  1. Ran the battery flat. I rode it "the long way around" to work today. "Work" is in the Leipzig Opera House. As I was taking off my helmet, the Opera Director came past on his way to work. He greeted me, and commented on the bike and so on. As a result, I wasn't concentrating when I turned the key to engage the parking lock. I reckon I turned it all the way to "parking lights". When I tried to start it to go home after work, nothing. Fortunately: There are some tools under the seat. This occurred to me in time to stop me from just going home in a huff, and I took the battery out. I was all set to take the battery home on the tram, carrying the helmet and far too warmly dressed. Then it occurred to me that we (the sound and video department of the Opera House), by lucky coincidence related to a production that is running at the moment, have a CTEK battery charger set up ready to go in our storeroom. And I could leave the helmet and the excess clothing in my locker at work. So I went back in, plugged the battery onto the charger, and left the excess baggage in my locker. Hopefully, when I go back in tomorrow around midday after the forecast rain has stopped, I'll be able to put the battery back in and ride the bike home. And hopefully, the battery is not defunct. Also, I noticed when taking the battery out that the - terminal wasn't done up particularly tightly. The bonus would be that that is the cause of the starting problems it has been having. We'll see. More likely, I'll have to get a new battery, I reckon.

  3. Skip, sorry to get back with you so late but have been out of town with the family. We have some people camping at the campground at the State Park, we the 3 bedroom cottage that sleeps 7, at this point w Bill's scheduling issues we have 3 people set for the cottage with the tech sessions garage. As long as I can sleep on the couch out of the rain, were good, welcome all, just PM me. The Mary Ray Oaken Lodge has the restaurant and plenty of rooms to accommodate the spring Kentucky Spine Raider's, 270-433-7431. Bill, You are absolutely correct, the BMW of Nashville Euro Rider's Rally will be held in Burkesville KY at the same time as the Guzzi Spine Raid. This was completely coincidental with my spine raid idea adviser and myself, but hey it means that their will be plenty of cool bikes riding around the area. The Euro Rally is held in the city park and is camping with a bath house. By the end of the weekend I'm sure many will be over to kick tires in the tech session bourbon garage. * As for all interested in attending, now is the time to book a room. We are going to have a great time kicking tires, sipping bourbon and enjoying riding the local curvy roads. * I plan on being onsite Friday morning of the 19th, to open up the cottage/garage. If you need any more info feel free to PM me, thanks.

  6. Here is a good trick. When trying to revive a dead battery , connect a good battery in parallel w/the dead battery as you were going to jump start . These two batteries need to be the same . Lead acid , AGM , etc. Now hook your charger to the good known battery and put your charger on high and let charge for about an hour , then set on low and leave for a day or two. When you are finished , load test the battery and see if your battery passes muster. Remember , all connections have to be perfect.

  8. Installation complete and road tested. All is well. Dial and needle lighting go thru switched power, the GPS runs direct to the battery. Was surprised that the GPS current draw (pre- and post signal acquisition) was just over 100mA, which explains why my battery was so low after sitting for two days. Fortunately, I can break the connection to the battery easily to avoid running it down. Oh...Speedhut is discontinuing their current gauge models ("EL lighting") and replacing them with "LED lighting" 1 May 2023. They will look different at night, so if you're running a Speedhut/OEM combo and thinking of replacing the OEM in the future, you might want to get your order in. I was also told the face of the new gauge has a slightly different "texture" and will also not match. On the plus side...no inverter required for lighting!

  10. There is a bloke in the German forum that has the following in his signature: "If God had meant motorcycles to be clean, there would be detergent in the rain".
