The New Moto Guzzi Factory
motortouring replied to Joe's topic in Special place for banter and conversation
Well, all together I would really enjoy being in mandello when this new factory opens up. Specifically, when all of you will be there as well. -
The formal method is to use an axle through the support bearing in the swingarm that has a ring to centre on the outgoing axle of the gearbox. Horizontal adjustment is with the swingarm bearing bolts and vertical is by fixing the bolts of the underframe and the battery plate. In practice centering the swingarm axle bolts (on the side) is the way to go. With many thanks to JCK from NL

Hi, the battery compartmentent is indeed rather small. That said, I just put two small crodile clamps on the poles to re-charge when necessary. EDIT: + clamp being isolated

I always forget this part in the manual. The pressure plate has a dot on one of the teeth, it should be in line with the TDC mark. Then the springs fit easily. Maybe you need to wiggle with your fingers to get them in the pockets.

Something on the clutch and the splined inner unit (what is the proper terminology for this?). The older Tontis (and a 83 cali 2 is one of those) had larger splines that used to wear fast which resulted in poor function of the clutch. You might want to change this for the later fine spline model. The easiest way is to buy a kit with both clutch plates the steel plate in between and this fine splined unit. Something like this: https://www.stein-dinse.com/de/moto-guzzi-kupplungs-set-mit-sicherungsblech-neue/item-1-1078679.html But I am not sure uf the Stein Dinse quality is good, now a days. I needed a rubber hammer to get the unit on the gearbox axle a few months ago, and that should actually slide on without pressure. On the geerbox side you have a standard axle sealing, but behind this splined unit that goes on the gearbox axle there are two o-rings that will probably need to be replaced. For future good operation of the clutch you could use some very thick spline grease with MoS2. Staburag NBU 30.... is used for BMW, but I would say a similar spec works fine.

@Pressureangle I am interested in an original V11Lemans.com Roper plate with all the accesories (destination is the Netherlands). Could we get in contact about this? I have trouble sending a private message to you. Best regards, Edit: I managed to get the message out. Sorry for the pressure.

Now the million dollar question: Is this part on the path of ultimate optimisation of our beloved Mandello stallion still obtainable? If yes, could I please be on the list?

I like the oil warning lamp to be as high as possible. The lights on the early V11Sports are not bright at all, so in case of a oil warning, you could easily miss it. These lights are only on for a short while so I do not fear the overheating of the fileament. (Except for high beam) Edit: So 2,2 watts would not be a problem. By the way, you can order those light per 10 for a much better price.

Denying and not knowing are two different things. Did you know that most black frame riders also think the world is flat 🙈🙈🤪🤪🤪🥳🥳🥳🤣 Edit: I might need to delete this message as it is against forum rules. But please don't take me more serious than I take myself.

In tight corners I like to push the bike a bit down and sit more straight up. In longer corners I have more stabillity when leaning more into the corner have the bike a bit more straight. The clipons support the last and the handlebars support the earlier better for me.
-
The height of the handlebars is somewhat subjective. I have a V11 with handlebars and one with clipons. And a friend has the greenie with Magni fairing with clipons further down. In slow sharp corners and tight 3/4 roundabouts the higher handlebars are giving a feeling of control. When leaning heavily on the clipons it limits a bit the light and accurate counter steering. But as said: subjective And depends on the type of corners. On a twisty road my V11 with original clipons is good. For faster riding and longer turns the greenie with Magni is a joy to ride.

They have a bit for compensating the distance for the brake line. https://voigt-mt.de/3-cm-Verlaengerung-fuer-Bremsleitung-oder-Kupplungsleitung-universal But for a little more you have a new brake line. Also nice after 20 years :-)

I would be happy to add the theme "V11 Spine Raid" to the international rally of the dutch guzzi club. You can benefit of the music and other things we already have and we will add a trophy for the best Spine, frame of the Rally. Next year is also 105years Moto Guzzi, so we poke them up in June to go to Mandello in September as well.

That' s the spirit.I rode back from Berlin to Utrecht allong the coast of the Eastsea Danish border and Northsea coast. All together 1600km in an afternoon and the next day (08:00-24:00 and a bit). ...with a Cali 2. It would have been 4 days on the V11 Sport 😅

Not to far from Rotterdam, on the bank of the river Lek (that reaches the Northsea in Rotterdam), in the little town of Tienhoven we have an International Guzzi Rally the 3rd weekend of June. I help organizing it and all of you are most welcome. Registration is not required, always enough space to pitch your tent. Relaxed atmosphere, Friday BBQ, live music on Friday and Saturday night. Small band to help us through the Saturday afternoon. Food en drinks availble. Small ride out on Saturday, booth sale/used parts an all. We always lack a good portion of spine frames.

Give me one good reason why I should (or shouldn't) buy a V11 Le Mans?

So true! -

This V11 Le Mans is a beautiful birthday present for your wife. It is a very matury ellegant ballerina with an astonishing first impression, it ages like a flower in her prime. All of it resembles your beautiful wife. How else could you honor her. -
Aha, I found the aftermarket rear set topic. I just bought a rear set from Probrake. Only 25mm lower, but it really feels quite a bit more relaxed. https://www.probrake.de/fussrasten-street-moto-guzzi-v11-sport-99-03-ks-kr

Do we have an aftermarket footrest topic on this forum? I recall quite some posts on this, but fail to find it.

Need help finding a part on the engine cover
motortouring replied to Jaide's topic in Technical Topics
It is a pitty you ordered them already. Calling JRE Robers in Hengelo would give you advise on what to buy including the quality of the SD versions. He might have some singles as well. And when you would need a new part for the fairing, check the MGCN.NL forum. Some guys over there sit on enormous piles of NOS. -
Now this is something I like to share with you. Some pages ago, I mentioned Iris Dement in a reaction and clearly did not know John Prine. Shame on me but even more a pity. When knowing the name, I all of a sudden saw it popping up everywhere. What a great guy he must have been, great texts, a true poet, mocking himself and enjoying every bit of it. And so much welcome by his fellow musicians. I really like to thank you guys on the forum to point my attention to John Prine.

On the valve clearance,: Yes, it is a little thing to do in the morning with the cold engine and I only do this after I get annoyed by irregular ticking of the pushrods, it is definitely not a daily routine. And the other part: I used to organize trips for the Guzzi Club overhere and it is not that I had all of this in my bags, but we usually had this as a group. The ignition coil helped people back on the road again, just like a spare fuel pump that some one saved from an old Subaru (it worked fine on a EV or Cali 1100ie) and inner tubes and tyre spoons. . It is actually a kind of anekdote. One of us started to run on one cylinder. We removed the side panel of this Tonti Guzzi and one ignition coil was much warmer than the other. Well, you can imagine the guy thought this would be the end of the trip for him, but down in my bag I had this spare ignition coil. Ten minutes later we were going again.

10 and 13 wrench and allen keys 5 and 6 are definitely necessary in the toolbox. I also like to have a filler gauge for setting the valve clearence right (although this is remarkable stable at the V11 Sport). And then you need a 11mm wrench and a something to hold the adjustment screw. And for my friends I bring an additional emergency starter battery, a spare ignition coil, tyre repair kit an extra 18" inner tube, inner cables and mounting sockets, some extra poles for their tents, inflatable mattress repair kit and a canister to swap petrol from one tank to the other. Yeah, we always make it home. :-)
