  1. First problem on the Sport ( leaky front gearbox seal munted the clutch) came at 4000 miles / 6400 km. Your LeMans is ,as yet, young and virginal. John, with that beautiful cafe round-fin of yours can you say that the LeMans is that much more fun to ride? How so?
  2. Yes, bummer, sounds like the return spring. I know we were all hoping this went away with the early '02. (Any news on our 'custom set'. T.P.?)
  3. "72", Not unlikely that it will all just 'loosen up' with the miles. Does the the shift lever stay down as well?
  4. Like many , I switched to the 160/60-17 on the Sport (from 170/60-17). Next tire I think I'll go to the 160/70 just to get a little more weight to the front. Sure interested in how many miles you guys are gettinr out of the Diablos. And , like the Pirelli Dragon, are there "corse" as well as other cmpounds of Diablo?
  5. The rear Sport 1100 carb size: 160/70-17? or 160/60-17?? (I thought "michelin" was French for 'yer-arse -on the-street'.) docc (allergic to Pilot Roads)
  6. Andy york in Nashville just fitted one to his LeMans. Send him a pm through the board and see what he says about it.
  7. S100 or Simple Green work pretty well. Remember the cases are painted so too much solvent may strip the paint. The manual calls for "petrol" but I bet their New York lawyers didn't see that line. Hot water and detergent worked with a parts cleaning brush is effective as well.
  8. Al, Didn't Gio do some heat shielding at the same time the pump was moved? One or the other or maybe both methods fxed his trouble. Guzzi science.
  9. Oh, it's not so bad when the gearbox gremlin shows up like this: It's when it shows up like this:
  10. I'm rather shocked that your post actually says "B" "M" "W".
  11. '02 LeMans ought to have a manual petcock. But it sure sounds like a fuel starvation. Not the dreaded 'vapor lock' in January?
  12. Threads like this appear to be uniquely a winter past-time. Notice none of the New Zealand crowd participates. Of course they can go for a ride while the rest of us drink too much and have nightmares about toads on bikes.

    Dipstick

i ordered one but don't have a price yet. I was thinking that not only is the fluted plastic stick awkward to read, you can't see the color or condition of the oil. I'm looking forward to the new stick.
  14. There's no chance you moved the adjusting nut just in front of the splined shaft? Or that the pawl is fowling on that?
  15. I think the Candy Wrapper scheme is the Coppa Italia which I heard is Italian for "Gettin' Some" (I'm looking forward to seeing one of those up close. They look 'festive' to me.) The Nero Corse looks to be a fabulous package. But 'reliability' is kind of a relative term. It not only implies how much might break but also how long it may take to fix. By all appearances parts availability and service turn around are improving but probably still not on par with the Japanese. So, Mario, will you keep the Z-rex and add the LeMans? That way a little down time for sorting and fettling will be no disaster as you have another ride to enjoy.
  16. Both sides of my tank have the play at the front. And I did find the hose 'crimp' from some entrapment on that left side. But I thought I had caused that as I had shortened the line for the smaller (Nissan) filter. When i switched to the longer (Isuzu) filter, I cut a new longer line to be sure there's no pinch at that left tank mount point.
  17. It's that olive oil based glue. Seriously, i remember a thread on this. Something about using, er, Bavarian parts.
  18. Warrren, It sounds more like the throw might be bringing the lever in contact with the starter cover. Although I'm a lttle cofused about your changing the pattern. 1-up,5-down? You have the lever pointing backwards? What?
  19. you're in luck! That's the easy drip to stop. There is another shaft like that just above the one visible. They are both accessible with the starter removed. Clean the recess with some high flash point solvent and a q-tip. Once dry fill the area with some hi-temp RTV silicone. I made a plug for my lower pin from a Honda timing cover plug. The case contour on the upper pin won't hold a plug. but really the RTV treatment is tidy, easy and effective. Also, when inspecting the gearbox look carefully for the 6-speed gremlin. It is reported to look something like this:
  20. Just a little 'heads-up ' that the range of numbers can be misleading. This concerns the mysterious ninth digit. The announced range of VIN starts with a "8" in the ninth place. My 2000 Sport has a "2" in the ninth place but is still in the recall. You would think 2 comes before 8 but, er, maybe not in Italian. If your 2000-2001 Sport is second hand it would be a good idea to cotact MGUS to be certain of your recall status.

So, Jonathan, what did the piece cost?

From the Owner's Manual: The oil level check should be carried out after the engine has run for a few minutes: the dipstick plug > should be screwed up completely. Also, marginal oil levels are known to contribute to the intermittent oil light under hard acceleration.
  23. When my dealer ( at that time) sealed my gearbox, he swore by Yamabond 'blue.' Sure enough the cases never seaped after that. I'm betting Honda would have a good sealer also. My new gearbox appears to have a different sealer than the old. It is black and rubbery versus the old thin, brown olive oil based stuff.
  24. So, Mike, what kind of oil did you use? ( Let's all admit: we love oil. we think about oil, talk about oil. We love the way it looks, smells and feels. We can't resist an oil thread. The only thing better is a suspension thread and this thread is both!)
