; I think it was three times the price of anything else. Yet, I walked the 30 minutes to and from every Saturday, salivating in front of all that splendor congregated under the same roof. I found a link containing photos and printed ads of the place. As can be seen, he was trading absolutely all the motorcycle brands, shameless... https://concessions.lesmordusdugalet.fr/index.php/ile-de-france/1127-antony-robo The dealership is long gone, but this was like going to EICMA every Saturday and sometimes Sunday mornings.... Almost all the bikes shown below, the vintage ones, must have been on sale at Robo at some point in time. Not the Bimota Tesi;
  10. Expected Delivery by Saturday 27 April 2024 by 9:00pm
  11. The company manufacturing them promised they would be ready on April 29th. As soon as I have an update, I will communicate it.
  12. I put two instead of 1+, since I set a counter that can only count numbers and not alphanumerical characters....
  13. Do not try to sign-in! If you can't get to input into the spreadsheet, close your V11 page and restart the site. If you have read or answered threads before getting to the input of the spreadsheet, it may have messed up the permissions
  14. I would definitively sleep at un hotel. Even if not juxtaposed to the event. There may also be some AirB&B opportunity.
  15. I received the Snugs-Moto and did a quick test run to Louisiana and back! I can only be dithyrambic about the experience. You can see they are personalized with my name engraved in the molding. 1st, they address the wind noise problem because they are before all plugs. Also, no more of the interference with the audio from said wind noise. You get crystal clear audio. I don't listen to music when I ride, only to the audio guidance from the GPS. My phone remains in my pocket. Now, I think Snugs-Moto have a very good setup, perfect for my application. No contraption on the side of my helmet. Although, I made a mistake while wearing them. I had left the speakers of my "Sharktooth" installed, and they pressed on my ears, which made the helix painful against the cartilage. I also had two disconnects: one with a seamless immediate reconnection, the second one, I had to stop and do a power off and on cycle to reconnect. The controls are on the "open dog collar", and not as easy to reach and manipulate as the Cardo and Sena that sit on your helmet. But as I don't use the controls other than before and after the ride, it is not an issue for me. Yesterday, Saturday 20th of April, I went to CycleGear and tried various full face helmets with the Snugs-Moto. I realized that they were much more comfortable, and I could not feel the Snugs while in them. So I removed the speakers in my Shark full face, and no more issue. Also, I don't think they are a mesh system. You would not be able to communicate with a pillion or other riders as other comm. allow.
  16. @Gmc28 riding in the cold on a motorbike is never going to be comfortable, whatever the crutches you use to improve the experience. I have never tried riding in the cold using heated grips, heated gloves, heated underwear, what not. My motto always was: rise to the occasion and take it like a man. I don't know if I would still be able to do it. As for ride modes, I never had any, and I always assumed the control I have of my right hand would suffice. I know that I should not be repulsed by technology, but I feel I don't need it, don't want it. Maybe I am stubborn, and it is very possible. But I always found riding in the cold exhilarating! I was in Alaska a few years ago, to see the Norther lights, and I was wondering how it would feel like riding my Guzzi in that kind of environment. At the time, I only had the V11. I am sure the Quota would not mind...
  17. If I was to succumb to the modern bike temptation, the V85 would most likely be the one. Not the V100s. I have no rationale explanation, but I think it resides with the cooling fins look of the older blocks. Thanks for the offer! I no longer drive test anything. I did not test drive the Quota, I just bought it. My philosophy about test drives is they don't tell you much more than what you can get from the numerous videos and reviews floating on the web. This was not true for the Quota though, but for that, I did not care as it was purely a subjective desire. I was going to like it, one way or the other. As for that part of Italy, it is surely "enchanteresque". I worked 10 years in Italy, North to South, East to West, but there was never any job close to the Como Lake. I was based in Milan for some of the years, but spent my time in the shanty places rather than the idyllic ones ;-)
  18. No. NY and other Burroughs. I remember waking to his adds during my jet-lag early rising. It worked. I purchased my rare Portable Commodore 64 from a Crazy Eddie in New-York.
  19. I would not assume they did because of that. From the little experience I have with forums (I used to be on many forums before they got extinct), if the members do not post, then there is less reason to check in because there is no traffic. The problem is compounded if there aren't many members. Take this forum for example. Some, but not all the traffic consists of people that only come here when they have an issue with their motorcycle. Some are one timer. Once their issue has received a reply, they leave. Other forumers post trivia so when members check-in, there is something they may want to read, or not. But it keeps the forum live. Such as posting about trips, or places, stuff. Try to gather attention so your forum is not a dead beat place. It is not easy. Nowadays, people do not like to write, they would rather watch a video, I am going for a ride today, so I don't have time to check your site. But I will later.
  20. Are you certain the two members quit because of the photo? I do not see anything offending, unless those members are extremely religious. When I was working in Libya, magazines with women in inappropriate outfits were automatically confiscated as prohibited to import. Staying afloat for a non "video" site is getting tougher nowadays. Even Facebook. Now, a lot of the discussions have migrated to Discord. I am on a Facebook Group for Moto Guzzi Quota, but it is not the same as this forum. When you make a post, only the first few answers are directly visible, else you need to click to reveal. There is no easy way to differentiate topics. It is just like a big box where you throw in everything. Not my type of information channel. Better than nothing.
  21. I went to look at a few motorcycles today, and I was mesmerized by the prices!!! we have now reached 25k and above for some of the models... that brought back memories of commercials I was seeing on TV in Manhattan in the 80's.... Really insane!
  22. Intendance, not "indendance". I made a spelling mistake. As strange as it may be, the French Rafale can refuel from US tankers, and land and launch from US aircraft carriers. They probably communicate by hand signals.... lol... Back to John Day meeting 2024!!
  23. I have penciled it on my calendar; it is not yet a firm "I shall be there" as I need to work out the logistics and "supply corps" of the trip. I am not certain "supply corps" is the exact translation for the French "Intendance" which is a military term. There also was another translation, such as Stewardship and Estate Management. If you have been in the military, you understand what it means.
