Guilty as charged. It's actually a decent lift. (!) Yes, I've used the high priced spread when I've done some work for Mark at MGC, but for the occasional use that I do.. it's fine. Mine came with a missing nut that could have been a disaster. The cylinder needed to be topped up and bled. That was all. Just the same, inspect, lock tite, grease, etc. It would ruin your day if something came loose. The Mighty Scura is the biggest bike I've had on it, and it is no issue. Yes, the "vise" sucks. I hear from a reliable source that Santa said I've been a *very* good boy and he'll bring me a good one. That said, I have used the vise for several jobs, and with (of course) tie down straps, it's been usable. Seriously.. I bought it to rehab the Lario. For the chump change they cost I could have used it for that one job and thrown it away. Since then, I have had many projects on it. It makes you wonder why you haven't had one for years.

Of course, I've been accused by lucky Phil of having taste for shit, but I'd go with black.

Oops.. sorry about that. A little background. Mory Hummel was a gifted designer/builder back in the day. He was a marvelous metal worker, and his ship had compound curved fairings all over, a gorgeous thing. I'm pretty sure he's no longer with us, but he sold the rights to this company. A (ahem) 93 old friend built one and flew it a few years ago. His 70 year old kid was worried to death, but I told him, "sometimes, you just have to let them do what they want to do.." He just smiled and said, "Yeah, I guess you're right.." Fred loved that little bird and flew it a fair amount. -
That would be a Chuck-idea . . . I would say it was a collaborative effort..

Well, you used to be able to drill a hole in a penny and have a copper washer. Not any more.. I don't know what they make em out of, but it's not copper. -

If a guy's serious about flying a half VW (good little powerplant) I'd consider this well proven design by Mory Hummel. http://www.flyhummel.com/ultra-cruiser A legal part 103 ultralight. Good flyer, and designed by a guy that knows what he's doing. -
Oh, I don't know. Ducati posers are always putting the "latest bling" on their ducks, and many times very low mileage rotors, calipers, etc show up on the bay. I upgraded my Jack All tractor when I put a hack on it to a dual rotor front end with duck Brembo stuff for a little less than 150 bux.

Attaboy, Scud. Pretty soon, pimply faced kids will be looking at you in awe and say, "That got a blower onnit?"
-
You shoulda gotten the proper Harbor Freight sockets.. (Guzzi content) and.. that's what I remember reading on WG.
-
Not really. People *have* used them successfully for that job. Probably with a rattle gun..don't remember, but I have read it on WG. What have I used? Don't remember that either. No doubt made something. I give all the "special tools" I make to my friend Andy who tries to make money working on Guzzis. Whenever I need a special tool, I just go get it.

^^^^ Yes, it *appears* to be a no brainer. That means there is probably something we don't completely understand.

Actually, that's the ticket.

I don't know, but I've been told by guys, that should know, that the S1 Pitts is about as close as a poor man will get. -

Here is a neat Ultra Light that some of you home builders might really like. http://betterhalfvw.com/ POS Sorry, just MHO. -

*I don't know* but I'd expect is is corrosion. I had a fair amount of relay problems with the Mighty Scura when it used to sit for extended periods near the ocean.

Here's my two homebuilt "sporty" airplanes. The low wing was built by me, the Pitts by Ed the Rocket Scientist and me. I would say that flying is "safer" than riding a motorcycle. The pilot of an airplane is much more in control of his own destiny.. but.. inattention can getcha killed. Treetop flying? Not any more.. but it'll get the adrenaline flowing all right. Any more, it's just "hours and hours of boredom punctuated by moments of stark terror." -
Well, there's MGCycle and MGClassics. MGCycle is always on top of the newest stuff. MGClassics (Mark) is still stuck in the Tonti and Loop era. Here's Mark in his meticulously organized shop.. 2016-07-09_01-37-14 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr

Uhhhh, Harper's is generally not your cheapest supplier. That honor goes to M.I. and/or Ida Mae Eish. There's a reason that MGC doesn't want to sell you that $3 part, though.. and you just found it.

^^^^ You've just met another. The Kid used to do it when he was young and stupid.. and said I'd love it once the chute opened. I've always said trying to get me out of a perfectly good airplane would be like trying to poke a spider into a beer bottle.. -
I gots me a can of zinc chromate and I ain't afraid to use it! (Well . . . a little afraid . . . ) You better be afraid.. it goes straight to your liver if you breath it..

Yeah. Good guys, and know their stuff.
