  1. Oh, I'd definitely say you are Sport rated. Unless they are paid for flying, most pilots don't accumulate 4500 hours in their flying career. Here's the thing though.. I've flown and ridden bikes all my adult life. I have most of my hours in what are considered *very* sporty airplanes. I *love* the man/machine relationship of sport airplanes and motorcycles. That said, Nothing I've ever flown does it for me like a bike. There are times that the machine disappears under you. I've never felt that exact same feeling in an airplane, even in the Pitts.
  2. I don't think you can stop a gearoil drip with PBR. Try something dark and smoky from Blueboarhound"s selections in "Mmmmmmmm - beer!" Those drain plugs have a "crush washer?" Maybe time for a fresh one? Ya think?? Although a cheap Guzzista might try to make one out of a PBR can. Oh, BTW, that sump gasket is $3.64 from Cheeshead and Gordon.
  3. Uhh, salesmen have a license to lie. Just sayin. I don't personally think much of it. I buy super glue in little one shot applicators. I've never had any luck with super glue after it's been opened a while.
  4. McMaster Carr motorcycle and airplane supply. FWIW, being a cheap Guzzista, I've had pretty good luck with cleaning those things up well with a wire wheel, solvent, and super gluing them together. After it's cleaned and glue applied, putting pressure on it in a machinists vise until the glue cures is the ticket.
  5. Nice clean installation, Docc..
  6. Ya know.. Docc.. that looks nice. Good job. It'll be a while before it breaks. *Maybe* a long while.
  7. Thanks, Chuck. Good to know. I didn't even add a terminal end in order to minimize the number of connections. Perhaps this latest approach will hold for a good long time. Alternate Method E ! Which begs the question.. What gets used for wire connections in airplanes? Presumably the very best possible, most reliable connection? Can we use them here? Sure we can use them. It's just a crimped connection with an aircraft crimper.. and.. aircraft terminals. Let me dig through my pictures, and I'll be back. Maybe in the morning..
  8. Haha yeah. It's alright though. I've ridden motor scooters and mopeds for a long time if that helps Well, it *does* help. Dirt bikes ridden in anger would be better.
  9. For what it's worth.. the FAA doesn't allow soldered terminals. The solder wicks up the wire and makes it brittle. It'll eventually break right at the terminal with vibration. Just the same.. I don't blame you for doing that. I'd be upset, too..

    Brand-new Scura

When I was first rehabbing the Lario, I asked the Kid what to use to clean the drivetrain with. In another lifetime he was a painter and knows his stuff. When he told me "Superclean" I said, Seriously?? "Yep, you can paint over it." I'm a believer. I cleaned with Superclean.. careful, it's caustic.. rinsed with water, and painted. (!!) Cleanup/paint starts on page 4 Painting on page 6. http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=58695.90
  11. So, Lucas has not replied to my inquiry about their base oils, so i suspect they are nothing special. I've switched to Redline 20w-50 "ester based . . . lubricant with extra ZDDP . . ." Thanks, jharvey, for posting! Two of the most respected members on this forum also recommend Schaeffer oils . I'll have to give those a try one day . . . FWIW, Lucas is an Indiana company. The last oil comparison I read put Lucas pretty far down the list. It's probably still fine to use. Some of the best were Amsoil, Redline, Mobil 1 Vtwin. I use Motul 10-60. It smellsa good..

    Zinc chromate

That's what I had on the Centauro as a solo seat. I probably have a picture somewhere, but Rich Maund did it. As far as the "original" green goes, I've been looking at antique airplanes all my adult life, and the one I posted is close to the same color. Yes, any more there are different colors, even yellow. Back in the day.. it was Guzzi green.
  13. Step away from the machine, lay down the wrench, and nobody gets hurt.. I really wouldn't start mixing and matching different brands. and... synthetic and dino. It's probably ok but... Ya gotta love oil threads. Must be winter.

    Zinc chromate

This is what I used on the levers. It's about as traditional as you'll see, IMHO. http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/cspages/ptiprimers.php?clickkey=90433
  15. I put the pink milk shake in the (old) Lario transmission trying to quiet it down, and it eventually found a way out of about every orifice. Not enough to cause a drip, but you could see it if you looked. I've been running Redline 80-90 (light shockproof) in the transmission and rear drive in the Scura since I've had it. I ran Mobil1 for 10s of thousands of miles in the transmission and rear drive of the Centauro. I'm pretty sure the Kid ran Mobil 1 in your greenie, too. And.. yes.. the EV has the plastic caged bearings in the transmission, as did the Centauro. Didn't seem to bother it.
  16. I've run both Mobil 1 80-90 and Redline 80-90 forever. Of course they are both synthetics, but they don't leak.. for me anyway.
  17. That took some time. Nice work.
  18. Ok, Andy, I have it made. Fortunately, I hadn't torn down the setup or tools to make it so it was easy. You can send me a PM if you can't figure out my email address. This is the last one. Everyone has paid except one. Thanks to all.. I'm shopping for a villa in Italy as we speak.
  19. Monthly. First Sunday at 1pm. You missed seeing Derek's new Red Motus (!) and Roadkylls trike. Joe, the previous keeper of Scud's lemon was there for the last time before moving to Germany, too.
  20. So, Meinolf.. how do I get your map to try on the Mighty Scura?
  21. Well, I didn't start this topic.. it just magically appeared. To answer your questions, flip through the build thread I posted. I just looked at it, got hooked, and spent an hour or so riding down memory lane. It *was* one of the most entertaining projects I've ever done.. For a quick answer, yes, they are similar.. it's Guzzi we're talking about here, forheavinsake.. but different enough to be a little challenging. I learned a *lot* about small blocks, and I hope many others did, too.
  22. Uhhh, it's a *very* long story. Basically, I was alerted to a thread on WildGuzzi that there was a drone engine on Craigslist in Alabama. It was new in the crate, complete with prop drive, fuel injection, etc. I converted it to motorcycle use in the Lario over the winter, using Aero engine, Lario, and V65 parts. There was really no place to package the computer on the bike, so I went with Delorto 36s. The whole thing is documented on WG, and is an epic thread. Many knowledgeable people kept me out of trouble. This video was done by my friend Joe, and was the first start attempt. The Kid came down from Wisconsin, and brought some grappa. We toasted Luigi and lit it off. It ran really well except it needed more fuel at idle. Another turn and a half out on the needle was all it needed. I'd rather be lucky than good.. Here's the thread on WG.. http://wildguzzi.com/forum/index.php?topic=65696.240
