  1. Ok, *if* it is an AN type fitting, the male part coming out of the sump will look like the piece on the left. You can see the flare on the tubing inside the nut. Normally, a failure is a crack in that formed flair. The good thing is.. it's not suddenly going to fail and dump all your oil on the rear tire. The bad thing is you have to take the fitting apart to inspect it, thereby losing all your oil.. 2018-10-30_03-33-13 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr
  2. Nope, the flare is formed to fit the male fitting Swooshdave posted. The nut holds the flare against the fitting. The crack will be on the flare.. All this is *assuming* it's an AN fitting, which it appears to be. I'll post up a picture if it will clarify how it goes together..
  3. *assuming* they are AN fittings.. there is probably a crack in the flare. That is the common failure.

  5. That's pretty much it. more than likely a crack.
  6. We are dealing with my crotchety memory here, but it "seems" like it was an AN fitting when I had the pan off last. If so, "She's dead, Jim.."
  7. Probably a warranty issue..

  13. The Kid says the 1100 Spot is the perfect credit card motorcycle. Travel fast, travel light. Nothing's better.. Says he has a love/hate relationship with it. Loves loves loves it when out on the road, hates it when in the city/parking/slow speed stuff. At any rate, his Grease O sits..
  14. Well, there is that..
  15. You'll like em.. they were my favorites until I discovered Contis.
  16. Boy, I hate missing this one, Kevin.. but Dorcia's kid is remodeling. He said he could through a tarp over the porch floor and we could stay underneath, but we decided the accommodations might be a little spartan.
  17. I mistyped.. the Kid has Road Attacks on his Spot. He said he'll replace them this Winter with the same thing.
  18. I read not to do that back in the Pleistocene.. so I never have. So far, so good.
  19. Au contrair mon ami.. the Mighty Scura was out in SoCal for years without a tuneup and ran "fine." When I brought it home, I checked the TPS, and it was some crazy number like 340. (!) It runs beautifully, now.. the little hesitation it used to have at about 2400 at very light throttle is gone. When checking it when trouble shooting during "the incident" at the Spine Raid, it was 145. Still runs fine, haven't made time to reset it.
  20. Shirley it's more than a toenail to be wrapped up like that..
  21. It can definitely cause poor or no running at a specific RPM.. so yes.
  22. Yeah, it's kind of a religious experience..
