LowRyter Posted March 17, 2018 Posted March 17, 2018 So if this is a 90 degree Vtwin longitudinal crank, why isn't it predecessor to the original V7?
docc Posted March 17, 2018 Author Posted March 17, 2018 So if this is a 90 degree Vtwin longitudinal crank, why isn't it predecessor to the original V7? Designed by different engineers. Ing. Guilio Carcano has been emphatic (as was Umberto Todero) that the Mulo engine had naught to do with the V700 motorcycle engine they designed, outside of the V configuration.
docc Posted March 17, 2018 Author Posted March 17, 2018 Anybody tells you that your V11 donk started out in a tractor, bet lots of beer otherwise! 3

po18guy Posted May 18, 2021 Posted May 18, 2021 Water? It could well have been intended for use as a beer pump. As to Hondas, here is the nicest CX cafe I have seen. 53 Motorcycles in the UK. 4
docc Posted June 9, 2021 Author Posted June 9, 2021 Kudos to author Robert Smith for getting the origins of the Moto Guzzi big twin right in this December, 2020, article on an interesting Eldorado for Motorcycle Classics magazine: https://www.motorcycleclassics.com/classic-italian-motorcycles/zm0z21jfzols/ "(That the V7 engine was developed from Guzzi’s “mechanical mule” military project is now refuted by most authoritative sources, including marque specialist Greg Field in his book Moto Guzzi Big Twins.)" 4 2

4corsa Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 This came up today on the Cafe Racer Magazine Instagram feed. Thought it was perfect to post under "Origins of the V11 Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk 3 3
Coppa53 Posted September 19, 2024 Posted September 19, 2024 I suspect at one time there was connection between Lambretta, (transfer of knowledge?) and Moto Guzzi. Back in 1953 Lambretta , not Vespa manufactured a 250 GP Racer. 4 1

docc Posted Sunday at 09:21 PM Author Posted Sunday at 09:21 PM Again, more confirmation through our good man, @v11_meticcio, with images and reference to the origins of our V11 motor from the SALA MOTORI (engine room) of the Moto Guzzi museo in Mandello . . . 2 2
Pressureangle Posted Monday at 01:39 PM Posted Monday at 01:39 PM After having a BMW for 20k miles now, and a little history, it's my belief that BMW and MG have worked closely together for some time; not partnership, but fundamentals. In the beginning of the Italian V-twin era, I think everyone saw how sound the BMW flat twin was, the shaft drive, and removed the biggest impediment to racing them- the flatness. Plus, being Mountain Italians they gave them frames that worked and of course instantly recognized the romantic sound. Looking at the Lambretta frame above, it's clear that it's very similar to Aermacchi frames. I think the Bavarians and ItAlpians went to the same schools. Or ski trips, or wars, or something. 3
