  1. I do not think it would work very successfully given the older linked braked bikes had similar size calipers front and rear. I feel that the California's system proportioning valve when used with a smaller V11 rear caliper would result in a much larger rear brake bias than it should be. Our bikes have a 11mm diameter rear master cylinder while the California uses something like a 15/16mm diameter one. My V65 had linked brakes and I could not fault the set up at all. Rob
  2. Dale, This a post by Scud relating to the fuel filter. I cut and pasted it, haven't figured out how to use the "quote"feature yet. OEM Part Name: Fuel Filter - with external pump and filter on frame, 2002 and earlier Moto Guzzi Part Number: 30106000 Replacement Part Brand or Source: Wix (and probably several other brands) Part number: 33310 Fits Isuzu Trooper, all years Differences from OEM: Shorter and smaller diameter Other Comments: The OEM filter rubs on the tank, this smaller filter should not rub on the tank. This is a good time to replace the fuel lines. You need about 6 feet of 5/16 (8mm) high pressure line for fuel injection. Cut the line from pump to filter a bit longer - to reach the shorter Wix filter. While you're at it, install solid clamps (not the worm-gear kind that cut into the fuel line). I found this filter referred to by others on the forum, some said they wrapped it in electrical tape to increase the diameter and hold it snugly in the two clamps. However, I found that the rubber sheet that insulates the shock reservoir (part #00823915045) is a perfect fit as a second layer on top of the original sheet of rubber. Rob
  3. That will work along with a multitude of others that cross reference to the original but it is ultimately up to you what you filter you fit along with your choice of oil. Rob
  4. Has anyone tried or thought of fitting one? I would just like to get a few thoughts about one. I feel the older LeMans models that are fitted with one have a different sound compared to the later model 1100's.The merging style of the present style of crossovers must influence the exhaust note to some degree. I have fitted a used Stucchi crossover and Neptune mufflers but am not 100% happy with the sound compared to the stock system. Rob
  5. You have replaced your throttle cable, is this binding somewhere or needs adjusting to let the throttle stay closed properly when idling? When it idles at 1300 try moving the linkage arm under the right hand side throttle body to see if this will slow idle down. Rob
  6. I have a WIX 51348 which is a cross referenced match to a Bosch 3330 and a Group7 V241 which I have successfully used in the past. On the same cross referencing site a WIX 51215 matches a UFI 2328700. From WIX's site the 51348 has a smaller micron capacity than the 51215, 15 to 21 microns. Less burst pressure, 275 to 325 PSI and is described as enhanced cellulose material as opposed to cellulose of the 51215. Interestingly WIX describe the 51215 as Full Flow but not the 51348, however both have the same flow rate of 7 to 9 GPM. Rob
  7. TomekSZ, Check the alternator is working, charge the battery first then measure voltage at battery terminals with engine running should be about 14v at about 4000rpm. Could be alternator or voltage regulator problem. Rob
  8. Not sure if this of any help but I get an ugly blackish discharge on my exhaust in a similar position to yours which is just sooty water on a cold start. Just water condensing from the exhaust running down the inside of the pipe and escaping where the pipe is slotted at the end. Really ugly but harmless. Rob
  9. Cabernet, What risers are you planning on using? Giving the handlebar conversion a lot of thought myself but cannot locate a set of risers tall enough. Any thoughts on this. Rob

  11. I have found Penrite to be very upfront about what their oil contains. These guys have the balls to state what is in their products not like the majority of the big players. I guess that is the advantage of being a family owned business rather than being huge multi national types who presumably put profit before people, in doing so let you believe what you want to about their oils. The oil guy website doesn't interest me when I can read off my 20 litre pail of Penrite MC4ST 15W-50 "PAO Ester Synthetic Shear Free Full ZInc". This synthetic motorcycle oil is a replacement for my previously used Castrol Activ 4T also a 15W-50 oil but a mineral type. Penrite's website goes into great detail about all their products, here I found this oil met their recommendations for both of my bikes and 4 wheeler as well so it was a no brainer to grab a 20 litre. Rob
  12. Scud, I will grab the last one, straight to N.Z. if possible. Rob
  13. 15,000 km and it wasn't worn out, that is twice the distance that I can knacker a tyre in, I am amazed. Is it just the PR3 or just your road surfaces and riding style? Rob
  14. C'mon guys let nip this in the bud.Where this topic is heading is not welcome. Not having these discussions on this forum is what makes it so special. Rob
  15. Roy, trying to PM you. You cannot receive any messages at the moment. Rob
  16. A Motobatt MBTX12U spins my crank.
  17. nobleswood, yes. There is only one Invercargill, now home to the world's fastest Indian, which was also infamously described by Mick Jagger during a Rolling Stones tour in the early sixties as "the arsehole of the world".
  18. Years ago I used a liquid correction pen and wrote S L N E I on my relays from front to back. It was that long ago their meaning was lost to me but thanks to Roy and one of his usual super informative postings it all makes sense to me now. Gottagetone with all the prodding and poking changing relays have the connections at the bottom of the relay board been compromised in some way? The relays might be fine but the contacts acting up, just a thought. Rob
  19. Zooter, You can use a piece of 100x100 or similar between the sump and a small trolley jack successfully. I made up a wooden stand a little higher than sump level when the bike is vertical. Once the bike was lifted with the trolley jack I lowered it down onto my wooden stand. The sump is the balance point so if you want to take the rear wheel off lift from the front of the sump and lower the bike onto the stand placed at the rear of the sump. Lift rear and use stand at front to remove the front wheel. I have only taken one wheel off at a time if you plan to do both at once then you will need something more substantial. What part of the country are you in, your profile doesn't give much away at all. Rob

    Gone Guzzi

Sorry to hear such distressing news, good to know you and your canine family are ok and your house is still with you. Rob
  21. What happens when the oil filter becomes loose? A lot of people advocate fitting a hose clamp to the filter to prevent the possibility of this occurring. Could this be the issue here? Rob
  22. Congrats on your purchase. I am using a 10w-40 m/c specific oil in mine but will soon be changing to another motorcycle specific10w-50 synthetic soon. The low pressure oil light issue on acceleration does not affect everyone, I wouldn't put any extra in myself. I have always zeroed my tripmeter when refuelling and gone to about 150 miles before filling up again. never had a low fuel light from new and never bothered about it. Quantity about 5 and a half of your gallons. 6 and 8 thou sounds about right for the valve clearances from memory. Rob
  23. Points on your driving licence 12 and you are a pedestrian perhaps. An 11 pointer would be someone on the cusp of losing it then.
  24. Martin, this series has made the news here in N.Z. as a police officer has been suspended from duties for forwarding an e-mail containing everything you posted. Some people definitely lack a sense of humour but the top brass are saying it is a case of misusing the police e-mail system. Rob
