    I always watched MotoGP on European TVs, such as Servus TV or others who broadcast either with their own commentary, or using those from MotoGP.

    But I have stopped. Now I only tune in to those to discuss the races.

    This morning, I read your post, and I thought it was really an odd problem. Nevertheless, as I was running errands, I decided to use my horn.

    Instantly, my horn cut off, I lost my tachometer, my head beam, and I later discovered that the low oil pressure lamp was no longer lighting with the engine not running.

    I thought that I must be that lucky, someone talks about it, and it immediately affects me.

    Fortunately, I checked my fuse box, and discovered that where there should have been a 15 Amps fuse, there was only a 5 Amps one, and it was blown!

    I don't think you have the same problem as I did, but just for being thorough, check your fuse....

    It is the one with the head lamps icon.

  3. Francesco Bagnaia has signed for another two years after 2024, at the Ducati factory team.

    Rumors of a purchase of MotoGP by Liberty is growing.

    Latest prediction on future Marc Marquez performance comes from Jorge Lorenzo. According to him, Marc does not yet ride the Ducati like a Ducati, but like a Honda. He does not see him being reshuffling the expectations before a while.

    Jorge said that he observed Marc, and based on his own experience of having been on both the Ducati and the Honda, he can easily interpret how Marc is doing.

    So, this weekend, we will get an idea of what could happen, with whom...

    I liked the British sports cars, and if you ever got close to one, like Triumph, Jaguar, MG, Austin Cooper, Aston Martin, they had those Smith/Jaeger gauges, with all that information.

    I remember that my friends and I were impressed by how many of those gauges fitted on the Dashboard; including Oil pressure and Oil temperature.... I always liked analogical instruments.

    While I was at Cyclegear, I reviewed a few of those they sold; none of them had the same min and max charge voltage requirements...

    Obviously, all these are blanket statements in case your battery fails; I don't believe many motorcyclists know what voltage is being applied to their batteries when they ride. I remember the older cars having Ampere and Voltage meters part of the measurements.

    The second time, in my garage, after having installed the new Odyssey PC545MJ, charged and tested. It was like the solenoid was not properly engaging the starter gear through the fly wheel. At the next attempt, it cranked properly, and since then, it seems to be working as before.

    All the wiring is properly connected, the battery is good. Whatever it was, it may have to do with either the starter motor or the solenoid.

    At present, I am running around home to see if it will do it again. Obviously, according to Murphy, it is going to work perfectly until I am up in Amarillo.

    It was not the battery!

    I received the new Odyssey battery; they have retired the model name PC545 (MJ).

    The additional thermal protection is achieved by having the battery encased in that metal jacket.

    I conducted some comparative tests on both batteries, and they were similar.

    I installed the new battery, and the starting was not straight at the push of the button. Not sure how to describe it. May have been something to do with the Solenoid.

    But I have not been able to reproduce it. I have made multiple starts, and it cranks properly each time.

    I attempted resuscitation technique on my PC545;

    In my line of work, we used batteries to power instruments to be run in wells. While Lithium came to the knowledge of the public rather recently, my company was directly sponsoring SAFT into finding better batteries for our applications. Lithium appeared in the early 80's, and we quickly learned the danger and limitation of it.

    One of the known issue of Lithium batteries is named "passivation". It happens during storage before use. Prior to use the battery, you need to depassivate it, which is basically applying a load for a given period of time followed by a rest. Repeat until full capacity is restored.

    I did manage to improve my PC545 a little, but I have not been able to get back to what it used to be.

    This is why I have decided not to take the risk, and I will install a new battery.

    When I got the no crank situation, it brought back some bad memories. Not again!

    I just went by the spec sheet of the PC545L and PC545MJ;

    one has a lower temperature rating than the other. 113 degF versus 176 degF. This is why I went MJ; last year, during some of my rides temperatures were up in the 120 degF.

    The battery performance is exactly the same for both, only the casing changes.

    I ordered the MJ.

  10. I just had a no crank situation with the Le Mans last Sunday. This happened after riding to College Station from La Grange.

    I just had made a stop at Kyke Field for the Texas Tour, and I refueled shortly after. When attempting to restart the engine, the dashboard lights intensity went down, but the starter did not turn.

    I attempted a push start in fourth, did not start the bike, but managed to revive the starter. I was lucky.

    Back home, I checked the battery under load, and only got 9.6 Volts. Charged the battery, and get to 10.8 Volts under load.

    Seemed obvious something was wrong with the battery. An Odyssey PC545;

    I have now gone through all the posts I found related to batteries for the V11. I also went to Cyclegear to check what battery they had in stock;

    First and foremost, I found out that the Odyssey PC545 I was using was not best rated for the hot temperatures we have in Texas; https://www.odysseybattery.com/products/ods-agm15l-battery-pc545/

    The better choice, would be the PC545MJ with a better operating range span, up to 176 degF (80 degC); the conventional PC545 top operating range is 113 degF (45 degC); https://www.odysseybattery.com/products/ods-agm15lmj-battery-pc545mj/

    There is a significant price difference between the two: US$ 148, versus US$ 172.

    I also found out that for most of the sites offering a battery selector, the V11 is missing.

    Last I looked at Lithium batteries; several have warnings about the charge from your motorcycle, that should be between a specific bracket. For example, the Duraboost reads that voltage coming from the bike should be between 14.0 and 14.9 volts. After riding through all the posts, I learned the V11 charging current is all but stable and predictable.

    What I could do, is a battery cross-reference table, with all the brands and models, that are useable on our V11s.

    For example @MartyNZ was/is happily using a Shorai LFX21L6-BS12; I looked it up on the Shorai site, and it is in back order.

    Back in the 70's, most of the bikes from Japan came equipped with Yuasa batteries;

    If you look up Yuasa' site, you will find the proposed battery for the V11 is the YTX15L, and is no longer manufactured.

    I am going to go with the Odyssey PC545MJ.

    Pecco has no opinion.

    That being said, only two pilots have won three times the world championship in a row; the first to have accomplished that performance was Valentino Rossi; the second was Marc Marquez...

    I have no doubt that Bagnaia would most likely be pleased to win a third championship, on a Ducati. The previous guys did it for Japanese brands.

    I do not know how verbatim are the comments reproduced in my previous post. I can't help but notice that Marc Marquez does not directly refer to the name of Francesco. When he states: "the favorite is the Champion" he may as well speak about himself; after all, he is also considered a Champion, isn't he?

    I admire Marc's talent and his brave come back from injury.  I'll cheer for him as a competitor and a contender but it will take a lot more for me to want to see him champion again.  What he got away with 2015 ruined the season and ruined the goodwill I had for the guy.  If he has a good season and contends for the title, I'm sure that one of the manufacturers will offer him an attractive package.   Likely not Ducati unless he wins the title for them against a competitor on another brand of bike.

    About Ducati, they have openly negated their interest to have Marc in the factory team, stating they have their own talent breeding ground.

    If Marc begins to fight for victory at each race, I will see their attitude change. At the end of the day, business is business. Sure, as they put forward, they have Pecco, a twice championship winner. But Marquez has the notoriety and fame that Pecco does not.

    Certainly, it is not ideal for the show for Ducati to hoard all the best riders.

    2024 will be a major year for pilots' shuffle. Enea Bastianini, Jorge Martin, Fabio Quartararo, Jack Miller, may be losing or changing package. Alex Espargaro has been toying with the idea to retire.
