  1. Does anyone know if there is any difference with using an O2 sensor, please? ie can you use a PC map designed for a V11 with an O2 sensor on a V11 which doesn't have one? Cheers Richard

    Dilemma

Just buy a little DNA 125cc and thrash the nuts off it - they don't cost much and they get silly miles to the gallon (i was getting 120 miles per gallon on my 125). They handle ok too.... If I was doing a commute I would buy one - I wouldn't want to put the Guzzi through the pain of just about warming up before having to shut down.
  3. The entire Guzzi is one big querk. It's essentially a 1960's motor much more highly tuned than it was originally designed and thrown into a frame which, in the right hands, will corner faster than most modern machines on the road. That's the querk, a 1960's motor out-performing the best that modern manufactures can provide... (take a V35 Imola II (350cc) out cornering a ninga 2 up and on an obvious corner!!) Richard
  4. Just a quick note for anyone who has had kill switch issues. I've just had a problem with the kill switch on my '03 Rosso Corsa - the kill switch would intermittently cut power to the engine whilst riding along. I disconnected it and eventually bought a new one. All was right and well with the world for a couple of months and suddenly the new switch started doing the same. After much swearing, I took the old switch apart to find that it's actually a two-way switch which, in typical Guzzi fashion, they connected to the wrong connection! If you pull the switch apart you find that the connection they have used for the 'run' mode barely makes contact. In contrast the un-used connection, the 'stop' mode, is a huge contact, which finds home every time. Therefore, out with the soldering iron and removed the wire from the original connection and soldered it onto the un-used connection, in effect reversing the action of the switch (in is now 'run' and out is now 'stop'). So far now no problems.
  5. Don't they share a common earth?!
  6. I'd say try Altberg, too. They are all CE approved and are really good value, especially as they are hand made. I have 3 pairs of them, both zippered and lace up and can't rate them too highly. Richard
  7. Errrrr...... there already is legislation banning loud pipes, but some Police Forces are cracking down on it. It's good to know that these Forces have stopped all murders, thefts, assults etc. which means that they can spare manpower to deal with these dangerous criminals who have loud pipes!!

    Helmet Testing

After smashing my jaw in after coming off my mountain bike on the road doing 20 mph and having to endure 3 weeks of hell and baby food you'll definitely never see me riding a motorcycle in an open face helmet. If you want to do it feel free, but I'm just glad I wasn't going any faster, especially as some years later I came off my motorbike at about 35 mph and destroyed the face guard of my helmet. Had I not been wearing a full face I would have had to have major reconstructive surgery, if i had a jaw left. Not a very pleasant thought.
  9. Having had the same problem with the starter switch, I would have to disagree. I replaced the right hand switch gear and have had no trouble since.
  10. There are very few parts which will have that 'just slot in' style interchangability, most will require at least a little persuasion! For example, an 18" front wheel from a Mille GT will just slot in as a replacement for the 16" front of a Spada II. You can fit a six-speed V11 gearbox to an 1100 Sporti, as it will just slot in as a replacment gearbox, however you will require the V11 swinging arm, drive shaft, bevel box, torque arm and will require to reposition the torque arm mounting on the 1100 frame. Anything is possible with a little imagination and some mechanical thriftiness.
  11. Has anyone fitted FBF high compression pistons to their V11? I am looking at doing this and would be interested to hear any thoughts on the topic, please? Richard V11 Rosso Corsa
  12. I had the same problem on my 1100 Sport. It turned out to be that both the regulator/rectifier unit had gone (and hence no charge warning light) and so had the rotor. An expensive trip down the road! Richard
  13. I have had a similar problem on my Rosso Corsa. I don't have a clutch switch. The starter solenoid clicks in, but the starter doesn't spin up. If pressure is kept on the starter switch it will evenually spin up. This is an intermittent fault. I have taken it off and put the starter from my 1100 sport on there (same starter) and it fires perfectly every time. I have cleaned the brushes and the armature and still no difference. On bench tests I can't get it to fail. Does anyone have any ideas, please?
