Surprisingly it doesn't look that "bad" considering the time it was underway with no fluid, and none of the teeth are actually missing.  As you've been driving it without any noticeable increase in noise as well since then and no noticeable performance issues either, had you just bought the bike in this condition, you may not have even noticed that it was worn down like this.  That suggests this is tough metal to begin with and can take a fair amount of abuse.

It's almost a wear and tear item...who knows what it looked like before the mishap.

You can see the metal has lost its surface treatment, and the teeth had metal being torn apart.

Yes, it does look a bit rough. I hope the replacement looks better. :)

Both Davey and Mike said if it was theirs, they would not replace it.

But yes, how did it look before?

The one that I purchased will help for the evaluation.

I wouldn’t trust my life to it.

hmm...

I am waiting for the eBay one, said to reach me sometimes around the 7th of June.

If the bevelled box is too beaten up, and I don't like it aesthetically, then I will get the current one reconditioned with a set of new gears.

It does not matter the cost; where I am going, I will not need money anymore.
