  1. Went for a nice long ride yesterday - still leaks from the side cover. Guess it wasn't the vent after all. Will remove the starter and do some more sealing...
  2. So I was able to remove the vent from the right side - just needed to fully remove the seat release mechanism and the case bolt with the ground wire. This allowed another 5 degrees of movement with the wrench and made it relatively easy. After a quick clean I blew threw it and no clog. Convinced that there must still be a clog somewhere, I removed the lower horizontal vent and noticed a hole in the tube. I marked the bolt head to correspond with the whole so I could be sure it would align with the hole in the bottom of the vertical vent (see photo). This may not be necessary, but it can't hurt. I then wanted to see what was inside the bore and if there were any clogged holes. The second photo is of a mirror angled into the bore. There appears to be at least one hole further in past the threading, but I couldn't really get to it. I was encouraged that there at least was some gear oil in the bore, so it was at least getting that far. Taking her for a ride tomorrow. Will see if its still leaking from the side case and will let you know.
  3. Ahhh - Approach from the far side! I've been looking for a reason to buy a set of long metric wrenches (only have long SAEs from past TVR and Norton ownership). Thanks for taking the time to help out docc - you're the best. I'm still relatively new to Guzzi ownership, and enjoying every minute thanks to fellow enthusiasts like yourself!
  4. Interesting thought - I don't have any crows feet, but I would be concerned using anything but a socket or box wrench that doesn't get full perimeter bite with this limited access. Ive already slightly slipped a box wrench on it. Dumb question i'm sure - but is the pork chop an integral part of the frame, or just an add-on plate to carry foot controls and pegs? I'm thinking I should remove it for good access to the vent bolt before i damage it any further. Thanks.
  5. Thanks and totally agree. But in this case, its just too tight to fit that little bit of extra thickness my ratcheting box wrench has.
  6. Thanks. Trying to wrench that 17mm bolt without removing the pork chop is "challenging".
  7. Just noticed the photo above got rotated when uploaded. It should be rotated 90 degrees clockwise so the vent is pointing upwards
  8. Could someone kindly confirm that this is the transmission vent? Not easy to get to even with my stubby wrenches. I'm assuming I remove the vertical portion as opposed to what looks like a plug facing rearward. Thanks. Attached photo should be rotated 90 degrees clockwise so vent is pointing up.
  9. Follow up report - took the Scura for a spirited ride over the weekend and after the first 50 miles, no leaks. But victory was short lived - another 50 miles and back in my garage I smelled the all too familiar aroma of gear oil burning on my crossover. The good news is it wasn't coming from the newly sealed shaft bosses, but now coming from the hole with the bolt head midway between the sealed bosses and to the left (see photo above). I double checked my gear oil level which is just a hair below halfway with bike vertical. So i'm now beginning to wonder if it is possible for the vent to get clogged, because that gear oil really seems to wants to escape one way or another. I'm not sure the best way to check for this or how it could get clogged, but if this is a known possible issue, kindly chime in. I can seal around the bolt with something less permanent than the epoxy used above like RTV gasket seal, but want to make sure its not building up more pressure than it is supposed to first..
  10. I suggest going to the Mistral website and contacting them by email. I just did so two weeks ago with a technical question and they replied (in English no less) the next day. Www.mistralspecialparts.it
  11. Thanks very much to docc, thumper, AndyH, and Andy York for your help. So great to have back up on these repairs!
  12. So i did the deed - not my proudest moment of repairs, but i'm guessing it will work. Plus its completely hidden by the starter and cover. I used J-B Weld Original Cold-Weld Steel Reinforced Epoxy. I pushed it into the perimeter recess with my finger best i could and then just smoothed it across the middle. Please note that there were two types of this epoxy at the hardware store. This one is rated for 550 degrees, while the other was only rated for 220 degrees - pays to read the back of the package.
  13. Tried to find it in your posts, but they only showed your last 4. Sorry, but not quite understanding your fix. The dime goes on the inside of the cover? Thanks.
  14. i found this photo ofo the inside of the side cover and instructions in my service manual (missed it first time around). Looks doable.
  15. Thanks AndyH. I just read all the Belfastguzzi threads - wow - very thorough and helpful. I did not see those threads when I did read all the other transmission leaks threads. His photos show the gears attached to the inside of the cover. I'm wondering how those come off, if they need to go back in the exact same rotational position, and if there will be any way to seal them. I see that Harper's sell a plate kit ($130) - I wonder if that comes with caps installed and properly sealed. I'll call them Monday and find out. Meanwhile, i'm of course wondering if there is an easier way out and if anyone has had any luck sealing the caps from the outside...
  16. Decided enough was enough with the slow drip from my 2002 V11 Scura transmission side case onto the crossovers. I removed the starter and found the leak not coming from the perimeter seal, but from the round bearing-looking items in the middle of the cover (see photo). So my first question is - what are these? Are there O-ring seals inside the side cover for them? If possible, I'd like to order whatever parts i need before i go much further. Also, what is the large cap nut just in front of the gear selector (see photo)? That will have to be removed before the side cover comes off - any precautions? Other than first draining the gear oil, is there anything i need to know before taking that side cover off? Any help or suggestions (especially from anyone who has removed there side cover) would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
  17. Nice job. Would be great if you could provide a link to a video once you have it fired up so we can hear it!
  18. Has anyone removed the db killers from their stock La Franconi cans, or are they welded in? Would love to get more sound from the stock exhaust on my 02 Scura without forking over $800+ for Mistrial (unless anyone out there wants to sell me their used Mistrals, that is!).
  19. Selling the custom vinyl seat cover from my '02 Scura. Features a tri-color Italian flag stripe on both sides, and heavily textured center portion. This was made and installed by a professional auto upholsterer by the previous owner. I've installed my own after-market seat covers on other bikes. Its not too difficult if you have a decent staple gun (with short staples installed), and some patience. It can be installed over your current cover if you want. Its in very good condition, no rips or holes. A portion of the underside has a thin layer of the foam that came off from where it was partially adhered to the foam on my seat. Please note: it has two holes cut-in for the attachments to the rear seat cowl. Please PM me for additional photos - could only fit one on this posting. Cover only - seat is not included. $40 plus $5 shipping within continental US. PayPal payment only. Thanks.
  20. In the case of the stock exhaust, the carbon fiber is just a decorative wrap over the stainless steel canister. This is why their so heavy.
  21. For my '02 V11 Scura. Please send me a PM. Thanks.
  22. For my '02 V11 Sport Scura. Must be in excellent condition. Would also trade for my custom seat with Italian flag on side (similar to Corbin). Please send PM. Thanks

I'd be surprised if it didn't fit. And if it doesn't, you could send it back. I'll let you know when I get one.

The previous owner removed the original cover and had an after market skin put on with an Italian red white and green striping on the side (like some Sargent seats I've seen). Not my thing - I prefer the original. I may just have it recovered, but thought if I could pick up a good stock one I'd just sell my seat.
