The OP posted these two RevCounter behaviors, independent of the horn:
"Sometimes the rev counter may not go at all. When the rev counter doesn't go the motor will occasionally briefly cut out."
"When the motor is idling the rev counter may indicate zero revs but if you apply some revs the rev counter will go."
Back to asking the OP about Relays 1 and 2 . . .
otherwise, we are going down the Grounding Rabbit'ole . . .
Thanks for that. Word is my new bolts are (still) on the way. It really is way too cold here to ride, and they are brining the roads, so all is well.
I suppose I do worry about doing something stupid I do that sends my shaft loose at speed.
So, I got the two pinch bolts for the shaft ordered from another source.
Frustrated, I ran a die down the two original 8,8 bolts. Does this act damage the integrity of the fasteners?
Roper plates are, of course, a fine idea. That the lack of one would kill a V11 at 4,000 miles would put me on my twenty-sixth engine . . .
Oil filter connection failure is a far more documented cause of oil starvation, it seems.
That is what I was thinking: 2002 with the wiring harness change. But, as Chuck sez, not precisely at that instant, more like when the bin went empty.
All the RedFrame Sports and Rosso Mandello likely started with the "electric cock."
Sure would be nice if Mike Rich would be more forthcoming. As far as i know, he is the most experienced with these modifications in the USA?
I know of riders that have had really good results with his work.
I expect my original 106,000+ mile valve cover gaskets (not leaking) are simply part of the heads now and I should just layer on another set if the occasion ever arises . . .
Kinda like roofing an old house in The South (US).
Yeah, man, I recall that. The whole camshaft thing seems to turn into a rabbit hole . . . change the cam-> change the valves -> springs -> headwork -> porting-> pistons-> yadda-yadda . . .
Seems a lot for a 10% gain. Along with the possible driveability tradeoffs. Maybe why there are so few who can share actual experience.
You could become the world's foremost expert on this!
Well, you nailed it, man: 25+ kg
Or, translated into the local vernacular: SIXTY-FREAKIN'-POUNDS!
No wonder the V11 responds well to "Arse oop. Hed doon," as Joey Dunlop once said . . .
The Alcantara seat on the LeMans looks great!
I really (really) want to recontour and recover the Sport seat in "bomber jacket" leather.
Sounds like I could end up with a "whole hide" and gradually resurface my entire life in "bomber jacket" leather . . .
That occurred to me,too, but it would only be part of the swingarm since its attached to the frame side plats. Not sure how one would calculate the weight distribution of the swingarm.
It's really a wonder the V11 handles as well as does. Once the sags are sorted, that is . . .
Flinky horn and flinky rev counter? Hm. Same relay(s). Or their base connections.
Fuel pump is on an entirely separate wiring harness.
Another fail point could be the battery voltage and charging (although, charging also depends on Relay 2) .
cash, which OMRON did you install?
Yeah, man. I remember no one ever figured this out before. There are the discrepancies we discovered and Rich's specification about modifying the heads to run his cam.
Have a go at Relay #2 (counting from the front). Because your (delicious ) Rosso Mandello is an early V11, that current also passes through Relay #1 (front).
Be certain you are running High Current OMRON relays and just treat your little lady to a full set! It is Christmas after all!
