guzzler
Just my tuppence worth. I also had that bloody annoying stumble! Mine was between 3 and 4 k and yep on a whiff o throttle. It used to piss me off rolling through a town at 60k's in third ( 3 thou ). The thing that cured it was when I had the useless standard tensioner replaced with the Stucchi unit. I was with the mechanic when it was done and can verify that it's CRAP!! That was about 30 thousand k's or probably more ago and no stumbles. We found the issue because my timing gasket failed and noticed how little tension the original had on the chain! Cheers Guzzler
al_roethlisberger
Holy cow, if THIS the main cause of the 3-4000 RPM stumble that many have chased for 15 years, that would be amazing.... seriously Honestly, that stumble is the only real thing that drove me crazy about these bikes, the rest was just "character". And it did drive me crazy. So it sounds like one can spend about $600 on gears or about $30 for an improved tensioner: http://www.mgcycle.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=347 (Is this the Stucchi one?) https://www.stein-dinse.biz/product_info.php?products_id=770 https://lgccompany.it/en/home-page/9254-tendicatena.html The tensioner is certainly more economical, but the gears would be very cool

Sorry. 2

Lucky Phil
Just some feedback on the timing gears. Rode into the city yesterday for lunch with my wife which entailed about 60klms of freeway riding at 100 klm/h in 26 degC heat at around 2900-30000 rpm indicated. It still coughs and stumbles at around 3000 rpm occasionally. So the gears aren't the answer to that it seems. looks like mapping. Ciao
sp838
Does the engine need to be removed in order to install these gears, or can they be put in with it still in the frame?

fotoguzzi
I thought the cure for the cough was to bin the stock crossover and put on a Mistral.. that's what I did and thought it was fixed.. sadly I no longer own it.
