You should of hooked up with her on Christmas and get the two for one obligation out of the way. You'll be riding with us in spirit. Looks like due to the weather the meeting got pushed back to noonish at the lookout. But weather forcasts are for rain about 3pm so, one may want to get there earlier.

Thats why I buy good tools and I do wear good protective gear and regularly check my tire pressure. I know, some of you are so talented you could ride your Guzzi across an ice skating rink while wearing flip-flops and no helmet. I am not that talented, I hate riding in the rain, I am a below average athlete, my bowling average is less than 150 after seven years of bowling weekly, my softball fielding average is worse than the girls on the team, but I keep trying, and likewise, I am not giving up riding, just being careful, and knowing my limits.

I think they are all still in the pub. It just past midnight there...or wait, I guess it about 5:15am January 1st, 2006 in Sidney now. And they may not be getting up early today. Happy New Year!
-
I can't imagine the mix of gas, oil, atf, dogpiss, and antifreeze that is all over the road is good for a tire either. But I think brake cleaner would be a no-no. Just working with that stuff eats through latex gloves in seconds. Are tires today, more like Nitrile or Latex?

No wonder I could not find the pub, and your parts bike

Attaboy, Carl! And a happy New Year to you too!

Not if you crash it. I'd like to think that I'll always break the tire in cautiously, but I find it unnerving taking the first few turns and trying to get deeper and deeper into the turns. On a race track or a country road it is pretty easy. All you have to do is be patient, but doing it on city intersections is not one of my greatest pleasures. Also, I wonder if one of the reasons my chicken strips are so large is that my chicken strips are so large, if you know what I mean...I almost feel like letting a better rider break my tires in for me.

Come on San Diego people, post your location. We need more midnight guzzi part depots. And while you are at it, could you please post photos of your family with full names, mother's maiden names birthdays, social insurance numbers, etc. I am not paranoid, I know they are out to get me. Which is why I go fast, yah, thats the ticket. EDIT oh, it is only as accurate as zip code. I'm in, great idea! I take back everything I said above. My mother's maiden name is Laing(yes I am an inbred) My birthday is April Fool's Day. My social security number is !$#%&*#$$&* But seriously, why do people blank out license plate numbers. Aside from them being ugly, how might I fall victim if I publish the number in a photo on the web?

I would not put anything less than colavita in mine. But you'd be much better off with course filtered extra extra extra virgin cold pressed from north of marin, but south of Mt Shasta. MMMmmmmm, now that I think about, isn't extra virgin olive green the perfect bike color? With a pomodoro marinara red frame, and Chianti anodized billet pieces!

PS I would NOT go with a design like the Quota. I'll bet a 2into1into2 like the V11 with Stucchi or a 2into1 design like Enzo's design would unleash the top-end on the Quota.

I have never heard an expert talk much about V-Twins and 2 into ones, but it seems to me that the challenge is to not have the cylinders interfere with one another. To my mind it seems to be common sense that X crossovers will do better than H crossovers because the X can allow the exhaust gases to stay in the direction of the muffler ports. For this reason, I believe the Stucchi crossover is the best for the V11. Captain Nemo, AKA Enzo's cobra muffler nicely funnelled the two exhausts into the one muffler, so there was little restriction or cross interference between each cylinder's exhaust gasses. I think if you follow that logic and make it loud, you will do fine. But common sense can mislead. I have considered going the other direction and doing a two into two with no crossover, so there would be no cross cylinder interference. And likewise go with pod filters for the same reason. The key being to make the filters big and the mufflers big and free flowing(ie.loud). Otherwise top end power will be lost. In anycase MotoGuzzi programmed into the ECU different fuel maps for each cylinder. My guess is that this is primarily to compensate for the different air flows due to cross cylinder interference. But we now have the capability to re-map each cylinder. I think this is key to making a two into one work well. I had a Quat-D 2 into 1 and it did not make great power above 5000 RPM. I think with individual cylinder tuning and opening up the flow abit, it could have made much better power. I am following JediOne's progress, hoping that he get more out of the QuatD.

