Heh, well, I am decidedly chiral, at the very least. You don't want to bring out my mirror image!

(Yes, same. Not "chiral" )

Checking in on Middle Tennessee

Those are good points. I know a guy who's whole family puts on helmets when they are in the shelter. Lord knows, we probably all have lots of extra motorcycle helmets . . . -

All is well with those we know. That can't be said for all of Nashville, of course. These night time tornadoes are devastating, catching people totally unprepared or unalerted. We were caught in a powerful tornado path in 1998 that changed my view of weather forever. That same day, tornadoes went through Nashville on about the same course as this one. (I'm about an hour's drive south of the city.) There must be a "Tornado Alley" there as there was a 1933 event that followed very nearly that same path . . . Thanks for checking up, Nobelswood! Much appreciated! -
"like hands" Nice one, griswoia!

griswoia, would you verify left rider (not passenger) footpeg, but right side brake lever (hand/front brake or foot/ rear brake)? Seems damage like that would be a flip-over!

Ducati Donut - Funny and Informative

Now I cannot un-see LowRyter "waving with both hands like Miss America" from the seat of his red Ducati . . . It's not a bad thing, just kinda freakie when the drummer does this sort of thing from behind the band. -
These are killer deals. Thanks for sharing all this kit with the community, Gio! (No pics seemed to come up on this topic . . . )

This reminds me, wasn't it determined that even though fork diameters changed between the early and late V11, the are for clip-on attachment remains the same? Such that any clip-ons can be used between the various forks? Does that even include the Öhlins?
-
For just the subframes? Seems this is the right thread for that topic.

"No petroleum grease on braking components. Silicone only!", sez gstallons . . . As to using aggressive pads on these Brembos so they last longer, I would ever rather replace pads than rotors. Talk about 'spensive.

Took a spill on the freeway

I learned to carry a spare spark plug and resister cap (actually a pair) in the monkey paw trap. Even shared them with an unlucky friend on a roadside out in the hilly countryside once . . . -

That is amazing that the head guard worked as well as it did. I've never seen one that eaten away . . So glad to hear you, and your protective gear, got you out of this better than that head guard fared! whew! -
On the omission of the "triangular" spine frame brace, I firmly believe they just found it too labor intensive to fit after the fuel injection was installed. If you have ever fit one (to an FI SpineFrame), you know what I mean . . .
-
Agreed. A sort of "knee-jerk" solutionism. Perhaps not actual engineering at all. Maybe just > changes to demonstrate response to the market <
-
The "triangular brace" (between the bottom of the SpineFrame and the top junction of the engine/gearbox) that went missing on the V11 is only fittable to the early Sports 1999-2001, but that is not the LongFrame "gearbox bracing." This is two tubes extending from the lowest tip of the frame side plates (from the lower subframe) forward to the back of the engine case. This cannot be added to the early Sports as there is no boss to attach the brace tubes to the engine. Look for the tube in this Scura image just above the exhaust:

So, help me out here. I have always been under the impression that the Centauro had a short travel (rear) suspension. Or, maybe, that it was lowered? Could that really be? And is the Centauro motor in the same state of tune as the Daytona? What differences? TIA, always learning . . .

A dear friend trusted technician suggested Brembo rotors like Brembo pads. I had excessive wear from EBC HH pads and have been using Brembo, again, ever since.

That checks out with the numbers I posted above. Are the caliper bolts M8x1.25?

Happy Leap Day, y'all! (Photo courtesy of Hagerty Drivers Club)

Can you verify they are 8mm? Those will be 25-30NM (18-22 ft-lb). If they are 10mm/ 45-50 NM (33-37 ft-lb)

That is an interesting perspective. When the frames changed, not only longer but with the cross-braced front and rear subframes and lower braces across the gearbox (along with the wider rear wheel/tire), the thinking was that this was all in response to persistent complaints in the press about the odd handling characteristics of the early Sports. While some of that was down to "expectations of what a Guzzi handles like,' there were a collection of very real issues that affected the early Sport's stability and tendency to "weave" at high speed in a cross wind (like passing a truck on the freeway). It occurs to me the LongFrame was introduced for the 2002 LeMans, still with the early tank style (external pump/fiter), while the Gen2 tank came out in 2003, if I am not mistaken (?)

I think the discussion about Carillo rods is valuable to all of us, no foul. So, ChrisC, I can edit your original post with tools on my computer when I get home later. Somehow, those tools do not appear on this mobile device. [edit: Okay, gotcha, buddy. Let me know if you want that done differently.] Good luck with the sale and thanks for showing us the stable!
