    Griso test ride

There are at least three FCR equiped 1100 sports locally I know of it seems to be pretty popular mod (with good !@#$ing reason) Athough 1100 sports are comming up for sale less and less. There are also quiet a few RS daytona's kicking around.
  4. Got off my rear and finally took the Demo that is avalible for a shortish ride. Seat is low and the tank splays your knees at an odd angle the foot pegs are very high I'm only around 5'11" people with longer legs might find things a bit cramped otherwise the riding postion was excellent. Clutch realeases very late and even with the lever on its closest setting I found it diffcult to regulate. Engine is very smooth and flexiable gear selection is very good and the bike tips into corners easily. However when power through a corner the front end produces a slight vague feeling like there is not quiet enough wieght over the front wheel its probally could be dialed out with the suspension adjustment but kudo's for Guzzi getting the geometry right and getting the bike to tip in and change direction so well. At highway speeds there is plenty of windblast and at enthusatic speeds I' sure you'll be doing your best impression of a windsock. The motor yes well until today I hadn't ridden ethier of the new twin plug 1100's the injection was smotth and flexiable the motor did spin up reasnably well but the troque and grunt out of the corners seems to gone MIA. With the lighter internals and fuel injection I was expecting something close to my FCR equiped 1100 sport. Yes and no its spins up close to what my 1100 sport does (my sport's motor is stock) the motor on the Griso I rode was only around 300kms old but it had nowhere near the kick that my old sport has I found this to be the most disappionting bit of the whole bike. The motor is smooth and functional but certianly doesn't have the bite of the old sport motors. It they stick this version in a MGS-01 frame and call it a sport bike it will be a traversty if it actually sold at all. I do however think the motor has the potential to work in the Dual pourpose bike that is circulation on the rumour mill. There are a lot of things that this bike does a lot better than my current Guzzi athough my bike now is 11years old and thats not exactly going out on a limb. However if I am going to replace my 1100sport I want to ungrade it not take a step sideways. No I'm not signing up for one anytime soon. Anyway thats my impressions Just out of curiostiy has anyone ridden one of these with some breathing mods, wondering how choked up the motor is to get past Euro 3 emissions.
  5. Drifting off topic Hmm Toyota the Mcdonalds of car manufacturers. I have the misfortune to use Toyta 78 series tropp carriers for work our company currently has six of them none have over 115 000kms. Toyota obiously realising thier sales have started dwidling in the aera have started a toyota tough anything else is pretend. These things shovel through more fuel than I though possible to fit through a 4.2 desiel on the Highway. Overtaking a Truck doing a 100 is a scary 5km exercise anything that resmebles a serious slope requires low range quiet often a bit of clutch abuse and if its vaguely soft underneath they go striaght to the axels. The end of year service's on one vehicle required the rear diff to be rebuilt as it was howling it guts out another needed a rebore and rings, we had a dead clutch in one other vechile and a new radiator. Our vehicle do run around at the manufacters wieght limit but supposely these are commecial working vehicle. Lets not mention the rubbush plastics they use for the overflow bolltles that go brittle and crack in the heat of the engine bay. Consider the price they charge for these things there is no way I would ever touch one. Eh thats my rant anyway.
  6. The urinal term might not of orginated in Australia but the story goes that because the urals were designed to run in extremely cold climates the carbes and intakes were heated in some way to stop the fuel freezing. Bring it to a warmer climate and you have a recipe for vapour lock obiously, some hardy soul wandering back from a rallie in the dazed and confused state decied to cool them down by doing the buiness on them. Dunno sounds good to me.
  7. 97 Ford Falcon staion wagon, I don't think they could of sucked the life out of the driving experince any further hate to think what the auto is like. By far the most modern and expensive car I have owned, which gives you a window into the heaps I normally have had. Redeming features it will tow and carries lots of stuff without been a complete barge to drive, excellent for getting supermotard to the track with affiliated gear that goes along with them. I drive 78 series landcruisers for work If I never drive one again it will be too soon, there was no way I was ever going to get a 4wheel drive for everyday. No my car doesn't match my bike I've actually nick named it the fridge, its a big white box and as intresting to drive as my fridge. Buts thats ok having a average car allows more to be spent on odd brand bikes that no one has heard of.
  8. They both taste great! aprox 14 million Kangaroos in Australia we're not running out of them any time soon.
  9. Depends quiet a bit on the Textile jacket you have there is quiet a bit of vairiation out there and some are fairly cheap and nasty. For touring day to day riding its pretty hard not to go past a quality textile jacket nowdays. I have had a Tiger Angel elements for a number of years now and its an excellent do everything jacket. Its the first piece of motorcycle clothing that is 100% water proof with the liner removed its cool in summer and with the liner in warm in winter. Its even had a couple of minor excursions down the road and came up very well. Probally the only real criticism of these type of garments is witht he extra room they have for a removable lining they do tend to flap round a bit at errmm ethusiastic touring speeds. Not cheap but I highly recommend them Tiger Angel I am not affiliated with the company in any way just one very happy customer. This jacket has also held up a lot better that some of the more touted BMW touring gear however after having a set of thier gloves I'll never go near thier stuff again. For predicatble weather and more open roads I tend to use the leather I have for racing I was so happy with the textile jacket I got a Tiger Angel race suit (leathers is thier main buiness) custom made and on the bike its excellent. The best bit I foud was for me I can ring them up they are only on the other side of the country and talk to them arrange repairs etc etc In english usally at worst couple of weeks turn around (half of that is probally postage). A lot of stuff is made in India and Pakistan and China now while the prices are very compedative the back up service doesn't seem to be there. Ok so for the orginal poster get a good quality textile jacket it will probally meet your needs the best, unless you want to start doing track days on a regular basis.
  10. The spokes don't go to the outter edge of the rum al la BMWGS Cali EV (some models). I looked at the little picture and figured they had rim locks on it but no thats genuinly tape arround the spoke ends.
  11. With tubes you usally run the tyre preasures 8-10 PSI lower as they run a lot hotter.
  12. Its really simple they are upgrading thier Harleys! Sorry couldn't resist!
  13. Go here its just so wrong its right.
  14. 1500 is actually in the ball park the motard boys are regularly dropping that probally a bit more on a new set of spoked 17inch rims athough usally includes brakes. Yes they would be a pain to keep clean not tubeless ethier.
  15. $1400 AUD not USD oh bugger AUD is actually worth something now couple of years ago that would of set you back 700USD. Now its probally closer to $1000USD.

