So if anyone is looking for a source, start at your local hot-rod tuning shop.

Yes, I already knew about heat shields being used by the Muscle Car/Hot Rod crowd to insulate blowers in turbocharged engine and keep air intake cool, and we used to have a couple of independent shops around here that were great resources for everything automotive. Unfortunately they went the way of the dodo as everything can now be found with a couple of clicks on a keyboard. The trouble with that is you don't get to talk to anyone with any knowledge of - and even less get to see/touch - the product you're buying.

That's why I find personal hands-on experience with a particular product highly valuable.

Perhaps someone with the later, internal pump/filter long tank can confirm the heat shielding was still being applied?

Yes, the heat shield is present on the long tanks as well and like you said, it has a tendency to loose adhesion and come off at the edges. I’d actually be curious to know what kind of glue anyone has used to stick it back on and how well it held up.

And if anyone has ever replaced it, what type of material was used for it.

  3. I think it has to do with product safety testing and licensing requirements for manufacturers to sell in the US. It is an expensive and long process and probably not worth it to them for such a small market item. And they would have to do it for each and everyone of the different iterations of the same type stand for all the bikes models...

Somehow, vendors are able to circumvent that and import and sell these stand as MG Cycles does.

I'm still in hopes of someone posting that they have used the GU05001231 and what their experiences with it have been.

Paging @Lucky Phil to the white courtesy phone... :helmet:

Art, I assume you've read the post docc referred to earlier in the thread - that’s a pretty good endorsement for the newer gasket imo.

  5. ^^^^^^^^^ +1 on the Becker Technik!

I got mine (2 actually, one for the V11 and one for the Griso) from SD as well, and I like ‘em.

I’ve never had any issues with SD, they tend to keep good stock, often have better pricing once you take the VAT off and they ship lickity-split. I don’t remember what kind of instructions came with them but it’s not too hard to figure out, and if in doubt, there is lots of info to be found here and on the interweb. @activpop might even send you a copy of his in english if you ask nicely

PS: SD ships from Germany at a flat rate so it is advantageous to order any parts you might need at the same time.

I kinda like the looks of Guzzi 's latest iteration (GU05001231) as shown in the previous post.

Where did you source the timing chest cover gasket #GU05001231?

I checked the usual MG vendors and it doesn’t seem to be of the garden-variety type item.

Shin Etsu grease (has a Honda part #) for rubber.

"Plastic" can mean a lot of different things, but generally I use "210" spray cleaner/polish for "shiny" plastics.

I love to learn about products I’ve never heard about before, “210” is a new one for me.

There is another Honda product that works well for plastics, “Honda Spray Cleaner & Polish”.

And they are both a lot cheaper (Guzzi content) than “Plexus”..
