If the valve clearance is correct the lobe of the camshaft is not worn either. Correct? I have not seen a piston for this bike but it sounds as though you have broken a piston skirt. The cylinder is easily removed to inspect the piston for a crack or missing sections. You don't need to ride this and find out the hard way! p.s. the skirt is the section that is below the piston pin and perpindicular (sp) to the pin. this skirt keeps the piston straight in the cylinder bore.

Are there no members or riders living near you that would swap batteries (easiest) or starting motors to test for the fault? p.s. When you disconnect the starter, remove the neg. lead from the batery so you won't have sparks fly.
-
9.6v or below is not good starting voltage. When the starting motor rpm drops too much, the motor starts becoming a "short". EMF, CEMF,etc... If the headlamp remains bright during this test the battery is okay. p.s. the headlamp will go out during cranking.

When you say "second try", how much time between the first and second attempt? The best battery test I have ever developed on automobiles is to turn on the headlamps for 10 mins. then try to start the vehicle. If the battery is weak, it will not crank the car or it wiil crank slowly.

WOW , the best yet! Those are the best "leathers" I've seen.

The first thing you want to do is to check ALL connections at the battery positive and negative terminals, the starter terminal and the ground cable. If you can install a shakeproof (star) washer on the ground cable. Not long ago I spent a week looking for the best price on a battery just to find a LOOSE positive cable bolt !

such a mess. ebay item # 170261627339 I don't know which is worse a BMW or Guzzi messed up like this.

You use one cable or wire with all component input and outputs operating on exclusive frequencys . All is well as long as these frequencys stay within their parameters or nothing else intrudes on their "communication".

"A person who tells an ethnic joke about his own kind is a wit and a person who tells an ethnic joke about someone else is a bigot". * There are good and bad in every crowd and certain types tend to congregate together I am a BMWMOA member, own a K-bike and I have lots of friends that own them and are "down to earth" men and women. Then there are the "others"... I read this joke in an automobile publication... What is the difference between a BMW and a porcupine? .... the pricks are on the outside of a porcupine. * MAD magazine, from a looong time ago.

You are joking about the MV ...? Oh well you could ride it to Sturgis or Little Sturgis ?

Carbs (throttle bodies) don't make noise. You might have a throttle body that has popped out of it's mounting. Look to see if they are both mounted the same depth in their mount. Read up on throttle synchronization BEFORE adjusting things. p.s. If it happened all at once, something happened all a once.

That is NOT encouraging. Capilatism doesn't have taste or appreciation when it is powered by profit margin. Maybe they will get rid of the old buildings and put up a Wal-Mart Supercenter. p.s. Do you think anyone on the Board of GM could tell you who Ransom E. Olds was or what an REO Speedwagon (or even the music group)was or is ?

That maxim is for older British bikes only. You have never experienced a love/hate relationship until you have owned a British bike. p.s. There are many (not all) beemer owners who breathe rarified air. I guess their bikes don't handle too well because they can't give the customary "wave " when you meet them on the road?

You are riding one of the most bulletproof motorcycles ever built. The masses don't know or care. If it is not a H-D or Goldwing nobody cares to talk to you at a stopping place. The people I run into have NEVER heard of MG brand. I don't ride it for their approval. You don't need an adertisement or approval rating or a magazine evaluation to tell you what you want taking you to your destination. I trust my bike with an understanding it is not perfect. I dont' know if there is a bike MG made specifically just to wear out an odometeter. Most of these bmw riders are rich people ($96k average annual income according to bmwon) with no concerns as any other brand owners. If I had enough money I would ride 50k mi. a year too.

When you remove the throttle plates, scribe (with an awl) the throttle plate to throttle shaft alignment to get them back together properly. Make an arrow to mark "up" on the throttle plate and do ONE throttle body at a time. Some throttle plate to shaft screws are staked or "loctite" on. On these I don't know. Good luck!

I suppose you are bidding on them on ebay? If so ,we are wondering the same thing?

EVERY bike is different. My 87SE either starts on the first cylinder that comes up and hits like a shotgun at 270 and 450 degrees ( a rush I can't describe). If it doesn't you will swear the starter will not have enough to make one more revolution. But it does start.... My K100 starts right up or cranks 5 seconds . The V11 starts right up or has an extended crank time. They are like women: every one and every time is different enough to make you think when you "get on" Remember this and cherish each time it starts , you get what you put into the experience. .

Remove the whole assy. from the bike. There's a clip that holds the pin in place.Remove it,tap out the pin and watch things fly. find all those parts, spray a dry film graphite on them. Reassemble and have a place for your "putty tat" to rest her feet.

wiring diagrams are are drawn as seen.schematics are drawn as in theory of operation .

You had better look at the pictures again...The wheels look that good!

Don't let $2500 stand between you and ecstacy ! There was a bike featured on this site last month from around georgetown,ky. They look GOOD!!!!

My 87 SE had a small birthday candle in the headlamp cavity and would burn up the $170 headlamp swich about every two years. I got the headlamp relay kit and PIAA bulb from MotoInternational. After installation I wired (soldered) a diode into the wiring harness so both hi/low beams would burn on hi beam. WOW!! I can ride at night now ! Lesson.. For what it's woth, the relay is the current carrying device instead of the switch, put the relay kit on and run the ground strap from the steering head to the frame. You probably don't want to price the switch for the V11s...... -
When you remove the grease fitting this will allow the excess grease to come out when you push the driveshaft back together. Make sure the driveshaft is in time (this is when both yokes in a straght up and down position) when sliding the tubes together. Some shafts are made to where the splines will go together ONLY one way. After reassembly you can grease the slip yoke grease fitting. Good luck!

Guzzi did not fit the fuel filter and pump in a standard location. Yours is in the "best" location for cooling fuel going into the fuel injection system. The regulator on my bike is locted below the oil cooler and between the horns. My pump is between the lh cyl.head and frame, the filter is on top of the frame. The regulator is a snap to get to. If you have to remove the fuel filter you will lose an amount (small or a lot) of gasloine with aluminum washers on banjo fittings (if they are so equipped). If you need to remove anything keep a visual picture of what is coming off. BTW, the owner you talk to at EME is not some dummy reseller, he knows what he is doing.Do not be afraid to call him up and ask him ?s. when people are making a sale they are more apt to talk about the field in which they are associated with.
