  1. I tried the cheap route and had mine powdercoated black here locally in Fallon. Didn't last 10 minutes and flaked off as well. I'm going to either stick it out till winter, and then send them to Jet-hot, or just use some black header wrap that I had planned for my Chevy. But for sure, powdercoating didn't hold for me.
  2. Intended point taken. I'd be interested to hear your proposed solution to all this, as it sounds like your source for information is quite a bit different than mine.
  3. I think the threads are reversed... Almost positive. I had this problem. It wants to turn counterclockwise (towards the fairing). No offense to those "in the know", there may be another problem as well.
  4. Well, so far I haven't had any problems...But we shall see; I have a ride up to Washington State planned at the end of the month.
  5. Also, a big part of my problem was that I was hooking up the aftermarket rectifier to the original wiring. Not the right move! The after market units, for whatever reason, are designed to go straight to the battery, bypassing the stock harness. Apparently, it says this in the instructions...
  6. Running the Stradas currently-have 5K on them, and the back is holding up fine...the front is about due, maybe end of season? Plenty of grip for me to be sure. These seem to be a pretty good tire.
  7. Check that alternator...All my symptoms pointed to rectifier until I got frustrated and pulled the alternator just for kicks...found the real problem at that point. Same deal-started at idle, then became gradually more frequent over about 6K miles.
  8. Wow, I thought I was the youngest one here...Guess I'm tied for the year 1980. Damn.
  9. It's on the left hand side, just forward and slightly below the remote resevoir for the shock (above the starter cover). It's really the only thing there. If it hasn't been messed with, it's a violet wire connected to it.
  10. I dunno, I can dig it...more displacement is always a good thing, and it looks Guzzi enough to where I think it'd get the same response the Tenni does: "What's a Moto Gooozi? Is it fast?" Would I spend the money? Who's to say? The list of bikes I have to own before I die is mighty long as is, but it would definitley oust the Beemer for my touring choice. (Now if I could only talk myself out of that damn FJ1300!)
  11. Not to mention the way the sidestand mounts to the engine case...I'd hate to see the havoc that could wreak with a good impact.
  12. It'd be nice, but then I wonder how bad the stock front forks will feel...is this a can of worms worth opening?
  13. .060 would be a good starting point, I'd think- pretty common.
  14. All this talk of beer is making a very convincing argument towards my leaving work early. . The "best beer" thing almost always depends on the place, company, ride or situation-but a fresh Heinekin, from the source in Amsterdam...doesn't get much better than that.
  15. Yup. Good stuff for sure. Pete's Wicked Strawberry Ale's right up there as well.
  16. These kinds of things are frustrating- I was down for quite awhile chasing electrical problems, culminating in the replacement of one very expensive alternator, three rectifiers (I fried two before finding the short in the alternator) most of the major connectors, and a lot of fuses. If you can hang on through the bugs, these things seem to end up being pretty indestructible. FWIW, I don't think I've heard of anyone else with fuel pump problems, so maybe it's a fluke (like I hope my alternator problem was)
  17. Glad you're alright...it's good to bring these things to the forum-keep everyone's attention on peak. I've been fortunate so far. Safe, but fortunate. Hope that guy gets his lumps. Again, happy to hear your report that the gear is all that really suffered.
  18. Yeah, I didn't realize that until after I bought the magnetic type myself
  19. ] Did you ever see "A Bronx Tale"? "Hey kid, show him what Moxie is"
  20. STOP!!! I can't, repeat can not, stand wanting another bike. Especially one that could possibly fill the same spot as my Goose. This thing is just bad. http://www.mcnews.com.au/NewBikeCatalogue/...s/lhf_misty.jpg
  21. Welcome to the forum! Great looking bike. I always like the older sports as well.
  22. This is my problem exactly. Add to the list a V-max, Honda Interceptor (pre-98), 98-01 ZX-12, Heritage Softail, and a BMW GS1150. Just to start; I'll need a bigger garage for the rest
  23. 15000 miles, no problems as of yet. I just got #126 back on the road, so my season's already three weeks behind. Got some catching up to do!!
