  1. I've been sharing this tip with others exploring the charging needs of the V11. After I recently replaced far too many components, I ran a direct wire from the battery to the Reg/Rec, and all is well. This additional positive lead was all it needed to behave as intended. I've since put a few thousand miles on the bike, some fairly lengthy rides, not a problem! Best to you, @orangem2

  2. Private equity can be good or bad. It can provide funds for growth and expansion. But it can also focus too much on returns (profits). If that happens, a common path is to increase profitability by cutting costs. That often leads downwards, to eventual destruction of the brand.

  5. Brings to mind the Moto Guzzi ownership by Trident Rowan Group 1996-1999, possibly related to "Finprogetti" assuming ownership from DeTomaso as early as 1994. This ("private equity group?") ownership is what produced the 1999-2001 V11 Sport, somehow integrating the design of Luciano Marabese, before Ivano Beggio/"Aprilia" assumed ownership around 2000-ish. Very interesting to look at the 1994-1999/2000 transition period at Moto Guzzi, considering the model development in that time. It is hard to say that killed any motorcycles. In fact, it spawned quite a few new models and effectively saved Moto Guzzi until the Piaggio ownership took over around 2005, twenty years ago, now! Approaching DeTomaso's twenty-three year tenure, 1973-1996, but nowhere near the Parodi's forty-five year ownership (1921-1966).

  8. Yes submersable hose but this is what you really need as normal 5/16 injector hose doesn't like to bend as sharply as is required in the space available. You can buy the pump off these guys as well. Ducati pumps are the same as are many others. https://www.euromotoelectrics.com/product-p/fp-hosekit.htm

  9. If you do need to replace the in-tank hose you want to buy a segment of hi-pressure fuel line that is submerged . It does matter ! And that is a good price on the pump assy.

  10. Yes pump is shot. They are dirt cheap to buy with new filter and hose. I'm assuming it's an in tank pump on an 03 model? I've had the exact same issue on an in tank pump. I got it working again with some WD40 in it but replaced it anyway. I was selling the whole pump assy and thought I'd check it before I shipped it so at the end of the day the buyer got a brand new pump. Sold it to someone here I think. Phil

  11. Still have to fab up positive and negative wires from the terminal strips to the battery... and velcro strips so the terminal strips do not move. But I will have only 2 connections to each battery terminal. No stock wiring had to be altered in any way for this to work. Comments? Also, I am going to run the batterytender harness off the starter terminals to keep it clean. New PC545 with brass L brackets will go in when done.

  14. Indian brand has been owned by many different companies, I own an Italian made Indian labeled dirt bike from the 1970’s bought for me in the 80’s when I was a child. Pertaining to Polaris ownership of Indian, I don’t think they wanted to “sell out” to the Chinese, so selling a majority stake to a PE with real estate and media portfolio seemed to make sense. With tariffs and other worldly pressures, HD & Indian’s bread and butter high end bagger global & domestic sales are down, making PE a good option for a soft landing (before default?) I am just glad that Moto Guzzi is building bikes in a new factory in Mandello del Lario….

  15. We (company) just went to our bank for a short-term building loan. By the time it was over, I had to decline; I had to put up my *personal* assets against the loan. I told them, 'if I'm a corporation and you're a corporation, and my corporation needs a loan and you're in the business of loaning, and my corporation is viable with cash flow and assets, why should I expose my personal assets? After all, the primary function of incorporating is to separate the two". The response was at it's base, "Government regulations now demand it. We have no discretion". So that's the primary reason Private Equity has gained so much traction and market share. We just went out to PE, showed them our prospectus for the new building, and got the money. Simple papers, no hooks, no mountain of IRS returns, officer affidavits, etc. Just cash and business. Terms were agreed in about 10 minutes. Penalties in 5 more. Too easy- but, a predatory or dishonest PE could be Satan. As probably many are.

  16. its just a motorcycle... nothing exotic about this bikes charging system at all. Regular charging system, just like thousands of other bikes out there. Stator output, regulator output, condition of wiring and connectors, relays etc... its a 22 year old bike with a 6 year old battery... this is more preventive maintenance than anything. I have 9 other bikes in the garage that i get 4-5 years out of each battery using the nefarious (LOL) Deltran Battery Tender and will NOT be using a PC545 battery because of its "unique" charging needs... and i STILL got 6 years out of it LOL New relays and Motobatt MBTX12U on the way....

  17. Interesting content. He basically explains Private Equity until 4:50, then starts talking about it in the motorcycle industry after that. I didn't know Dianese and Revzilla are PE owned. The damage to companies caused by short-term profit seeking is not limited to PE-back organizations, but IMO there is perhaps a higher concentration there. While I don't think it's fair to call out PE as a category as bad, it is fair to speculate on whether the new PE owner will make good or bad decisions with the brand. And then he says Indian is a "heritage" brand. This may be an unpopular opinion, but I don't think today's Indian has much of heritage. Maybe they have some respect for the original company, but Indian has gone out of business several times. Today's Indian motorcycle company has nothing to do with the original company with the exception of having bought the intellectual property rights (name, etc.) after string of prior IP owners failed. That's not a legacy. Same with Triumph and other brands that have been rebooted by investors who acquired the brand name. And another thing, I found this guys's video making style disturbing. Talking with his hands while controlling the motorcycle with one hand on the bars. Man, talk about distracted driving... Good on him if he can do it, but I would have a hard time paying attention to traffic and the road while narrating a video.

  18. Your "battery tender" probably doesn't speak Hawker Odyssey fluently. A Hawker (EnerSys) approved charger is the ticket. Otherwise, 1000 rpm is rather low for a V11, IMO. Plus, anything above 2500 rpm or so should see 13.8-14.2 volts. Stand by for TMI . . .
