Although I really am not enamored with the name about which I'd have to roll my eyes if anyone asked about the tire, has anyone checked out the Dunlop Mutant tire?

It has some pretty impressive reviews, and seems to be a great all-around(er) tire, especially if your riding includes a lot of wet and poor roads.

A fairly new offering from Dunlop which popped up on my radar recently as well. No personal experience, but I've read mostly raving reviews from testers. Definitely interesting construction and looks. I'm highly considering trying them next, they could be effective around here as the tarmac on secondary roads is often in bad shape. Albeit not on the V11S but on the Griso. I think in terms of looks it would suit the Griso nicely and even maybe in name, as I think of the Griso as a bit of a - dare I say it - MUTANT.

I can also make the top straight instead of pointy.

Ok, so I don’t care much for patches but I do have a bit of a stickers fétichisme... so I’ll jump in.

I think the top of the shield would look better with a slight upward curve to give it a more modern look than the traditional pointy shield - somewhat combining shield and oval shape...

All the lettering - V11lemans.com - could be at the top, following the curve with the V of the engine tucked lower into the shield to follow its contour more closely.

The addition of the Italian flag colors could be interesting, either in the lettering, the border or the background... :2c:

  3. Lots of info on the subject over the years, tank swelling and paint bubbling caused by the propensity of ethanol hygroscopic nature to absorb moisture which in turn is being absorbed by the plastic.

This affected the tanks made of PA6 Nylon by Acerbis for Ducati, Aprilia, KTM and Moto Guzzi(V11, Norge, Griso, etc.). It affected Ducati’s owners so badly that a class-action lawsuit was filed against Ducati North America, which they lost, having to replace the tanks of thousands of bikes albeit with the same ones, only with a longer warranty time, thus kicking the can down the road...

One of the solution to the problem for people unable to avoid filling their tanks with ethanol laced gasoline has been to coat the tanks with Caswell epoxy. Reports of successfully eliminating the swelling abound but also failure for some as the coating would not adhere properly to the inside of the tank. Most likely due to inadequate application process?!

As gstallons said, use your best judgment... :nerd:

    You know what I mean....

I did interpret it in your first comment as a forever happy drug... I wasn't too far from the mark.

Althought I had to look it up...   Movie references are lost on me... I'm an hermit when it comes to pop culture.

Such are the perils one faces when conversing in their non-native tongue

If we had a brain , we would push them up in a corner , take the blue pill , get a HONDA and ride trouble free for the rest of our lives w/just enough sense to put gas in the tank.

This is exactly what the previous owner of my V11 did before selling it me, bought a Honda 750NC750X with DCT. He was getting on in years and had difficulties operating the bike, particularly the clutch as he had developed some condition in his hands that made it uncomfortable, also wasn't keen on the owner maintenance required as he once was, but didn't want to give up riding.

So he got a push button => go ride - no worries sewing machine of a bike and kept happy just riding.

I never did ask him about the blue pill...

  6. Tire/Rim size fitment recommendation:

    180/55-17 => 5.50-6.00

    170/60-17 => 4.25-5.50

These 2 tire sizes have different aspect ratio and although you could go either way on the 5.5" rim that came with the later models, mounting a 180/55 falls on the lower side of the recommended rim width where the 170/60 is on the higher side.

The 170/60 will definetly sit a bit flatter on a 5.5" rim but the 180/55 with a smaller recommended rim size span would be just right.

In fact, next tire size up, 190/55-17 will only properly fit on a 6.0-6.5" rim.

There are so many other factors to handling performance not only with tires of different brands - even between models within the same brand - with different actual size and shape but also tire pressure, carried weight, ergonomics, etc. and most importantly suspension setup that it all comes down to personal experience with your own setup when it comes to tire choice.

Don't forget that motorcycle tires have come a long way in the last 20 years and the 180/55 - 5.5" rim combo is pretty much today's standard for most sport/sport touring liter bikes.

I personally favor that combo on my bike - it looks right and it feels right - again just a personal choice... YMMV

  7. I am fairly new to forums and a member in only 3, the other two being Grisoghetto and WG. But this is by far where I spend the most time. It may have to do with the fact that my V11S has become my favorite bike but foremost because I very much enjoy the small community here, and the dedication of all members to the maintenance and development of this unique motorbike.

And maybe it is not in small part because of this forum and its community that my V11 has become my #1 bike...

So, a big thank you to @Admin Jaap for creating, running and maintaining this forum and to @docc for the time and dedication in helping it run smoothly and to remind us why we are all here. :notworthy:

The "mark site as read" button simply marks anything that the forum thinks you haven't looked at up to that moment as read

Precisely!! If you had read my post properly, which I wrote with the intention to be helpful to others, you might have noted that I was refering to old threads and how it helps me to know what I have already read and what is new (unread) to me, typically when I'm researching a particular subject. And unless you have been on this forum since the beginning, I doubt you could have possibly read everything that was ever posted in the 20+ years this forum has existed.

I understand we all consume this forum in different ways and I'm glad to know that you think the way you do it is the best way... but it's not the only way!

I don't think you need to worry about that.

As for that... I'll try not to. Thank you!

  10. I have actually got rid of all the new map markers that recently popped up in my unread content stream by clicking on each and every one of them - click>back>click>back... - it helps that I have the browser back button on the mouse itself and a decent connection, and although my computer, like its owner, is of an older generation, it didn't take too long; with a little patience...

I didn't want to use the "Mark site read" function and loose the "unread content" feature when I explore or revisit old threads, being able to know what I’ve already read and what is new(unread) to me is helpful when searching for specific tech info.

  11. A one man shop with a clear passion for the brand. Really Piaggio?  What harm is there to your multi brand international corporation. It is thanks to people like Stefan that the reputation of Moto Guzzi as far more meaning and long lasting power then any corporate advertising campaign could achieve. Do you think so many people would be interested in your new products or even know you existed if it wasn’t for the brand evangelists(Guzzisti) of this world? They should be given credit and support and be promoted as brand ambassadors. Instead they are treated with total disrespect and petty squabbles over the use of the Guzzi name. I bet the founders of Moto Guzzi would be delighted to see their venerable name and creation embraced by those artisans.

In this fast spinning world we found ourselves living in, it seems that a lot of traditional values - respect, kindness, compassion - along with the freedom to follow your dreams, are being eroded by the power of the all-mighty corporation and their army of lawyers, and as a result the little people - creators, inventors, artists, etc..- are being squashed into submission and brought under control. Sad to see that such is the case with the brand that we all love and share here.

End of rant. And sorry for the black cloud...

Thanks to Jan @biesel for sharing the portrait of Stefan and Radical Guzzi which was a pleasant discovery!
