What did you do to your V11 today?

Mmmm . I put a new o-ring along w/black silicone sealant on it last week thinking it was the problem . Check on it Sat. and it was still weeping . Gonna check on another one & replace .  Gonna massage on the front fuel tank pucks to fix fuel tank expansion .

BTW , the Permatex stuff is good . I have 5 containers all over the shop . P.S. don't use it to seal pipe threads on water lines UNLESS it sets up for 24 hours . I KNOW .

Yep thats it the shock full travel bumper. Horrible to replace. The spring needs to come off the shock and the eye end removed. I've had to get this done before, quite tricky.

Ciao

Thank you Gentlemen.

I'll go out to the shop in the AM to see where on the shock this thing goes....it's not jumping out at me looking at the online PL drawing

Silicone isn't fuel resistant.

It's a round ring like a donut that fits on the shock shaft so when the shock approaches full travel the eye end doesn't contact the shock body cap. You wont be able to buy one for a Sachs shock so you'll need to go to a suspension specialist and see if an Ohlins or another brand will work that can be purchased as a spare part.

Unless you are getting air at Cadwell Park or built like Rick Sieman  , leave it alone . It will serve no purpose .

BTW it is on the shock rod and is a job to get to .

I wouldn't agree with that statement personally.

In my experience, most people don’t optimize the suspension on their bikes. Given the fact that these V11’s have a heavy rear drive set up and only controlled by the single shock... getting the spring rate dialed in is important.

Being able to utilize the full available travel in conjunction with fine tuning the damping/rebound, you may very well in certain circumstances, compress the spring to the bumper/stop/thingy/dodad

If it was me, I’d have the shock removed and rebuilt along with a new bumper...

Thank you Gentlemen.

Some chunks were also retained within the spring and remnants were also still in the "installed" location.

In the meantime, I hope the wife isn't planning on an elaborate dinner anytime soon....

I was getting ready to flush the clutch fluid and as I finished putting the bike up on the OEM stand I found this..thing...under the bike on the ground. I don't recognize it....don't "think" it was on the ground before I moved the bike into position...and can't find anything amiss on the bike..so is this just FOD or part of the machine's life blood?

(Crap...I better check the Ducati since I was working on it where the V11 is now....)

I spy an Öhlins reservoir? Not a Sachs rear shock, then?

Rerouted the fuel filler vent hose ...no problem at all.  Replacing the headlight bulb...well that was another story.  Taking off the fairing was a breeze.  R&R on the bulb was easy.  Hit the key and no headlight high beam or low beam :-0.   Check date fuse and it was fine.  Looked to see what else was on that loop and nothing....no high beam indicator on the dash, no horn, no brake light....ugh.  I hate vehicle electrical, so this is going to suck.   Went to do the fluids and another UGH.  How do I get the oil filter cover off?!?!  I have a ton of metric stuff from wrenching on Porsche 944/924 over the years but nothing to fit that.  Frustration is really starting to set in now.  Came in from the shop, cleaned myself up, and did some poking around.  Found out the MG "official" part for this and WOW do they think a lot of this part.  Started the search for a proper substitute and then remember the "How to" section here.  Discovered the old thread of "V11 Sport - Oil Filter Change" and found out that the tool kit should have the proper tool.  Back to the shop and to what I think is the complete tool kit and YES it was there!  It fit, put a wrench on the other end and YIPPIE it loosened up.  Looks like tomorrow will now be fluid change day.  I'll get back to the electrical issue at some point (did I mention I hate working on vehicle electrical issues!).
