  1. I got a couple for the Guzzi and the Capo. They work great, I like the flashing feature. Unfortunately, I forgot that the Capo uses 2 in the tail light, so running one old LED and this new one, side by side. Easy to compare them...... The newer WAY better. Good find.
  2. Took her for a long ride up in the mountains above LA, when I got back to my garage, I put her on the Becker stand for all new fluids... Drained the bevel drive, and topped it off with some Motul 31721L 80W-90 Moly Drained the gearbox and refilled her with Redline Heavy Shockproof, as it has worked so well....so far. Drained the engine oil, didn't do the filter, as I did it last time. On reinserting the drain plug, it sure did seem st spin a lot when I was threading it back in by hand.......huh? The drain plug threads are totally stripped. How did that happen? F********K. Ordered Time Sert kit (after checking that my drain bolt was M10x1.5 at the local hardware store). A great day!
  3. AF1 Racing carries key blanks: http://www.af1racing.com/store/Scripts/prodView.asp?idProduct=47350 Turns out my 2002 Aprilia Caponord uses the exact same blank as my 2001 V11 Sport.
  4. When I lost instrument lights, the brake light went with it. When I changed the bulb in the tach, somehow the socket worked itself loose in the next several miles, giving me the dreaded bouncing tach that necessitated dismantling the tach and repairing and securing the socket. So in typical Italian fashion, fixing the tach light fixed the brake light.
  5. Lightly used Hyperpro 460, fits all variants of the V11 Sport and Lemans. Emulsion shock with adjustable rebound damping and threaded pre-load. It comes with the wrench to adjust pre-load and a rebuild certificate that is transferrable. Approximately 2K miles. $300.00 OBO + shipping. Nothing wrong with it, just upgraded to something different. jessebenson(at)mac(dot)com

  7. I got this one from Omars Dirt Track racing:
  8. Near San Francisco. If you haven't heard the Jota 120 engine at full howl you don't know what you're missing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/252828798784?rmvSB=true

    Brand-new Scura

You went right past my horse property at 60th and Van Buren. That makes a grand total of 2 Moto Guzzis to ever travel those roads...... I need to try Box Canyon to Pinto Basin.....

    Brand-new Scura

As much as I enjoy the work, it's all about the riding. Yesterday was just magic. One of those perfect days between rains. The snow is down to about 6,000 feet and the mountain views were stunning. I had breakfast within view of 11,000 foot San Jacinto - all the puddles in the parking lot were still frozen solid and that cup of coffee was for my fingers. 20 miles later I was in Palm Desert, where people were walking their toy-dogs while wearing shorts and sandals. I made my "pilgrimage" to Mecca (the actual name of a town at 200 feet below sea level) so I could ride Box Canyon on the way to... The Joshua Tree. Breakdown the route for us, if you could...........

    Zinc chromate

That's a nice detail. Looks like it might be some sort of warp drive.
  13. I am considering converting to bars, has the page been found by any chance?
  14. I am 6'1" and installing Knight Design 1" lowering footpegs helped my knees and hips considerably. Worth trying. http://www.knightdesignllc.com
  15. It's probably something simple: battery, fuses, ground. Do what the others have said. I have the original silver side panels from my 01 Sport. When I got the bike it was wearing dark grey LeMans side panels which I like better. PM me an email and I can send you pics.
  16. Mine did this forever. Turned out to be the basic tune was off. Start from the beginning and tune it again. Check all sensors and make sure that the connectors are clean and tight. However, does the idle slowly drop when warming up, most of the time? That is probably the valves that need adjusting. Sometimes, when coming to a stop after a hard run, mine will struggle to idle for a minute, then smooth out. I suspect the weight of my hand on the throttle is holding it open just slightly enough to confuse the ECU. Now, if this happens, I need to blip the throttle a couple of times and it sorts itself out. When coming to a stop, I try to make sure the throttle is really closed. Faulty coils acting up when hot have something to do with temperature and resistance. Not sure. Sounds right, though.

Yeah, I tried to remove the throttles from the rail, they seems permanently fused together even after removing all bolts. There is probably some hidden key slathered in Loctite. I stopped myself from breaking something and buttoned everything back up. I didn't really need to take everything apart, I just like to think I am being "thorough". I consider this (learned) restraint my most valuable skill in tinkering with Italian motorcycles....
  18. Ooooh, I like that valve adjusting tool. Let us know how it works.....
  19. Since I've had the Guzzi, I use Bell Ethanol Defense religiously, and have had zero issues with tank swelling or paint flaking, even with the crap gas we have here in CA. It even helps with the sugary crud build-up in the throttles. Tip: get the little squeeze dispenser that is available, makes it much easier to measure it out.

    Custom seats

No photos, but when I re-did my Sport's seat, I flattened the pan, eliminating the sharp edges of the molding intended to accommodate the battery. I also lowered the battery a bit. Now the stock-looking seat is super comfortable even on very long rides, and I sit slightly lower as well, more "into" the bike.
  21. A Harley-type powered Morgan in last years DGR, that's me in the yellow helmet behind him....
  22. What Docc said: start with basic tune. Then check the plug caps. After that, also check the head temp sensor on the right side, see if cracked, or disconnected, etc. Not sure if your bike has a Lambda in the crossover, if so, check to see if the wire is still connected. If all of the above is A-OK, try a bottle of fuel injection system cleaner, (there are a few types), followed by "Italian tune-up".

Looks super nice. Maybe you have found a new career.....all that's missing is the red suspenders.....
