Honestly, I am not yet very concerned with where Marc Marquez goes. He is not the top guy, yet. And he may never be that guy. Time will tell. Who was really impressive in last weekends race was Bagnia. He was amazing. But I get that many are still focusing on Marc because of what he has done on the Honda in the past. He is doing better then he was at the end of his Honda career. But he still is not one of the fastest guys on the Ducati.
Side note, how mean is it that Audi gave Marc an RS6 and only gave Alex an RS4.....
Audi owns Ducati.

On a long trip, particularly on straight roads like interstates, cruise comes in handy to rest your hand and wrist. Usually just for a few minutes. Many of us have throttle locks for the same purpose.

If you have the MAX App (HBO). You can watch the entire weekend, all classes and practice, quals, print & feature.

Looks like all the MotoGP elements, FP, Qualifying, Races will be shown streaming on Max, the BR (Bleacher Report) sports segment. Right now BR is free, if you have Max, but it may be additional $ in the future. TrueTV, which is part of TNT also shows sprint races and the Sunday show. YaY!
OK, I finally figured out MAX and have all those added to my favorites. Great stuff.

The only spot I see that's available for Moto GP is Tru TV at noon - 2:00 central. All they have listed TBA at those times. @GuzziMoto

It sounds like it might be TNT. But it doesn't seem to be final yet.

Still no info whether CNBC will broadcast?

Thanks for your thoughts @PJPR01 Paul. My status is up and down lately.

I haven't been to Dusty's in a couple of years. He wrote me this might be the last spring Guzzi Rally. The old Guzzi guys aren't getting any younger. Covid, WG, and social differences have had an impact too. If you want to see some of the old crowd at one time, this could be it. Not sure I'll have my Greenie out of the shop or even know my status up from down to be there. Looks like Paul is all in. Leroy too.
My last go around, we saw Elon's 60 satellites in the sky and thought the aliens were here. Paul's bike was running hot. Wes pulled the rear of his Cali following my Duc at 100+ after returning from Marland mansion. There's the OZ motorcycle museum, the Pioneer woman's ranch, Phillips museum and the Flowers of the Killer Moon. The big deal, Dusty fries catfish on Sat night.

I didn't think it would be hot with the key off.

It's too late, I've burned up the bike. I'm now a former V11 rider.
I took off the starter. Unfortunately, I only unhooked the battery ground. The hot starter wire grounded on the shock adjuster when I was working on it. I smelled fire and got it free but too late. The electrics are dead. Totally. Fuses are ok but there's melted insulation under the side cover.
So far as the shifter, I was able to get the adjuster off and backed it with an allen head and tighten it. Have no idea about that.
Believe me, I'm sick about it.

OK, I've gotten this, with the starter hanging. What I noticed is that the pivot nut (about 2 o'clock from the red circle) is loose as hech with a lot of play. It appears the nut screws into a pin that attached the adjustable screw arm to the pivot arm below. The problem I'm having, the pin just turns with the nut and there's nothing to garb on the back of the pin. The only way to get behind it is move the lever in the upshift position but there is still nothing to grab the back since it seems to be a smooth pinhead.
Perhaps it's supposed to have this much slack? and I should mess with something else?
OK, looking at Harper's diagram, I see it's a screw and appears to be an allen head. So perhaps I can get an all wrench to hold it while I tighten the nut?

Yeah, I respect his talent but not the man. He showed everyone who he is, and I lost pretty much all respect for him as a person with his behavior.
Another factor is, while he is very fast he is also lacking in respect for others on track with him. He has a tendency to hit others. Sometimes it is because he is not fully in control of his bike, other times he is fully in control but chooses to make contact on the way by even though there may be enough room to do so without contact. I think he feels that contact like that will intimidate others so next time they will give him more room. Dale Earnhardt did the same thing in NASCAR. And I was not a fan of his, either. One possible outcome of Marc being on a faster bike is more people may end up on the ground. I hope not, I hope he is past that sort of riding. But I will believe it when I see it.
Actually, I think Marc's aggressive style has pretty much infected the most of the field. Lot's more blocking and contact now. Frankly, Rossi wasn't known to passive either. I think it's perhaps gone to far and we see more riders calling it out.
Dorna has itself to blame for it, because they've ran interference for the fellow countryman. But '15 was way beyond the pale. Allowing Marc for get away with that and penalizing Rossi, I think that has remained a divisive effect in the paddock. One might remember that the field parted on the last race of '15 to let Rossi through. That's a sign of respect not often displayed.

