  1. Thanks. The front end is a Unit. It is the first they made for a Jackal after some measurements travelling back and forth across the Atlantic. I built it for a trip on all of route 66 that I could research. I *knew* there was no way we could be out for 3-4 weeks with all of Dorcia's (ahem) stuff on two wheels. After that, it became our long distance rally rig for a couple of years. I bought the Jack-All tractor at a wrecking yard with 600 miles on it. The car came from Pittsburg, and had been rear ended, but had nice stuff on it like a brake, and *electric lean* so the rig could be trimmed out to run straight on different cambered roads and cross winds. It was a successful rig, but while I can operate one, I'm just not a sidecarist. I'll look and see if I can find a picture of the car. Edit: Ahh here's one with the top up so m'lady would be more comfortable in inclimate weather.

  4. Side note: careful leaving the tank off the bike - it can relax and then sometimes it doesn’t want to go back on!

  5. Brother's high school friend had a Benelli 250. For a project, bro had fabbed up a copy of the Ducati "Corse" open megaphone in high school shop class. It really woke that Benelli (and our neighbors) up! Ah, but my brother's other friend went crazy and bought a 1965 Ducati Diana MK III. Now, with 5 speeds and 10K on tap, that was some ride for a goofy kid in the 60s. The most difficult mechanical project I ever helped with was getting all of those bevel gear timing marks lined up. They call those the 'ice cream cone' singles, but the cam drive was more like a Rubik's cube.

  6. Oh, dear! I LOVE Italian singles! I even googled it the other day, but seems that doesn’t necessarily mean motorcycles on the web!

  7. I'll be interested to see the price quote - but a 36 week lead time doesn't seem like a good idea. The place I used before gave me a price quote that I can afford. No response yet from my potential second source. I have not heard of a single problem with the new springs, so I think a re-order from the same place will probably be OK.