Yah but if someone left the flock citing their reasons, if the reasons were somewhat reasonable, we would let them go, and be gentlemanly about it. Look back through the threads and whenever the poster was sincere about giving up their bike, the responses were proper and polite. But if a well respected parent traded in their pleasant, intelligent, healthy, child who they had passionately bragged about, then they would need an ungentlemanly verbal smack up-side the head! How dare you even tease us with the threat of giving away your baby like that!!! Imagine, Dear Sirs, "I think I'll get rid of my baby" I await appropriate responses. For Carlos Guzzi's sake, if your bike was a human we would have called social services on you!!!! You got off easy brother.

Go for it! And share the details! My guess is you will need mapping software, a different cam, a shoebox for the coils, higher compression pistons, and a lot of research and trial and error.

Looking forward to the ride this weekend. Weather looks a little dubious... But it would be great if we could have a good turnout. I'll bet RacerX will be there rain or shine! Jedione, Gh67, Slowpoke, Pierre(temp-bikeless?), RobbieK, DrKnow, Ratchethack, SoCalDon, WSholar, Skeeve, calimariChris, and I am sure I am missing a few, but I hope to see some of you. Of course there is always next month, and the month after, and so on....

Nah, the only Laing's in my clan that can carry a tune, carry it in iPods. How does that joke go? What is the definition of a Rock Trio? Two Musicians and a Drummer! So, I guess drummers don't have to carry tunes, just the beat. Rock On!

I could be wrong, but this is how I understand it: It won't force you down and up in right and lefts unless you are accellerating. If you are de-accellerating the force is the opposite. If the throttle is steady the bike is flickable equally to either direction, while an inline four when you flick it, it has to overcome the gyroscopic force, but once it overcomes it, it will stablize it. I guess inline four force could be perceived as standing the bike up, but that is probably it just fighting against rider input. The Guzzi only fights you when accellerating and deaccellerating...but it is barely perceptible at speed where the gyroscopic forces of the wheels are much greater. The stablizing gyroscopic effect of the engines makes the Guzzi a smoother ride for touring, especially at higher revs and speeds.

I think she is some Italian model that Guzzi hired

OKay, y'all asked for it. Here is my pile of ECU shiiit hierarchy with the cream of the crap at the top and the good shit towards the bottom. Guzzi ECU left untouched. Guzzi ECU trim tweaked by dealer using TechnoResearch VDST or MBDST $Free-$100 Guzzi ECU bodged by TFI $200 Guzzi ECU bodged by PCIII serial $Real Cheap Guzzi ECU bodged by PCIII USB $250 to $350 depending on how much of a sucker you are. Guzzi ECU improved by Axeone????not sure about this one. Also, I don't know where to put a Teo Lamers modified ECU... $?$?$? Guzzi ECU rectified by FIM ultimap flashload $179. http://www.fuelinmoto.com.au/ Guzzi ECU improved by TuneBoy $310, maybe less while in semi-beta. Guzzi ECU improved by TechnoResearch DirectLink $379 Guzzi ECU rectified by FIM ultimap diagnostics $1500 I don't know if it is better than DirectLink or TuneBoy, but it better be for that price. Cliff's MY15M Kit is about $300 Not sure what the assembled and tested price is. Awesome shit dude! If I could start all over, this is the route that I would take. And you can polish most of this crap to a medium luster with Tuning Link for a few hundred dollars or for a little more a better tuning from a four gas analysis Dyno like MotoLab, or if you really gotta have it glimmer, go with a proper $3000 GP racing mapping from a dyno with five gas analysis. Something Guzzi should have done in the factory. Or you can optimize many of these yourself. Cliff's MY15M can be modified with the optimiser for less than $250 and less than $125 in kit form. WBO2 controllers are another way to improve the mapping tools.

so, you don't remember your front sag numbers before springs and spacers. I wish I had written mine down....oh well. But I looked back throught the threads and found that you and I both ended up with the same numbers. You wrote, Your unladen target was 21mm I think if you got to your target the spring may have been too soft. And we both have a difference of 12mm, which I think is fine. But if I had a choice of going a little firmer or softer, I'd go firmer. So I think a front sag difference of 16mm would be too much, for all but touring. What do you think?