I admire Marc's talent and his brave come back from injury. I'll cheer for him as a competitor and a contender but it will take a lot more for me to want to see him champion again. What he got away with 2015 ruined the season and ruined the goodwill I had for the guy. If he has a good season and contends for the title, I'm sure that one of the manufacturers will offer him an attractive package. Likely not Ducati unless he wins the title for them against a competitor on another brand of bike.

My brother is on his 2nd one. The first one lunched the timing chain at 70k. That's after a couple of stick coils and few other "things". He liked the bike so much, he just bought another.

I thinking this is beyond what I might do on the garage floor. I don't want to ride it, so to prevent further damage. I might be able to get to the shop in a month or so once the wife is mobile. Thanks for your help. I'll let you all know how it shakes out.

I don't believe "overshifting" has anything to do with the shift linkage docc although always worth looking at of course. More likely the stop adjuster has come loose or it has been fiddled with at some point and has been set on the edge of "overshifting" and as time and wear accumulate it ends up outside the acceptable window of operation. The answer is to remove the side plate and check the whole shift mechanism for faults and while in there replace all the springs and adjust the stop on the bench before it damages the hard to fix internal parts like the gear dogs and/or shifter sleeves.
frankly, that was my fear.
Could you describe accessing the "stop adjuster"?
-
OK, my bones get a little tired laying on the driveway. Given that, it's good to have a game plan rather than me spitballing it.
So my next dumb question regarding the linkage. If I do need to adjust the linkage, since the bike seems to skip over the upshift, I would assume that I should reduce the angle or travel on the mechanism?
-
Thanks for all the help. It seem to be pretty much a problem shifting into 4th gear.
I did check if the nut was tight, it was. I cleaned the mechanism and lubed it. The bike rode the same. Then I changed the fluid. That greenish Shockproof came out. I replaced it with 85-140. My goodness, the tranny is much quieter, no more clunk getting in gear, more positive shifts, except for 4th. I just wonder if I damaged it using that old gear oil? It was noticeably better when I dropped it into first, and the other gears were crisper after riding a few blocks, except for 4th unless I babyed it.
I read the other thread, I suppose the next step is take the cover off and look for that pin?
-
Thanks, I'll check @Lucky Phil
Yes, I did need the photo, double thanks @docc

I'd appreciate some advice regarding the gearbox in my Greenie (2001). The problem I'm experiencing has been skipping upshifts and going to false neutral. It's like shifting from 3rd to 4th, but going past 4th into neutral before 5th. Originally it was occasional 4th-5th and now it's doing it fairly regularly whenever I upshift. Sometimes it gets notching trying to find true neutral as well. It seems to get worse the more I ride, less so when it's cold.
So, first question is changing the fluid, I don't think it's overdue but its been awhile. I can't find straight 90wt anywhere. Picked up some 85W-140. Advice is appreciated, anything super fancy like Shockproof and the like and it will need to be special ordered.
Next question is the linkage. I'd say there's about 1/2 inch slack from bottom to toe up (not counting engagement). Any advice regarding measurement, adjustments and illustrations would be great.
That's as about as far as I can take this before contacting a pro. I've already played with the adjuster on the clutch lever with no affect. It also has a Lucky Phil extender on it. Oddly, I had a shifting problem a few years ago that was similar, I was about to do the same and it cured itself. I just attributed it to poor riding.
Finally, I want to apologize for asking. I'm sure there is something archived. I confess, I've never had luck using the search function here and some of the pinned topics are a bit tedious to understand.

Mine doesn't ping. It has a PC. Likely the timing is a little too advanced and/or lean. I'd guess they were a little aggressive with the re-tune. And a contributor could be a little carbon build up given the age of the engine.
