  1. I remember reading something about it back in the day. Thanks! 2017-10-16_02-39-32 by Charles Stottlemyer, on Flickr
  2. To make a long story short.. when you said I found when the Mighty Scura was set -40 from where it should be, not only was it doing a lot of lean stumbling at small throttle openings, I was getting 50+ mpg. (!) Normally, it gets high 30s.
  3. Scud.. the book say the arrow A on top of the piston points to the exhaust. Are the springs on the rocker arms in good shape? Ace Mallot sez the rocker arms can clack back and forth. McMaster Carr sells a radial bearing that can replace the spring and keep that from happening. Looks like the clutch throwout bearing, but I don't have a part number. Naturally, you are going to have to look at the rings, so it doesn't matter which way you pull the cylinders. I personally leave the piston in the bore.
  4. Yo.. Scud.. save one for me.
  5. Rope, hanging the laundry variety, 1/4 inch or so diameter..
  6. Carb springs work really well.
  7. I'd keep that greenie, too..
  8. I'm a fan of HH pads, too. I modified the (now) Mighty MZs calipers to use them.
  9. She's a looker all right. The kind of girl that could make you lose your happy home.
  10. Those brackets would be cheap to make. No form die to make, no fussy dimensions.
  11. "They appear to lightly be touching the piston, which obviously isn't good, but since they don't seem to be hitting that hard, I'm hopeful that they will be in good condition (I can still turn it over by hand, so they valves aren't stopping the pistons). " when I was building the Aero engine, Ilooked up a lot of this kind of stuff. Of course.. I've promptly forgotten, but .030" clearance rings a bell. At any rate, look it up to be sure.
  12. I saw Scud's Greenie at the Sandy Eggo rally this weekend. It looks really good in pictures.. but fabulous in the flesh. It's obviously had hands on..
  13. (scratching head)I wonder how they carved 75 ! pounds off of it.
  14. Uhh,why are you doing that?
  15. It's Italian. When looking in the inspection hole, D is Dis side.S is Snot dis side. I'll get me hat..
  16. I can type as fast as I talk, but I'm pecking on a tablet with one finger. To be absolutely clear, the left cylinder is assuming that you are sitting on the bike. .facing forward.
  17. When I was getting the Aero Engine primed,it took 30 seconds..which seemed like 30 minutes.
  18. I'll bet its 180 degrees out. The damage may have already been done, but bring th left cylinder to TDC on the firing stroke. To do this, turn the engine clockwise looking from the front, and watch the intake valve. When it opens, then closes, the engine is on the firing stroke.Adjust that set of valves at TDC. You will see the S in the inspection hole at TDC. Got that? Ok.Rotate clockwise 270 degrees. You should see the D in the inspection hole. Yes? Adjust that set of valves and report back.
  19. Eish. Dealer for years.Cant give you her number until I get back from Socal.
  20. The person that takes over keeping one of Scud's machines will be lucky indeed.(I'd do a thumbs up, but I'm pecking on a tablet that doesn't support that)
  21. I think it was Footgoose that said he couldn't bond with it.
  22. Ok, Ill admit it. I'm old and weak.. but I can't *imagine* taking one of the "adventure bike" things off road. Unwieldy? Uhh that's putting it mildly. If your adventure is putting down to the local Starbux for a Latte..maybe.