I recently looked into whats involved with importing a MGS-01 (the secound hand one from the UK). Obiously not to many road worthy problems with a track bike. I had to aquire an import liecencse which was the princly sum of $50 then had to prove I was ethier going to race it or display it as a unique machine. With my motard efforts I have a couple of meets with the historics to my name I can wander round in the thunder bike class for a couple of meets and then disappear into obscurity. I also had to pay GST which was %10 of the purchase price which worked out at around 3-4K on the MGS-01. I don't see how a Scura athogh a nice bike not an anyway worth what a MGS-01 would be 5k. There also used to be a system of personal import where if you could show that its your bike and you have owned it for over a staturary time (think it was around 6 months) it came in duty free. Athough I'm already here so things might be different.
  17. If I was going to cross the nullabour on a bike for an international race it would be the WSBK. Its just better pity the TV coverage is so rubbish the sad thing there is a group that watch the moto GP's on a large screen at a local establisment. The pub and a couple of the guys tried to get the same thing happening for the WSBK no one came never mind the racing was ten time better and the bikes were actully like the ones parked out the front. I wouldn't hold out too much ofr Petronas thier previous factory rider is the 2005 champion on a Suzuki (Troy Corser). Its about 2700kms to Adeliade from Perth Adeliade to Melbourne is around 800 and then the island is a mere hour and bit down the road from Melbourne. Depends on how much of a hurry you are in but its usually around 3-4 days each way on a bike at least.

Umm no I'm not convinced she is a woman. Johnny is far more likely me thinks.
  19. I have an older 1100 sport carbed model. The roads around here are pretty open very little tight and twisty and the little that is around is pretty heavily patrolled. So we play on the open roads most of the people I ride with have modern sports bikes, Four valve Ducati's, R1's, Fire Blades, Kawa's etc etc. While admittedly not a lot know how to use them the result is the Guzzi spends a lot of its time with everything wound in usually in the top two gears. Whilst I'm not claiming to be a gun rider I have never come across a phenomon that could be related to frame flex on the 1100 sport I have now done 110 000kms across two bikes. The forks are pulled through the tripple tree a little (5mm) the steering dampener is removed and the static sags have been set up right. Ive also done a few track days and agian never came across anything that resembled frame flex. I severly doubt the V11 suffers from such a thing the recent bikes with the handle bars, Balibo's cafe sports etc may carry on because the bars shift the wieght aft and unloads the front wheel especailly if you have more comfort than sport dialed into the suspension. I really havn't felt the need to beef up the frame on the 1100 sport beef up the engine yes but not the frame the same frame also saw duty in the much heathier (hp wise) 1000Daytona RS and Daytona Racing. Ok rant over save your money go do a few track days.
  20. Dunno what to say it will hit pretty hard here the mtorosport comunity is pretty tight the adventure racing comuntiy ever tighter.
  21. The Spazzy's, The Living end, Wolfmother, Paul Mac, Rammstien, Le Tigra, Hoodu Guroo's, Melincolin sp? Jet , Buterfingers. Eh that will keep you busy for a bit.
  22. Andy Caldecot got the first african stage.
  23. Suggest you try the search function bottom LHS of this window. Don't trust the manual?? Umm they designed it genrally they would know.
  24. It does I have a carbed 1100 sport. The current two valve ie the twin spark motor produces less overall hp than the V11's while the extra spin up speed is handy its still got to push itself throught he air especally as the speeds increase. With the prevalance of people attending track days any road going MGS should be able at least cut it with the 1000ss DS and 748/9 brigade. The current motor won't do that, my bike with race carbs and full race exhaust won't do that, need something to take the next step me thinks. I don't care what the question is the answer is more power!
  25. We get a british based half hour highlights package in the afternoon on the local TV. Unfortantly in half an hour they barely cover where they went and the results in the bike car and truck division. The less mainstream divisions just don't get a look in. Does anyone know what the actual issue was with DAF? the team manager wasn't giving much away other than the organisers told them they couldn't compete at the very last moment. Andy Caldecot 9th after day one not bad for basically a privateer.
